VRS PD170 07 plate PROBLEMS (need help)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

   Looking for help/guidance.

After sifting through forum after forum I'm still struggling to rectify the faults I'm having.

To start a few months ago the car started throwing out a light blue smoke on tick over that much it was embarrassing this cleared as soon as the throttle was touched. I have replaced all the injector seals, checked timing, checked all turbo pipes, replaced a split flexi hose on the exhaust and still no improvements.

Luckily or so i though i had the engine light come on. plugged it in to the diagnostics and it said MAF sensor (WIN WIN) the next morning i went and fetched a brand new on connected it plugged it back in the diagnostics removed the fault drove it about 20 miles and thought i had cracked it then the day after it started again. I have cleaned out all the erg valve and air intake manifold and thought whilst at it i will blank it off.

as soon as i started it back up nothing not even a little puff. drove it 5 miles still fine then the light came on indicating the fault(blanking plate) no limp mode car drove lovely it seemed to have all its power back I did around 1000miles and then the smoke started but only a little. went on holiday last week and on the way from manchester airport to plymouth at 12 at night the engine management light came on and went straight in to limp mode. drove to the next services turned it off removed the blanking plate got carried on with my journey car still drove lovely but smoked on tick over. 20 miles from plymouth after having no lights on the dashboard the dpf light came on drove at a constant speed at 2000revs count get rid of it. Now today i have the engine light on indicating exhaust/air problem, engine management light, pdf light and limp mode??

Any help would be very much apreciated sorry for the essay.

cheers

This sucks. Blue smoke is typically due to oil being burnt. Does yours use much oil? Do you know if your car does regular DPF regens as it should? Perhaps get it scanned (VCDS) to check the DPF is still happy and not full of soot and ash.

cheers for the reply it doesn't use any more oil than normal i service it roughy every 6000 miles so its looked after. I'm meeting up with a tuner today who specialises in VAG cars and he's going to check the DPF and see if he can do an emergency regen if not he's going to do DPF delete for me. Its cheaper than a new DPF and also have a remap at the same time. so fingers crossed by tonight i should find out the problem.

mother nature?? ill still be producing less emissions than a lorry that delivers your car to the sales pitch or a jet that takes you on holiday or do you walk every where and use bio fuel!

well a full remap including dpf delete and egr delete and all problems are gone. car runs lovely will loads more torque and power through the rev range.

The PD170 and the DPF were a match made in hell.

Glad its sorted!

Every pre fl vrs should have this treatment

Stage 1 map

Dpf delete

EGR deletE

30,00 miles later and my vRS is still a absolute machine! More MPG than I know what to do with and enough power to pin me to my seat and beat 9/10 cars on the road.

No regrets...apart from not doing it sooner!!!

how have you done your grill mate? i was wanting to do something like that I've sprayed my wheel pearl black and not the grill is the only thing left thats chrome looks out of place. i was thinking of carbon wrapping it. also where did you buy your window surrounds thats another thing I've been looking at getting?

I bought the grill off a friend on here 'SNH' but it's literally just been painted in high gloss paint.

Carbon wrapping is the way forward though. Also the window surrounds are called wind deflectors and the best make to go for are Heko - have a search on eBay! :)

Ive got egr + dpf delete plus stage 1 shark map on my 07 vrs.

get 51mpg daily and have done 36k since having it done and never looked back!

Cars on 148k now and despite my normal suspension troubles the engine is still happy!

Suspension trouble? Not the rear tyres wearing on the inside is it?

Whilst the DPF and EGR were mandated to help save the planet - I wonder how many cars have been scrapped due to these bolted on emission solutions to older design engines, PD for example   . Yet remove them both and map out and the Engine (so car) lasts years longer.

nope, ive nearly replaced the entire front end now and yet it still knocks on some bumps and rumbles on pore surfaces.

May even have a rumble coming from my gearbox. Need to get it in so the lads can have a good look at it.

save the planet yes, but doing it to mine has reduced my fuel consumption by around 20%!
