  • You'd have to be a bit daft to think there won't be. Ford has (unlike other car makers) realised that loads of people remap and found a way to influence what people do to their cars. At least by off

  • This is my one, love the little beast.

  • Makes you wonder why so few makers do have an approved remap available. You'd think it would be better for VAG to be involved in a safe remap for it's products that just leave the door open to a mult

Dubbed ‘the Predator’ by company insiders, the new all-wheel-drive hatch will have at least 400bhp and its own unique chassis developments. The car is currently being readied for a launch in 2019.

Today’s four-year-old 376bhp first-generation A45 is capable of 0-62mph in 4.2sec, but AMG is planning to turn up the wick up further still. That’s a reflection of the threat from mega-hatch competition, which comes from the recently upgraded Audi RS3, plus the M2 CS being considered by BMW.

The A45’s M133 turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine has been comprehensively reworked to give the second evolution of the four-cylinder unit the highest specific output of any AMG production car engine. It will have more than 200bhp per litre, trumping the 189bhp per litre of its predecessor.

The engine changes will enable the new A45 to outpunch the RS3 and M2 in terms of outright power. The updates will also establish the new AMG model as the most powerful series-production hatchback that Mercedes has created so far.

Engine line-up and prices

The new 2.5-litre five cylinder TFSI quattro engine produces 400PS and 480NM of torque, powering the RS 3 from 0-62 mph in just 4.1 seconds.

The RS 3 Saloon will cost £45,250 OTR. It emits 188g/km of CO2 and produces a combined 34mpg when fitted with the standard 19-inch alloy wheels.

The RS 3 Sportback will cost £44,300 OTR. It emits 189g/km of CO2 and produces a combined 34mpg when fitted with the standard 19-inch alloy wheels.

A 296BHP Octavia,

now Skoda get a nippy car / estate finally without needing to go Superb sized.

Doh,

just a typo in the Spec, that is as far as it goes as the 0-62 or is that 0-60 shows.

George,

Autocar typo / poor editing - No never , just planning ahead.

Skoda CEO sticking to his guns (or the one VW have against his head) , no racy power in Skoda just plenty of sporty show these day.

Great that Skoda stays in WRC and still performing well.

Fabia vRS MK1 & Troubles vRS mk2, we still love you.

Hi Keith, you still have a Golf R? I'm about to jump out of my superb into a diesel Octy VRS estate....

Hi Stever750,

Got a high spec R mk7 shortly to be exchanged for a high spec R mk7.5 Estate. Still think its  the best all round Hot Hatch.

Blends nicely with my Jan 2016 Porsche Boxster 981 flats six.

Get the chance to have the occasional run out in my Partner Polo 1.8GTI 5dr DSG.

So what's this  then, you charging the Superb for the Octavia v RS TDI. Still doing a high mileage?

When do you pick up the new motor then. What spec and colour have you gone for ?

Keeping the superb, but giving it to my wife to cut the mileage down. I've PXd her ibiza for a diesel octy vrs estate in snot, sorry Rallye Green. Still hammering out 30k a year, to be fair the superb has been faultless if a little unexciting.

For a first attempt it shows real promise. I'd just be worried about lease/finance prices as the depreciation is likely to be a major handicap. Though the 5 year warranty could offset that.... You have to remember that it's main competitors have been in the hot hatch market since the beginning.

I've been saying it for a while but at the current rate of progress from Hyundai and Kia the Europeans should be worried.   A ~300bhp i40N tourer would be a nice alternative some of the VAG estate offerings.

Oh....I also love the blue they are using on the i30N.

That Korean missile is as bland as a bland thing - is it me or are almost all new cars identical? It has more than a whiff of Volvo about it, with a hint of Merc thrown in. You can't accuse Skoda stylists of trying too hard to conform, I'm beginning to like the marmite headlights on the FL Octy 3!
