Why is it that we refer to "up north" if we live down south , and if you live up north you refer to us as "down" south, but from my experience of spending some time living "up" north, we all seem to refer to a trip to London as a trip "up" to London ? 

I've never understood, why all the road signs leading out of London "up" the A1, always read "The North". As if it was a single, specific place.  What's wrong with just "North"?

Roads down here are quite quiet today, well they were until I got my new tyres this morning.

I think that the maps all have  the north to the top therfore when reading it you are looking up north (except when my mrs is reading it )

When I was a nipper it was "Bayko" building set. All plastic bricks, windows and metal pins in the base holding it together & "Floral Garden"
