6 or 7 speed DSG

Featured Replies

Hi

Just a quick question, I have just been told at the Skoda garage that the 2014/2015 VRS diesel comes with a 6 speed DSG and the petrol with a 7 speed DSG. I have had a look on the internet and can't find any conformation.

Any ideas?

Kind Regards

John

I thought they were both 6 speed, but I might be wrong :)

Agreed I thought only the 1.6tdi and 1.4tsi came with the 7spd DSG gearbox and there are no current plans to change it either..... Something to do with the amount of torque going through the gearbox I believe.

I think the 1.8 TSI is also the 7 speed so-called 250 Nm electronically limited DSG, so-called due to many having shown far greater figures being produced, usual VAG understatements.

Tsi vrs is a 6 speed Dsg

Maybe the dealer is getting mixed up with the Fabia TSI VRS which has the 7 speed DSG, but with the 1.4 180 bhp engine.

To be fair though if a dealer doesn't know what Dsg box a tsi vrs comes with i would find another dealer.

1,8 TSI with 4x4 is 6-speed DSG (at least mine is!)

VAG limits the new 7speed to 250Nm of torque, any engine which produces more than that will have the stronger & older 6speed DSG.................simples

Both vRS's have 6 speeds. The rest of the range have 7 speeds.

My CR150 is a six speed :)

So are the 4x4 variants I believe.

Should have put rest of the petrol range have 7 speeds.

Thanks for the info. Mmm the dealer was short on a number of details although he has tabled a good deal. Will see.

Kind regards

John.

The mk3 octy vRS has a 6 speed manual or 6 speed DSG gearbox there to much power for the 7 speed DSG box to take

Should have put rest of the petrol range have 7 speeds.

Excluding 4x4 1.8TSi?

Is there a 4x4 petrol? I thought the only 4x4 was the scout which is only available in diesel.

I've learnt something new.

There are other markets than the UK :)

At least here in Finland there are 4x4 versions of the 1.8 TSI, 1.6 TDI and both 2.0 TDI engines. The 1.8 TSI and the 184 hp 2.0 TDI versions are equipped with the 6 speed DSG.

The 7 speed DSG is available on the 1.2 TSI, 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines without 4x4.

(And the Scout is available only with the 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines.)

We get the 1.8TSI 4x4 Elegance in New Zealand.  The Scout has just arrived as well in both 1.8TSI and 2.0TDI.

Actually the Scout is only in NZ in TDI. The TSI is coming April next year.

Speaking of the DSG gearboxes: Are there any blow up diagrams of them available online?

I'm quite curious on how the park -latch has been designed...I'm just wondering if it's sturdy enough to leave the car in park without using the handbrake (unless there's a steep incline). I don't feel comfortable using the handbrake through the winter, since we sometimes have weather that can make the brakes stick...it's something that's happened to me in some previous cars and I prefer to just leave the car in gear in the winter time if I'm parked on level ground.

kallekilponen, front wheels on full lock to the kerb also, is great idea if your gonna park without using the handbrake.

Couple of bricks to chock the wheels :)

And an anchor maybe?

There is a DQ500 7 speed wet box but VAG only fit this to more premium VW and Audi offerings. Any Skoda with more than 184lb/ft maximum torque will have the older but arguably more reliable DQ250 box, the 7 speed dry DQ200 is only typically mated to the 1.2/1.4 TSi and 1.6 TDi motors due to their lower torque output.
