Disconnecting "cateyes" in the ceiling of Skoda Superb

Featured Replies

I my new Superb there are two "cateye" lights in the ceiling. The are lit also at night, which is a nuisance to me. Can they be shut of in the software somewhere or do I have to discennect the wires?

you can't code them out

Just turn the dimmer switch down if they are too bright. I found them annoying initially but like most things you get used to them after a while.

I like them, but I preferred the MkI with red lights.

I hated them at first (I have an Ivory interior so it emphasises it more) but now i'm used to them and don't notice them anymore. At first i could always see it out of the corner of my eye seemed like the passenger side light was on. :)

What are they for?

Ambient lighting, which makes it easier on your eyes when driving at night.

Correct, also illuminates the cabin to show all controls etc, a lot of trucks use them. Like Penpusher I preferred the red leds in the MK1.

I'm assuming though that if they really do bug you enough a quick removal of the lighting unit and a couple of quick snips would put the LEDs out of use. Tape over the ends and then the obvious remedial work of re crimping the wires back when getting rid of the car?

Or again removal of the lighting unit then take the LEDs out paint them with clear red model paint... Hey presto Superb mk1 cabin lights ;)

They are surface mount LEDs on the main circuit board so cannot simply be cut.

Clear Red model paint it is then for the OP. ;)

Two very small and discreet bits of rolled bluetac and the end of your finger, simple!

You can then keep them operational for the next owner in years to come.

It's a nice touch, but like Silver said get some blue tack/ white tack

They are designed to gently 'warm' the cabin with light and to prevent driver fatigue. Stops you falling asleep when driving long distances.

I like the fact that they give a 'moonlight' effect inside the car, but I can understand why some people may not like them.

I like 'em but they don't make a blind bit of difference to my fatigue levels at night. Although, thinking about it, maybe they do.

Changed mine to blue to match my footwell lights, much prefer it !

I thought they were there so you could see what you're doing with your flask when topping up your cup on the move

I'll swap you my standard light for yours with the little LEDs! :D
