Its been suggested that (at least in Ireland, there wont be too many L&K models sold in 2014.)

I was told by the dealer that about 20%(max) of Superbs sold will be the 170 model and most of them will be elegance.  My dealer still hasn't sold any L&Ks apart from mine. I've only seen one other FL L&K in the flesh and coincidentally that L&K happens to belong to 'Kilkenny' another member on this forum!.  There are obviously a few around but they will never sell in any numbers.  Bottom line is the 1.6GL in Ambition (equiv to SE in the UK) and Elegance is the main seller in Ireland by far!

Some of it is down to the price point - €37K or nearly €40K DSG and that's before extras.  You're talking €45K+ for a fully loaded combi DSG.  €40K for a Skoda doesn't sit well for most and depreciation is a worry as well on a high price 'budget' brand (even though residuals are actually good). They are thinking €45K for a base Beemer or Audi - wait a few months and pick up a demo or used low mileage example for a grand or two more than an L&K.  There are lots of nearly new A6s and 520Ds knocking around (you know all those  'D' reg models that seem to appear on forecourts with 4/5K kms).  There is still a lot of badge snobbery around especially in Ireland, recession or not!

There is also a misconception that the L&K is only available in brown leather and the old model didn't help there.  Every dealer in Ireland got one L&K (when they were special order in pre FL) and they were mostly black with brown interior. This turned some people off and I know some that are convinced that ivory still isn't an option and they won't consider an L&K.

As a company car, again its the Greenlines that are appearing everywhere and its obvious why especially in Ireland.  The lease costs on higher end Superbs can in some cases be similar to the premium brands so again this will have an impact on the amount we see on the roads.  I'd imagine all these factors are applicable to a certain extent in the UK as well.

bought mine with a spare wheel but thats all, apart from metallic paint of course.

Welcome, only option I ordered was hill hold. UK spec is very good, ivory trim, brown dash, black carpets looks really good. Went for the 170 for the extra punch it gives.

Get a spare wheel

Ah, yes also spare wheel !

yeah

so I specced one up here to see. not much in it between a fully specced elegance with kessy and the pan roof vs a l&k with pan roof. both specced with 170 dsg 4x4, came out at 49.8 and 50.1k respectively

Ouch...big numbers there!

but surely if you buy one privately you wont pay that? I saved £7k off the price of mine last month and it would have been rude not to buy the L&K at that price!

hey so was that a new car or a deal with the dealer?

but the market here is much smaller than the UK, and choice is somewhat restricted (they dont even offer the 3.6 V6 because of the import duties), and it gets worse with bigger engines - a new RS6 avant in the UK is 80k STG, last time I talked to audi here, I was told it would be ca. 250k euro to land one because of the tax (an r8 V10 would be similarly priced)

mmmm R8 V10, saw one recently.................................but northern reg :envy:

mine was a new factory order - not stock. Delivered in a few weeks.

yeah

there is currently one up at a local dealer for 45k (l&k combi, pan roof, electric tailgate, but no 4x4), but that yech brown colour that skoda are fascinated with

Is that the brown interior or exterior you're referring to?  Magnetic brown with ivory interior works fine (well I would say that!) as its light on dark but brown leather seats nooo!....no matter what exterior colour and I know several people that are put right off when they see it.   I think I know the combi you're talking about (in Spirit?) as I saw it advertised in a few places. I think that's been there a while too.

yeah - thats the one. I drove it (its a lovely lovely car (on the inside)) but i cant get past the colour on the outside. if it was a nice grey or black I'd have it in a shot

That's the problem here. As you mention above its a small market. There might be one or two dealers in Dublin and maybe Cork that would have an L&K in stock but that's probably it. the chances of getting the colours you want is slim. Paying that kind of money you want to get exactly what you like. IIRC the pre FL L&K models that the dealers had around 2013/early 13 took a while to shift well certainly on some dealers . I think most of them were black with brown leather!

I see they are asking 44235 , have they dropped a little? They seem to have it for a few months.

yeah and its a 141 plate so will be a bit cheaper too i guess in a few days

Is it not possible for you boys to buy in the uk and import into Eire? I recall many years ago a pal of mine going to Dublin to buy a car and importing into UK because it was cheaper. Not sure the Euro has helped you guys but let us not make make this a political issue.

yeah

so sometimes is the answer. basically, the tax that catches us here is called VRT. they basically take what they call the Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) for the car (not what you paid for it, but what they think you should have paid for it wherever you bought it), then deduct that from what they think the car would cost on the open market market here, and charge you that amount/delta to register it.

it can work with if you get a good deal or a particularly nice car, but its also somewhat variable.

if you export from ireland to the UK (or elsewhere), you get some portion of the VRT back, which in effect has meant that a huge amount of high end stuff has left the country over the last year since that particular refund ruling came into play. I know several high end RS motors that have ended up in NZ/AUS because of the vrt refund :(

I wasn't sure if it was registered or not. With the 142 plates next week there is definitely some sort of deal to be had there

I agree the UK imports is a bit hit and miss. A few that I know who have recently imported have been very unlucky - clocked cars, sub-standard parts used prior to export etc. there may be issues around warranties on newish cars as well. Might be only option if going for a V6 Superb though or the RS6 :)

ok: my L&K combi (I am told) is arriving this weekend to Dublin, (off the boat)

think the L&K speck here in Ireland is rare enough ! I haven't seen one yet.

(and yes its my first skoda and no, I haven't seen or driven a demo version L&K)

I only test drove a standard saloon 1,6. liked it and took the plunge and a leap of faith.

hopefully , I will see it next week.

(I got metallic brown with dark interior with brown leather) hope its ok

it has nearly all the options: except went for manual and did not go 4x4.

I've never did a test drive before I bought any of my last Skodas. Just trusted that they were going to be good :)

Well lads that is some statement of your faith in a product at £30000 a pop :0)
