  • Not that engine but I've been in a swift 'attitude'. Big wheels n that, made to look sporty. I found the ride was terrible. Really crashy. So get a test drive first, id say (:

  • Rapid little car, great autobox and fairly big inside. Found the ride sporty rather than comfortable. But, being small and shopping trolley sized, I didn't expect anything else.  Usual thing - go and

I've tried to explain to her that almost anything will feel more stable than the micra (<900kg kerb weight), she doesn't need a SUV. So we're still looking at smallish hatchbacks and 'small' SUVs. MPVs, Estates and saloons are apparently out of the question even estates are just lowered SUVs in most design terms.

This is making even locating some decent option near home quite difficult. £3000 without being 10+ years old or younger but much closer to £5000 which I'd rather not spend now if I could help it.

And everyday the micra is developing anopther fault. At least the central locking has resolved itself. Just the heating and vent failing now and a suspicisious oil leak by the rocker cover

Cheers :D

I've done that myself looking at the candidates, over £3500 for a 10 year old Yaris? See what I mean. She's not said out loud but I don't think she'd be happy with a mid size hatchback like the Ceed or another Mazda3. I showed her a 2002 Audi A3, up for £2000, which she thought looked ok but outside of that we might struggle in that size car. Leon, Octy (1 & 2) got tossed straight away, mk4 golf would do but late A5 platform cars are mostly DSG which I'd rather avoid at that age.

Of the others there, I'm not convinced by the Vauxhall autos for some reason. My dad has a recent Colt auto but there's little choice around. She doesn't like the early 2000s round light Polo and they're leggy and expensive and the 2005/6ish update puts them at more than Fabia mk2 money. Looks like most Fabia mk2 autos are low spec estates too :( Ibizas are like rocking horse poo.

Lack of choice in so many models obviously makes it difficult to view a few and choose the best one so this may take some time.

Hmmm see what you mean.

Any VAG car with the 1.6 and an "auto" will be the old tiptronic and not a DSG so that may be a possibility. I think they also did this engine/gearbox in some early MkV Golfs.

A Fabia hatch 1.6 Tiptronic would be spot on I reckon... if you can find one!

There's a couple of hatches but mostly top end of the budget.

God has answered my cries though, a Suzuki Ignis has come up about 2 miles from home. I didn't think she'd like it but she said it looks like a 4x4...

Ihope she feels the same after looking at it today.

My Gran had a few Ignis's on the trot. She loved them.

I nearly once bought an Ignis Sport a few years back.

Fingers crossed for you!

Calling George, the small auto king.

I tried it, it was ok, car looked straight, low mileage. But I walked away as we weren't quite there on price. Will probably phone back i the morning and buy it if its not been bought by someone else.

I did find one comment as to auto transmission problems but despite googling furiously I came up a blank so I don't think the Suzuki auto box is a big problem. crosses fingers.

No Suzuki Auto issues i know of other than with Jimny Electric controls after 2004, but you are not looking at those.

Is this a 1.5 Ignis Engine?

I had one with Autobox in a Jimny, and it was very good.

http://parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/suzuki/ignis/estate-2000/28143

Yes, 2005 1.5 GL Auto 5 door Ignis in a rather fetching blue. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/suzuki/ignis/postcode/wa150qw/radius/1/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/quicksearch/true

Seemed perky enough, although fell like being sat on a horse.

Are you going to get it for £2,400 ?

the VVT Engine is rather good. Well built cars.

No I'm not which is why I walked away.

But the missus' Micra decided to kill it's battery today and despite trying to jump it from my own car, it couldn't get enough juice.

So I'll have to pay a bit more.

Were you offering them £2,400.00 then? And they wouldn't accept?

If they won't do £2,400 then even at £2,550 (if they'd take that) you've got a cracking car for the money I reckon.

Also... does it have overdrive on the selector there? Hehe

Phil

It does have 'Overdrive Off' on the shifter, because usually you have 'Over Drive' on,

and it is good for decelerating to use 'on' / 'off',  very good for winter conditions etc. Back roads and holding gears.

Phil

nope 2600 was where I left it and the parking sensors need fixing.

Didn't spot an overdrive. I was more interested in whether it go-ed and stopped. It's only 2wd though. Just the usual D, 1 & 2 for a conventional auto.

Edited by 'daiking'

Well if the condition is good, service history good and it all drives ok and they are willing to fix the parking sensors then £2,600 is still a good price.

Get them to stick a bit of fuel in it maybe to seal the deal?

It's still under your budget.

A quick search on ebay shows 4 Ignis 1.5 Automatics. They are between £2,200 and £2,800 but all in excess of 60,000 miles. The highest of which being 83,000 miles.

Plus looking at the one up for £2,800 the front end is a different shade of silver so clearly had some body work.

So their price given the mileage seems pretty competitive. If you're happy with the car and it's in budget then go for it. It's by no means overpriced.

The deal is done anyway are the Micra is becoming increasingly fragile. If the breakers won't travel, I'm going to need a new battery for it to get it there.

The ignis is not cheap though, the tax is £205, the engine likes a drink even without the autobox and it's not 4wd.

Service history is nearly spot on and it has been used a lot more over the last 3 years than the first 6 but it needs 2 tyres as the rears are still OE original and whilst I think the AC works, it's hard to test in sub zero temp.

Re Scrapping.

In my area a Micra gets you £80 when Collected, and with some Yards £90 when Delivered.

Get Online quotes.

They are a bit of heavy fuel drinkers, but its not tragic for short, cold start journeys, and OK on longer trips.

VED is high, and always has been.

Check what the Actual Correct Oil is, and annoyingly some Servicing Technicians do not use a new Drain Plug Washer.

but a Skoda Dealership should have.

£90 collected here is the going rate. Unfortunately it is not economically viable to get it to the Nissan breakers for 'recycling'.

The 9k service intervals are not too bad when you only do 4k a year. He'll I might even do my own oil changes now.

Is there a service schedule on the box?

It seems there is if any of the following conditions apply:

Drving on rough and/or muddy roads

Repeated short trips in extremely cold weather

Towing a trailer

In which case it's every 30,000km or 24 months.

Phil

Yes on the Auto Service.

& i let sleeping dogs lay.

My 2003 47,000 mile Suzuki Gearbox which is the same,

has not been touched since its 3 Year Service was done at 30,000 miles or so.
