Picked up my M135i today- gentlemen get your Kleenex ready for some car porn...

It's not a true M car. It's an "M-performance" vehicle. So slots in below a full fat M-car and above the M-sport trim spec. Kind of a sub-M motor. Cracking value tho compared to a full M-car. The sub-M part is the reason a lot of owners refer to the car affectionately as an "M-lite".... :-)

He knows this, but pretends not to Tom. We have said this and referred to the car as M lite repeatedly. I am wearying of him though, as I feel he is a Chiropodist arguing with a Surgeon

No popcorn, mini eggs :)

now you are talking :)

In my last BMW I found Easter Eggs, well sort of, with lots of button pressing and fiddling about, clever stuff would sometimes happen.  it was probably stuff that was covered by the instruction manual, but I missed, but it was a nice surprise to discover that if you hold a radio memory button, it turns into the current destination on your sat nav button. so you could press button 1 for radio 5 and button 2 to navigate home. I love hidden things like that. The new Jeep Renegade has dozens of them apparently, although they are more to do with pictures and references of jeeps hidden in everyday shapes.

Or that the M-perf exhaust isn't yet fitted.....

Whoo hoo. Hope you neighbours enjoy the sound as much as you will :D It will be interesting to see if the LCi version sounds any different to the pre version? There is talk of the tips being fractionally bigger, but that might just be cosmetic rather than true diameter?

Yeah I've heard the LCI tips might be bigger. I'd have thought the actual exhaust itself is the same though. Apparently the MPE is unchanged for the LCI launch and fits both cars.

I was surprised how loud the standard exhaust was, at least when the BMW Genius fired one up in the showroom to let me hear it :D I keep reading that the mp exhaust doesn't drone on the motorway, so if that's true, its everything to every man/woman :)

Thanks...................someone who can explain what I am trying to understand ............... ;) ...............

I'll explain why I thought the M135i was a true "M" car...................

I know that you can tick "M" sport alloys, suspension, body kits etc. from the factory & add to a poverty spec 116 (say for example).................one of my mates as a 330d twin turbo with "M" suspension & alloys.................

I know that the "M" versions have their own engine, not found on other models in that series, so in the case of the M135i, it has it's own engine, not found on any other 1 series car.......which is why I thought it was a true "M".

There was a precedent set for this in the shape of the old M Coupe (E36/8) (1998-2002 ish I think), which had a straight six, & was a small "hatch" (breadvan style)

which I really liked..................truth be told............... B)

To all on this thread:- I was being sincere in my last post as trying to offer a peace truce on this, but obviously some people can't see the wood for the trees............ :S

So why has Usability Rating gone from 5 star to 3 star? Relating to Car Mag current review of 2015 model.

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/bmw/bmw-m135i-2015-review/

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/bmw/bmw-m135i-2012-review/

Improvement via the facelift?

Car was 5 star now 4star. So is that less car for the buck?

Or is CAR MAG just inconsistent with their reviews.

I think it's probably inconsistency but also an element of "new thing being flavour of the moment" then when it's been around awhile they knock the odd star off and give more praise to other stuff. Doesn't mean the car has got any worse lol, just journo behaviour.

In the 2015 article they also refer to the M135i as having two turbos. C'mon CAR mag, get with it!

In preparation for changing the exhaust over this week I went out this morning to capture a quick vid of the standard system on a cold start. Demonstrates the cars inbuilt valve system switching between single and dual exit quite well.

Apologies for the cheapo plate blanking lol! As it was quite early I had to be very gentle with the revs to avoid annoying the neighbours too much hehe.

Will try to do a similar clip abit later after a run with the exhaust up to temp.

More clips to follow once the M-perf exhaust arrives!

I suggest it's better to ignore each other from now on, and agree to disagree

Keep it totally on topic, and let Tom's thread continue

Thanks for your cooperation

Regards

Damo

Ignore! I'd forgotten about that function. Now in place, so there will be no further altercations possible :)

This is a great example of the valve switching. I have only ever seen one other video on You Tube that shows this and it stops just after the point were the valve opens. This should become very, very popular over time (once word gets round). I gather that if you pull the live cable off the switch when it is in the open position, it stays open permanently. Your neighbours can then enjoy your exhaust all the time :)
