Water in drivers footwell

Featured Replies

I suppose you get to a point where you think "if its missing bodywork welds....what other problems are there".

Got to be honest I'd be kicking into SUK, either to get the fix pushed forward or on the basis the car is quite faulty that they support the replacement of the car with something similar either new or nearly new from dealer/SUK stock. Rejecting the car now will be borderline impossible but they could help you into a different car if you could convince them.

  • I'd take it straight back tbh. This is not normal

  • Skoda Ensurance were involved but the repair centre was an authorised Skoda repairer. To be honest I can't see how it can be the mirror so will keep an eye on it and take it into Skoda if it persists.

I would insist on a new car

I haven't raised it with Skoda UK yet but I'm getting close!

The saga continues. Dealer has done a further water test after welding hole and water is still getting in from somewhere else. Getting fed up with the courtesy car which is a gutless 1.2 rapid, trouble is Skoda can't say when I'll get my car back. In the last three months I've been without my car for around six weeks.

Six days and I would be on their backs to sort it, having learned from experience that he who shouts loudly and politely often gets a faster result. As I said in my post above it would have been better to advise SUK of your problem as soon as it seemed to be a larger problem than first thought.

The problems I had in my BMW after the soaking kept appearing, due in the main to water ingress into the connectors under the foot-well carpets. These problems never were really sorted.

I would now write to SUK, stating what has happened, 'what and when' and ask them to look into the case, explain that the loan Rapid is not suitable for your needs and that you did not spend all that money just to end up driving a Rapid. (My Mrs thinks her 1.4 TSI Rapid Spaceback is brill')

Good luck and keep us posted.

I have noticed that snow (=melting to water) in the gap between bonnet and windscreen seems occasionally to dip in. Could have something to do with the electric cabin heater I have got installed.

B.T.W Your're lucky when getting Rapid as courtecy car. Last, and also first time my car went in, for fitting footwell lights, I got CitiGo with wintertyres+spikes...J..sus what a NOISE :)

Get it done!

Just email the customer services email address, state it is a formal complaint.

Be polite and state your case.

Car still at the dealership apparently in bits and no closer to solving the issue. Fed up now and have emailed the CEO of Skoda UK directly with details of the protracted saga and hoping one of his team can push this thing through to a satisfactory resolution.

And on the subject of the rapid 1.2 courtesy car, someone has only gone and driven straight into the back of it with my wife sat at a junction! It never rains but it pours and most of it ends up in the drivers footwell of my car, boom boom!

Tough luck Jonnygood, I hope the wife's OK.

I got a look at Black_Sheep's fixed car the other night and ...... whilst its not very pretty but, only time will tell if it works.

At least it wasn't your car, I suppose.

Hope she's ok, and they pull their fingers out (or put them in.... Like the little boy and the dyke) with your cat now

...still waiting for SUK to call me back as promised. It's been 48 hours since I collected the car and not a peep!

As others have said, hope everyone is ok. And I trust that there is not some extortionate excess that they will try to get you to pay until the insurance companies sort it all out.

Cheers guys, she is okay, bit of a stiff neck as is typical with a rear end shunt, especially as she was looking to her right at the time waiting for a gap in the oncoming traffic.

There was an excess of £500 and there was a suggestion they might want me to pay it and then it would be claimed back from the other party's insurance, but apparently it is up to the dealership. Probably when the CEO's office gets in touch they might decide a request to stump up is in order!

Black_Sheep, has your dealership said everything is fine and they've definitely solved the problem or are they just hopeful the problem has been solved? I guess they must have done a water test and been satisfied, guess you're waiting for the next rain shower!

Not sure how Black Sheep is doing but still no progress on our car, dealership now getting a bit arsey with us, because we have the gall to question why the repair is taking so long, and some tosh about how long it takes to discover a water leak blah blah blah.

Initial contact with a reprentative from the CEO's office at Skoda UK produced a phone call promising to get back to us Friday to discuss the matter but have heard nothing, despite getting back on the phone to them and emailing them. Hoping they contact us again some time today after a much stronger email sent on Friday evening, but I'm not confident.

I can see us running about in this terrible courtesy car for ever and a day, essentially noone seems to give a flying f**k.

Just had a long chat with the dealership, a few issues ironed out over Customer Care, but no further down the line with resolving the leak. Dash to be removed next!

Things may be on the up and up, Skoda UK are having a hire car delivered to our door tomorrow as a replacement for the 1.2 Rapid courtesy car.

Not exactly the same problem, but on a similar 'water ingress' line.

Have a brand new Octavia Estate, 2.0L 150, which retains anything up to half a litre of water inside the front door sills after it rains, and 'dumps' it when you open the doors (over your shoes if you are not careful!).  Have been back to the retailer, and phoned Skoda, who claim this is 'normal' for an Octavia, and acceptable!

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or has an angle / opinion on it?

Are you parked on a slope facing downhill?

I remember some members have cut small slits in strategic places of the door seals to prevent this. I think some have even got it done at a dealer.

There are modified front door seals - mine were replaced under warranty and no longer hold the water. Get the dealer to change them - it is a known problem.

My leak into front footwell was from the front was from the front scuttle.

Mine does that on the passenger door, same comments from Skoda dealer about it being normal.

Sadly it doesn't explain the leak in mine which is still no nearer a resolution.

Looking at trying to secure a new replacement vehicle at the moment as totally fed up with the whole thing.

Hoping the dealership maybe able to offer me some favourable deals.

I notice the "was" past tense, is it dry now ?

Finally, after 8 weeks, we look like getting our car back tomorrow fixed.

A very lengthy saga which will hopefully now be resolved, and a pretty reasonable good will gesture put in by Skoda and the dealership to cover all the inconvenience.

We had the occasional rain here since getting the car and it is parked on a slope. But I have not experienced any large amount of water draining when opening the doors (just a bit of water is left, but not more than in my Scirocco) on our VRS (built week 15/04). So I'm wondering whether they have started putting the good seals into their factory line?

Did they have to remove the dashboard in the end?
