Yep, all reports are that the next gen 1er will be FWD :-(. I also doubt there will be any 6-cyl powerplant in it either.

I don't think you will regret it if you get one! I suspect discounts will dip as demand rises with the facelift (currently possible to get over £6k off) but deals will still be around.

I've not taken mine in the motorway yet but people on the forums suggest if you are gentle you can see around 40mpg on a cruise. I've hit high 30s on a regular basis driving to work on mainly A-roads but currently averaging around 27mpg which is pretty decent given it's not run-in fully yet and the performance available. I suspect when it loosens up abit more I will be getting around 29-30mpg oer tank. :-)

Tom,

Not sure if I've read any update stats from you lately.

What is your current mileage, fuel consumption average.

What is the tyre wear rate like and what rubber are you running ?

Thanks, as a general interest of day to day running.

Hope the new exhaust change goes well.

Enjoy!

hope you don't mind me posting all this guff in our thread Tom, but I got my car back from the detailers and the result is superb. Super shiny and ultra reflective. The coating has teeny flecks of gr

It belongs to my brother :-)

He has a unit on an industrial estate for use as a store and base for his plumbing business. He's really into tinkering with and modding cars though so installed a proper car lift there to fulfil all his spannering urges. He qualified as a motor mechanic before retraining as a plumber so is quite a handy chap to know! ;-)

Hi Keith,

Currently on 7300 miles. Average economy is roughly 26-27mpg at the moment over a tank but that includes a lot of short start-stop work around town on mini-journeys for work. The car has only ever seen a motorway once haha! Can mange 42-45mpg on long dual-carriageway trips.

Tyre Wear has been very good indeed. Abit heavier on the front shoulders but this is quite common on the M-lite. The rears are doing really well considering the power. Looking at them today I'd estimate they will be good for at least 12k, maybe more like 15k.

Running Michellin Pilot Super Sport rubber. :-)

I'm amazed by the motorway mileage figures I see on BabyBMW. Eco pro and a bit of considered driving turns a high performance hatch into a diesel rivalling fuel sipper :) win win.

The rears on my Merc had a decent wear rate and when you consider the immense amount of tourque going thorugh them it was seriously impressive. The Merc does have fairly good front/rear balance, not as good as a BMW mind, which might help a little, I know my heavy right foot (delicate though it is) didn't help the tyre wear :D

Looking forward to hearing the new exhaust Tom!

Seeing more and more of these around.... I like this very much as finding a good used one for a decent price should be easier! Haha! So much want!

You know it's only a matter of time lol. Looking forward to welcoming you into the club! ;-)

They'll be building FWD before I get mine :D

Just had a quick flick through on this to get up to date, was quickly reminded why i got bored of coming on here and havent done for a few month, but its all back on track now eh (:

Did i miss yours Lady Elanore? I read a post sayin it was due 1st April but didnt see any that it has arrived? I did skim some stuff really quick though for obv reasons.

Yours looks brill as always Tom. looking forward to the other vid after the works done (:

Ps. Does the m135 use run flats? I wasnt aware you could get run flats in winter tyres? But then i hadnt looked either haha.

Mine was brought forward with build, to the 18th March, but one of the ferrys they use broke, so they developed a backlog at the docks over there. Anyhoo it went to sea a week ago and nobody seems to know where it is now :D Small chance I'll get it next Tuesday, after that it will be early mid may before I can collect it, due to work commitments. :(

The M135 comes as standard on Michelin PSS, but you can spec run-flats as a no-cost option if you like. Almost nobody goes for the run-flats though :D Instead of buying winter run-flats you can go out and buy a Suzuki Vitara All Grip ;)

The ride is a lot better in the mkIi than it was in the MkI. I bought a MkI SE rather than an M-Sport several years ago, as the runflats coupled with the rock hard suspension made the car to jittery imho, so the slightly softer suspension (I spec'd similar wheels and tyres to the M Sport) made the car handle better cross county I felt :) I went for the adaptive dampers just to be sure on my M135 :D

I bet it confuses the hell out of people...... :D ....

.."WTF is two post lift doing in a plumbing workshop?".............

Out of interest to BMW fit "lift pads" as per an Audi TT, or is it just like everyone else- use the sill points...........I know my mate who has the M135i mentioned "problems" finding a suitable point when swapping over onto his winters, mind you it could have been he needed a low jack.

To make matters worse he really is pee'd off with it now........... :D ..............his dad's just got the 5dr manual version M135i (mate has 3dr auto)...............way more practical........& the rear seats are defo more usable, even I can get in better (obviously). & he loves the manual gearbox............ I think he's going to swap it, unfortunately the Golf R estate is DSG only, so that's a no go, but he's moving to out in the country so be might need a 4x4........mind you I did suggest the Quaife, as he finds even with winter tyres on he has slippage......could just be heavy foot syndrome....... :x

I did remind him, If he does swap it for a FL of course you get the more powerfull engine, as his is an early one.........I think he went out & kicked it.............

Hey Tom, might have a Tuesday window ;):) :) :) Shame I'm working 06:30-01:00hrs the day before :( and starting work on Wednesday at 07:00-23:00, oh and then going off to work solid for 3 weeks and 12-16 hours a day :( I'll never get a chance to drive the thing :D How will I get to run it in? Still I should get great economy for the first 1,200 miles at least :D

Thanks Tom,

What's the latest on the new exhaust installation?

Annoyed the neighbours yet mate?

C'mon Tom, the sun is shining :)

Btw I just read in the Top Gear New Plates mag, the M135 got the Editors pick above it's VAG,  Merc , Ford etc, rivals. Was a bit surprised as they pointed out it wasn't as roomy as the alternatives and the A45 is crazy quick. The Renault understandably was also a winner, but I don't know if I could live with something that hardcore as my daily high mileage driver (not enough hair on my chest :p ).

I've been given a rubbish reg  :D

Who cares what the reg is! You won't see it, and if you're driving it as it should...neither will anyone else!

:D 1,200 miles of careful running first though. But I am a little nervous. When I got my new A4 several years ago, someone reversed into me when the car was a week old (I was sat in the car blasting my horn at him to stop too), then when I go my Merc, a man in a van clipped me and sped off when the car was 23 hours old! So this time I might just tell the salesman to kick the ruddy doors in and get it over with before I collect the car.

Ahh no! My Dad suffers from the same new car bad luck!

Days old Golf GTI = Young girl in a Corsa went through red and smashed into the side of him.

Days old Jaguar XF = Old boy driving a Fabia cut him up on a roundabout wiping his front end off!

haha! Well i'm sure they'd be happy to!

A guy I used to work with collected his new car (Citroen AX - it was a loong time ago), drove it off the forecourt to the petrol station across the road to fill up before heading home and was promptly reversed into by a lorry whilst parked up at the pumps!  He managed about 5 minutes before it was bent poor sod...

That is truly bad luck.  :(

But on a good luck front, I have just got a quote form BMW insurance. Currently I have Mercedes Insurance (Aviva) and although you pay through the nose for it, it gives me a little piece of mind as there is no hassle if you want the car fixing at a MB Garage (I realise you can get this done with other insurance companies, but it can be difficult) and as the Merc was quite expensive I figured I might as well throw more money at it :D Anyhoo , I got a quote for my BMW initially from Merc (Aviva) and they wanted another £30 to top up my last 4 months of pollicy :( So having taken up the free 7day cover from BMW I asked for a formal annual quote from them and......

......half the price of the Merc insurance! That's is quite a bit too. Happy happy :)

Result! I found BMW's insurance to be quite competitive too....

Servicing costs.... not so much... swings & roundabouts eh!

I don't remember my previous BMW insurance being particularly cheap and now that woman pay a little more insurance (after the parity thing with men :( ) I thought it might go up. Can't say how happy I am
