Honda s2000 is the old favourite.

I used a polo 6r gti one just needed a slight trim.

Ahh ha mk1 octy VRS and mk1 Fab VRS SE. What a combo.

  • Author

wanted something better than the octy..  lighter, and more nimble...    plus a 55mpg return when commuting is the winner!

Octavias are good, but im deffo feeling a fabia more now days.  Octy feeling old hat now.   still... good for annoying un expected fat cats in there super saloons!

Fabia vRS and light are not two words normally put together :)

its a micro filter found on Mercedes. i discovered them when servicing 1 of the Limos at work so knew what had to be done.   they fit nicely under the ecu so out of the way.

i also fitted a 3" intake pipe too to aid with some airage..

dont look pretty atm, but im in 2 minds to keep it or not.   the intake will be molded into the air box if i decide to go that route.

sexy stoppage

20140901_184607.jpg

i drove it to work this morning, not knowing the car and it was spot on. The 370ft lbs of torque was fun and quite handy pulling out of junctions quickly, and i still saw 53.8 MPG.   i had a lively drive home as a comparison, and still saw 42 which i was quite impressed with.

with any luck, my darkside braided turbo oil feed pipe will be here tomorrow. that will make me feel more at ease knowing that my turbo can stay in good health.

happy ;)

during the week i got excited as some shiny bits were delivered..

Darkside braided oil feed pipe.

10250340_732286430175719_809228969675540

i have done these on my past diesels with no probs and was surprised that this 1 didnt already have 1 as it was hybrid. It had however had a new solid oil feed pipe fitted that weeped slightly due to there being no PTFE tape around the thread on top of the turbo.

10687215_732417213495974_186788035262580

you can see the weepage on this pic,  you can also see a strand of PTFE tape but that will be explained shortly.

1 day after work i stayed behind to do the quick pipe change.   How wrong i was.   im not sure if it was because i was drained from work it all went t1ts up, but to start off when undoing the oil feed pipe filter end, i clean snapped the oil pressure sensor off.

i then when fitting the new braided pipe filter end, dropped 1 of the copper washers and could not find it for a good 15 mins.  every torch from work i picked up had a dead battery, eventually i found it sat on the lip of the engine block.

so i continue, now turbo side, working blind with the power of touch only, i could not work out why the oil feed pipe would not bit the thread on top of the turbo. i get me phone and take some pics to find the union in the turbo.  u can see its just a allen key down the union and un screw it. re fit with new braided pipe... all good.  so apon putting my phone back on the scuttle tray, i drop another fecking copper washer under the scuttle!!!!      a couple of words later i take a deep breath and go to remove wipers to get into my scuttle.

they were seized on.. :(

i tried a puller, brute force, all sorts and they would not budge.  i been lubing them with wd all week so hoping ill be able to get em off next try.

moving back to the brided pipe, i hunt my work shed and find a sutable washer..   i try to remove the union in the turbo and it dont wanna budge.  now at this point u can imagine i had the ar$e ache..  so instead of snapping it in the turbo, i removed the braided line from filter end and refitted the solid oil line.   :(

i tried so hard to wrap some PTFE around the turbo union but without having mc dee straws for arms and being able to see through engines, i failed..

to say i was slightly annoyed was an understatment! haha!

i will attempt again this week, when 1 im not so knackerd  and 2, with the turbo a bit warm so hopfully that union will come out with no dramas.

bad week for the fabia!  lol

as you can see the engine is out, in changing the gearbox as the oil cooler failed and filled the box up with water.  Simple really, lift lump as high as poss, 2 jacks underneath on timber and the gearbox comes down.

to do this, you need to undo all bell housing bolts on the gearbox.  to get to the bottom bolts u need to support the box with 1 jack, whilst holding the top of the box with a bolt in the top of the bell housing, soooooo when u free the 2 bottom bolts, the box dont drop and u can get the second jack under it to remove...

unfortunatly, the top bolt snapped/comeout and the gearbox fell 12-to 14" straight onto my hand.

20140909_212320.jpg

20140909_212341.jpg

20140909_212433.jpg

these boxes weigh thee same as a small  engine,  after having to push the gearbox off my hand as it was to heavy to pull it out, a trip to a&e later, they said the swelling was to bad to 100% tell if it was broken. the box landed between my finger and thumb and has flattened my muscle.  u can see from the pics my hands about 1.5" wider than my other. lol

so i decided on some retail therapy..

bought this from forum member tech1e.
