2015 F1 General Discussion Thread

Penske in V8 Supercars is about publicity for Penske Truck Rental and other businesses over there.

Have you any links to these F1 rumours?

I'm an avid reader about Motorsports and haven't read a jot about it.

If Gene Haas is a front for anyone it's clearly the Ferrari B-team, since Maranello are apparently running the windtunnel flat-out doing "Haas F1" development (as allowed by the rules for new constructors).

  • There doesn't seem to be any love for Kimi after coming from the back and finishing 4th  - I haven't seen his name mentioned once in any of the commentaries. I think he did well after the mess up that

  • Really?   Probably one of the first races this season that I've fully watched and if I'm totally honest I was bored out of my tree - processional at the best. Plus the pinnacle of motor racing and t

Any new joiners would almost certainly buy an existing team and simply rebound it. It's cheaper and quicker.

So who's keen to offload their team? I remember VAG were once looking at Toro Rosso as an easy way in. IIRC only the commercial terms from Bernie prevented things going through.

FPMSL. Safety car out due to debris at end of straight/pit lane and there are just a couple of marshals with witches broomsticks clearing the track. :D

Get a bloody mini road sweeper out there!

Best race since Canada 2011!

Some genuinely moving tributes to Jules  :'(   Hats off to the Seb and Kvyat for their tributes.

Good race, but F1 is on the buffers and needs a radical rethink.

Well, that was more like it.  Hamilton made more errors today than he has all season drops back to thirteenth and then finishes sixth, two places in front of Rosberg. I did smile a bit when Rosberg cut across Ricciardo and punctured his rear tyre, I think that was pay back for puncturing Hamilton's tyre at Spa last year.

It was nice to see three teams competing for the race and Ferrari seemed to have real pace, just a shame that Kimi had reliability issues.

Why did Rosberg go for the harder tyre in the last stint? had he put on the soft option he might have won. I think he just wanted to cover what Hamilton was doing rather than go for Vettel.

Seb deserved the win today, kept his nose clean and had decent pace. Hamilton lost it at the start and tried to do too much later on the first lap and Rosberg had no pace but still had a big chance to close the points gap. I think Crashtor must have set the record for number of penalties in a race, I counted at least 3. I still think Mercedes and Hamilton will win both titles but after today I would suspect that Vettel is a bigger threat to Lewis than Rosberg. Manual starts should be interesting from spa onwards

Sorry but Ricciardo was so out of control there he was lucky to not put himself in the wall.

Yeah, he was so out of control that he put two wheels on the kerb.

I think the last time Ferrari won was a hot race ? so back to normal for spa ? My man of the match would go to Riccardo, even if he did get a bit enthusiastic at the end.  :sun:

He was nowhere near hitting the wall.

Plus double points for McHonda. Slightly lucky with others misfortune but its racing. Also well done Max Verstappen on p4 again a tad fortunate but you have got to get to the line and he did just that :). I also think back to normal at spa if the mercs don't collide on lap 2 again

That was a truly interesting and engaging race. Always something happening, and just when it appeared to be settling down.... BOOM! Hulkenberg goes code brown and it's back into action again.

That said, unless you're Mistic Meg, you're F1 prediction score probably just took a pummeling...

I knew it was only a matter of time before Ricciardo put one down the inside of Nico. Not a big Hamilton fan, mainly because I'm sick of seeing him disappear at the front and do nothing all race (much more exciting in an underpowered car!) so I was a bit disappointed to see Nico shred his tyre so near to the end of the race but I guess that's karma for you :dull:

Wonder what the bookies odds were on a Red Bull double podium?

Maldonado should have parked up after his 2nd penalty.

"Sebastian Vettel believes it is 'game on' for Ferrari in the Formula 1 title race, and he has no doubt his team will "try absolutely everything" to catch Lewis Hamilton."

I personally hope Ferrari can turn the heat up on Mercedes as I'm sick to death of seeing them pull away each race! :)

It's only been 2 years.

How bored were you between 2000 and 2005 when there was only ever going to be 1 winner? :)

Renault engine cars taking 3 of the first 4 places and I was in the Ferrari store in Milan the afternoon of the race, thank God for a break in the Mercedes show it was getting tiresome.

Hopefully not business as usual in Spa but I fear it might be.  Some rain dancing might be required.   (It rained in Italy one of the days last week after 45 days of no rain, they were very glad of it).

I wouldn't get too excited for the Renault engines, Red Bull think they're carp. The Hungaroring circuit is nearer to Monaco than Silverstone in it's characteristics. If the Mercs had got away clean at the start then the best would have been a Red Bull fifth place behind the Ferrari's. Go back to Silverstone and the best Renault engined car was over a minute behind the winner.

There was an issue with a lack of lubrication to the bottom of the pistons that they could not replicate back in the labs but this is now sorted and so Renault can push on with upping the power now this is addressed.

Worth remembering that Mercedes is a much smaller company than Renault (Nissan Alliance and now Nissan is the largest selling Japanese company in Europe) and Goshn has now personally intervened in the F1 issue.  It was always going to be an issue after the Renault engine cars won 4 manufacturers titles in a row and 6 out of the last 10 that they would loose focus especially in the recession for low and medium priced cars rather than expensive cars.

Hats off for Mercedes engineers getting the quantum leap in turbo design (still much lower power than the Renault engines of 20 years ago but much more efficient of course).

Most people would like to see the big manufacturers ie Ford, GM, VAG as well as Renault in F1 as well as the low to medium volume manufacturers such as Ferrari and Mercedes I think.

Daimler Benz owns Mercedes, so I would imagine that they're a fairly large company, but I'm not too sure the size of the company relates to the design of an F1 engine

20 years ago it was different regs, you can only compare engines built to the same regs

Mercedes a medium volume manufacturer?
