100hp. Do you know the engine code? Should be in the service book or on a sticker under the boot carpet. If 100 the code will probably be ATD.

W was too early for the 130 which was only in the vRS models from 2003 onwards.

According to in what car - at 2000, couldn't it be the 90, 110 (likely) or possibly the 115 - first of the PD's?

Mustn't lose sight that the parts bin bods got a bit slapdash at times with their lettering colours: VW = Varies Wildly - old but true.

Once upon a time it was a red TDI that denoted it was the 130, and red TDI that noted it was a 150.  Those were the days  :notme:

'Is a 2000 (W) 1.9tdi ok' is a big question.  There's a general view that the pre PD (90 & 110's) are better because of their simpler, and therefore more robust fuelling system. But you get more oomph out of the PD's.  Generally speaking, the 1.9tdi is a sound engine - in my opinion.

TDi should mean a 110. In an Octy the other way to tell a 130PD is that it has a 6-speed box rather than a 5 (but all manual Furbie 1s have 5-speeds).

The 110 engine is "probably ok", but suffers from an issue where the variable geometry vanes in the turbo stick up if it's driven gently all the time.

according to wiki the only 1.9s fitted to non vRS' were the ATD and the AXR, both 100HP

had a "w" octavia slx tdi which was a 110 hp for 10 years did 220,000 in it finally got rid of it with 260,000 on the clock . engine was fine there was a slight tapping on start up but goes when engine warmed up.

did mainly motorway driving & clutch was replaced at 240,000 . other bits failed but i would have kept driving it but came into a bit of money so chopped it in for an 09 vrs

Cheers chaps....so it's basically ok, it's been well serviced and looked after, you'd never think it was at 200k, afaik everything that should work did..

To be honest, the only thing putting me off is the tax, I'm used to 130 a yr this is 250odd

mine was at 260,000 2 1/2 years ago so not too many miles

I'd thought about them or a map but I really need an estate hence asking about the skoda as the one I was looking at is so will keep my money till I know what car I'll have....what kind of power could the 1.9 octy get with a map or box

The old 110 TDi octy is a very good car, better than the new 1.6s or the first 2.0 140s (duno about the new ones, not driver one). They are very economical and extremely reliable and are quick enough for most things.

The 110 can be easily mapped to 140, and can get up to 200 with injectors and a bit more.  There's a chap over on UKPassats that's got a 110 up at 200.

It's quite acceptable at a boggy standard 110.

Sounds good......all I need to do now is decide if I want to 135 more in tax for a year than I pay just now for a 1.7

still cheap tax compared over here in ROI - my 1.9 2004 is 670e tax per yr (500 +odd sterling).... only post 2008 reg cars are on emissions bands..

We need to know the trim level; The Octy SLXi or Elegance (pre or post facelift) have the 110, but the lower spec turbos have the 90.

And once we know that, we can answer the "remap to" question as well.

As to the tax, it sounds like it's just missed the CO2 bands cutoff; my 110 on a 52 plate is £130 a year.

Wiki is wrong (unless you're talking about Furbies); who'd a thunk it?

It'll be a SLX as I don't think the new names of elegance etc started till 2001.

It's the slx....but to honest, the tax is really putting me off, also

I'd need to tax it before driving as its sorned plus I was told I can't pay up because I'd be the new owner so would need to stump up at least 135 for 6 months.....plus being half way through Nov I'd lose again. This tax carry is a fkn joke, it's going to cause a lot of hassle for selling stuff

It's a 110 then, and will remap to about 140 with a stage 1; play with injectors, an FMIC and the pump core and a good custom remap can go to at least 200bhp without internals.

I agree about the tax gouge based on first registration. As I say, mine is mechanically identical and tax is only £130.

What is your budget?

It might be worth finding a car registered post March 2001 as the tax will then go on emissions and be far lower for the TDIs

Think that's what I'll do, maybe some bugger won't mind 255 for a yr, I do

Same here, £130 a year, TDI 110. Is the tax higher simply if registered before 2001?

Yes as before then it goes on engine size alone.
