Fabia Vs Octavia. The battle.

Featured Replies

After much deliberation, I've decided to try and settle the Fabia Vs. Octavia battle albeit on a small scale.

I'm looking for a couple of willing voulenteers who can attend just off M40 J10, possibly during the week, late afternoon. There is no telling, however, when Thames Valley traffic police will be using the airfield for driver training so there is about a 25% chance we wont be able to do the test and you'll have to go home (hence, the local thing)

The venue is the former USAF base at Upper Heyford. Nearly 2 miles of uninterupted taxi-way the width of 7 motorway lanes. No road racing is involved and it will be carried out on private land to which I have full, unlimited access.

At the moment I have no idea on date but it will be between now and Christmas, for now I'm just looking for potential names.

Idealy I'm looking for:

Standard Octavia VRs

Standard Fabia VRs

Octavia 1.8T with remap but no other major mods

Fabia VRs with remap but no other major mods

Octavia with unlimited mods

Fabia with unlimited mods

Please list yourself below along with a brief car spec if you are reasonably local and would be interested in taking part.

I'm about an hour away - would love to be there. Standard Octy VRS.

Juction 10 is oxford way is it not?

Ok I found it on the map now  It's about an hour away from me too, depending on when I'd be interesting in popping along

This could be interesting - it is too far for me, but i am already looking forward to the results/excuses ;)

I cant wait to Come last :D

i'm up for that. bout an hour for me. 220bhp octavia.

Obviously the Octy's are gonna win every time.

Will you be doing in-gear tests?

Measuring fuel economy?

60/100 - 0?

The effect of brskoda stickers?

Only if you do the whole range are the Furbys gonna stand a chance.

Be interesting to see a real performance car in standard spec (Scooby or whatever?) in the mix to see how the Skodas compare there.

Edit: If J10's near Warwick (work there) I'd be up for it.

Pah, no twisties

Pah, no twisties

Cones = twisties :rolleyes::D

Got the octy boys running scared already :rofl::rofl:

On a serious note, what about non-vrs versions - 100bhp TDi vs 1.4 100bhp etc.

Could be a good event?

Now if it was the M57/M58...

I'll have to see what I can arrange. To test the full range would take a lot of time and organisation. The original idea is to test just the "performance" Skodas to try and solve some of the Briskoda in-fighting.

There may be a couple of standard "benchmarking" non VAG cars available ;)

I'll come, i dont care when it is I will be there. Mods as per sig.

I may be suprised, but I wont be expecting to be passed by standard/lightly modded Octy's.

You should definately have an in gear timing thing if possible too, just to drive home the point that the Fabia is not the useless bag of S**te that "SOME" octy owners think it is.

Handling course? Slalom?

I'll even have all the seats, spare wheel, and full tank of fuel.

Should have a 1/2 throttle race too to simulate normal driving.

damn i was going to come and show you how it is all done ;):rofl:

If my car is there and fully remapped, I'll give it a shot. Oxford is only 2 hours from me.

Would my car come under "unlimited" though? :D

Just an idea but when I was in the paxospotclub they had an airfield for the day, which was all good fun! Could we not do the same? Maybe get a mag or skoda or someone to sponsor us to cut down the costs? I do believe REV's took part in this day. It's the only time my car has ever been in a mag (I know the shame of it all)

Sounds like a meet in the making here Phil.

The airfield in question that the paxo guys used was Alconbury airfield but after doing some research it is now under development. But I'm sure there are others?

I take it Superbs aren't invited cos we'd wipe the floor with the lot of you whilst wafting around in an air of luxury and quietness ;)
