Vrs black grille retrofit?

Featured Replies

My vrs will have the chrome grille on it when it arrives. I want the black grille but not the not the black mirror covers. Can the black grille be purchased separately and stealer retrofitted?

Cheers

Think the Grille is part of the front bumper.  I think

Can be removed and replaced. Stealer will tell you it's a bumper off job. I had no interest in paying the labour for that and/or retaining the chrome grill so drilled in several places and used a small l metal hook to pull off.

I have just changed mine from chrome to black. It is very VERY much a bumper off job - You cannot change it correctly unless you do so. I unmounted the bumper myself. It's tough but can be done. XPower posted a guide in the technical section on where the screws are.

Well you CAN change it without doing so. But not without destroying the old frame.

Ok then, NOT removing a bumper from a new car! The mirror covers in black? Painted? A wrap? Next change option?

Do you want to keep the old grill? If so take the bumper off, if not it can be done very easily without doing so

Why when it's only £40?

Mirrors you can buy black caps, and pop them off yourself. Look on YouTube, there are examples for golfs, just need a plastic knife to get in slot

New or old it shouldnt matter, nothing will change as it gets oldet :-). it will be easier to do when it's new as the screws won't be rusty and the wheel arches full of crud!

If you have the black replacement grille it's an hour job tops, the look is worth it IMHO

1) I don't have the car yet

2) then it arrives, it will be perfect & new, and my track record at breaking cheap plastics clips in jobs like this etc is woeful. I was going to leave it under spring at least to buy/ fit when its warmer

3) didn't check price, assumed it would be >100 GBP. If its 40 new, you are right, price isn't the issue.

If its an old ford, no probs but attempting something i have never done before on plastic bits which tend to break on me, not excited tbh plus i begruge having to pull apart a car which i've just spent 28k on, no offence.

Amen

You will wait ages to get one from Skoda - I gave up and got it from abroad. (£77)

By looking at the new one you will see where the clip holes are.

No way I was taking the bumper off a new car and all the hassle, so just remove the 4 screws on top of the grill to get your hand in, then undo the 4 clips at the top / top sides, then break off the others / take the old grille off in pieces. Push the new one on / clips straight into place. Put the 4 screw back in.

Takes about 5 minutes and no damage whatsoever. (You only break the old grille which is going in the bin anyway).

my dealer did mine took them about  30 mins .........................
