Front Windscreen wipers

Featured Replies

Hi,

I got my first car 2 weeks ago (yay!) But the front windscreen wipers don't work, I've read around forums about fuse 15 and my car had no fuse in that slot; I have placed a 5 amp fuse and a 10amp fuse in that slot but still no luck!

Could someone please help! Absolutely stuck!!

In the manual I have a copy of fuse 15 has nothing to do with wipers! I suggest you check the manual properly for the correct fuse location. Try 40, but do check the correct manual as I am working off an electronic copy that may not be applicable to you!

If you have not got the owners handbook, a PDF copy can be downloaded from here;

Look for the option box "Your car production period:" towards the top of the page to select the most appropriate manual relating to the year of your car.

Well I've checked the fuse box and everything is fine, the motor is working too. I've gone and brought a new steering column control (indicator & wiper stalks) and still no luc; the relays are all good. I'm lead to believe its the Comfort control module. Am I assuming correctly?

Does it not work on all positions or just the first/ intermittent. There was an issue where a fault bonnet catch can stop the wipers working I was once told by a garage doing an MOT on my fabia as they had had a few polos with similar catches where the wipers stopped working. May be worth a check?

It doesn't work on all positions apart from pushing it towards me and away from me; both times the rear wiper goes off with no spray at all

I wish it was the bonnet catch but I have opened and closed the bonnet hoping that it fixes it. Unfortunately not

Do the wipers come on at all if you start driving and then stop completely when stationary apart from the rear wipe as this could still be the bonnet catch at fault. If you google VW wipers and bonnet catch there are quite a few threads that sound similar to the issue I think?

Might be worth seeing if you can swap just to rule it out? If not maybe an auto electrician might be able to find an issue?

Ah I'll give that a try and get back to you on the result.

Basically no luck whatsoever. I tried the bonnet catch trick that Fabia00 told me to try. I managed to get my hands on a new Comfort Control Module, still no luck. Ran a Diagnostics machine and no problems have come up. Perhaps I've just got an unlucky first car!

Thanks to everyone for their help, appreciate it

How old is the car and is it still in warranty ?

My brand new montes wipers stopped working 50mile from home in the rain and ended up on the Rac lowloader

Another Fabia mk2 quirk to match the oil usage and leccy windows!

If new or in warranty have a Skoda dealer look at it

Its a 2008 so its well out of warranty!

But managed to fix it, the problem was with the earthing of the car. Needed to re earth the electronics and voila the car was sorted. Perhaps this was the problem with your Monte, but thankfully it was still in warranty
