Vrs vs Ibiza

Featured Replies

Hi all does anyone know of any differences in the running gear on a blt vrs and a blt Ibiza one of my mates has a blt Ibiza and my vrs eats it every time obvs the engine is the same so is the box the same between the 2 or are we running different gearings ... Or is his just sh*****t which was my theory haha

Yours is remapped and his isn't.

yeah, yours is remapped.

IBTL haha

It would depend on what year his Ibiza is, for gearing wise, as they're better geared (some specific years) than the VRS.

Would also echo above whether or not yours has been mapped, or his, and more importantly, if comparing, by the same person/company.

Sound no real difference then just I'm awsome he's not :) :)

It's a seat, therefore it's probably broken in some way.

Must admit this is true. Mine has broken 3 gearboxes in a year

Could be anything

Yours could be remapped

His may have an issue (boost leak / tired turbo)

Anything could come into play

Only a rolling road is going to tell you how healthy both cars are

Maybe he just can't drive it properly.

They all use the same mechanical drivetrain, VRS's break plenty too.

Mine was a mk3 ibiza, and a 1.4 at that!

It's not unusual to find two examples of the same car and one be noticeably faster than the other. Loads of factors come into play really.

One way to see the difference would be to sit side by side rolling at 30mph in 3rd and boot it at the same time. Takes the driver/gear changes out of the equation then.

swap cars have a blast then see!

Rolling road them both at the same place same day, will show graphs comparing their exact performance. That takes all the variables out the equation as its a direct comparison of the cars not the drivers.

Its not a black art its just a case of this vehicles capability is X and yours it Y.

BLT engines vary massively in power output. The ASZs were all roughly 130bhp but BLTs dyno'd at anything up to 158bhp out of the box. How the engine has been run-in and used also makes a difference as the engine self-tunes itself within a certain range of parameters. If he's been driving his gently and you've been driving yours aggressively then his will be a bit more sluggish until it's been caned a bit. SWMBO hates it when I drive the Fabia because I always give it a good workout and clean up the back brakes. And it "doesn't feel the same" after that.

And are both running the same fuel?

Tyre pressures?

If you are running side by side have you tried swapping sides as there could be more grip on your side?

The ibiza kerb weight is approx 100kg lighter than the Fabia, so if they were both standard and you both weighed a similar amount then I would have thought the ibiza would have a slight edge. So as above, there is something wrong with the ibiza or the fabia is not standard.

Yh suppose it could be anything ... We never got down to figures like pressures fuel stuff like that except his has got about 100k more than mine lol

Didn't they do a similar test on top gear a few year back with a bmw?

Bought three bmw's all the same model, year and similar mileage to show how different they can be.
