Honda's major issue is the 4 year head start Mercedes have on developing these powertrains.

I don't think they'll ever catch that up.

  • There doesn't seem to be any love for Kimi after coming from the back and finishing 4th  - I haven't seen his name mentioned once in any of the commentaries. I think he did well after the mess up that

  • Really?   Probably one of the first races this season that I've fully watched and if I'm totally honest I was bored out of my tree - processional at the best. Plus the pinnacle of motor racing and t

Cant remember where but I read that Honda had attempted a merc-like layout with their power unit and drivetrain. It seems to have worked well enough to beat Ferrari..........Manor Ferrari.

It's not that bad then if they have already surpassed last years most rubbish engine...

Or have they?

I suspect the 2015 Mclaren beats the 2014 Manor chassis, but the 2015 Honda doesn't beat the 2014 (customer model) Ferrari.

Reading that piece it appears that Honda can't wind the power up due to overheating issues and the constraints of the design envelope from McLaren might be the root of the problem.

Well no, but only because the car broke down before he had the chance! ;)

Man their tech journo is a dope.

Axial flow compressors boost less than centrifugal???

That why Centrifugal jet engines died out in the 1940's mate.  Axial give much higher compression.

If he mis-understands turbines so badly, how much credence can we place in any of his report.

I believe the cooling seal problems were endemic in pre-season 2014 testing too, so Honda are just suffering what all the other manufacturers did the year before.

I seem to remember Renault trying to blame Red Bull for packaging issues in the same way.

Yes he did, on Friday in Free Practice...

Lotus had their equipment impounded over a legal dispute.

How long before they see sense and ditch Maldonado?

I Think Maldonado brings cash to the team.

I Think Maldonado brings cash to the team.

I'd want cash in truck loads, to pay for his damages!

I Think Maldonado brings cRash to the team.

fixed that for you

fixed that for you

I think you're being a little harsh on Maldonado, after all he only crashes on a day with a 'Y' in it.

Hulkenburg signed 2yr extension with Force India

Poor lad, always in the wrong place at the wrong time...  He'll never get into a big team now (excepting Porsche naturlich), and Bottas may not either.

Massa signs to stay at Williams.

so does Botty.

I cant see your story but I guess it's Merc, new spec engine, 7 more tokens etc.

Autosport says Ferrari are doing the same.

Who will do the best job and will either suffer with reliability?

If both do, Williams and RBR (and FI) will be laughing.

Pirelli wanted cars to run another 5 psi, car bargain for 1 psi i gather now.  Could have been a bit of a leveler as well as good for safety.

Hamilton 1.5 seconds faster than Vettel in FP1.  New Merc is fast then.

McHonda planning to change engines multiple times during weekend.

The penalties for that just aren't stopping them doing it at all. It's like 1982 all over again.

Yeah the tokens Merc used really paying dividends and also gives them a huge platform to work from in 2016.

Honda might as well start from the back in every race this season.  Strategically it allows them to gather more data/aero than anyone with more tyre options. Run the blocks till they blow, at least a broken engine guarantees tv coverage time and an interview. If they finish a few places up then it's a good measure of progress.

"Starting at the back I can only gain places" ~someone

Trying to quali in p10 or above just risks more than the net gain, imho. Of course pressure to do well and race is a core tenant for a race team. Oddly I root for them now more than anyone else, why do we love underdogs so much :)

I found myself wondering about making the penalty for being "put off the back of the grid" by places penalties a pitlane start with a time penalty.

The 5, 10, 105? grid place penalties used to carry forward to subsequent races but now they do not, which is just as well for McHonda, otherwise their drivers next year (whoever they are) would already be starting at the back for several races working off the previous season's penalty points.
