Love it! I can see Skoda adopting as "Simply clever......for the sophisticated gentleman".

All i need now are some spare clothes in bags and I'll feel like the transporter.

Make sure the clothes are perfectly ironed and vacuum packed in a clear plastic wrap.

Some interesting observations as I'm intending to improve my reversing visibility (as I have dual din satnav on both my cars, Fabia 1 and Octy 3).

Number plate lights are 80 x 32ish on the Fabia but with small screws with special head (mini torx?)

45x25 cavity behind and about 60mm or maybe a tiny bit more between screws.

Whilst on the Octy is more like 72x32mm ( on the outer edge ) and not sure but some kind of plastic spring out mechanism I haven't managed to release yet. So no screws.

Not sure about the actual internal gap behind that for everything to fit ?

Can I just check if anyone has actually tried with the number plate cameras ?

So this is the only number plate one that has been mentioned so far -

Is it 3d printed around a basic camera and poorly sealed/waterproofed ?

I imagine the model 108 might work then but its 3mm wider than the other, not sure if it might work as its not really the right model.

No others more like the 2nd link ?

One thing I noticed a while ago and forgot to post, I have a VRS TSI and at any point if you hit the paddles they take over, even in drive.

Makes overtaking a lot easier, leave in drive flick down paddle and off you go.

I have purchased the first one, and it has arrived just yesterday.

One thing to notice is that the camera light does not come with the metal bulb holder, witch i had to get from the original light. Not a big deal, as it is done in under one minute.

I installed the camera with the light bulb in place, just to see if it fits, and it is about 95% the same size as the original one. It does have a small wiggle, but in all fairness, it comes with a double sided adhesive tape that should hold it in place and make it water proof.

I am planing to install the wires by the end of the week, and should be able to post some pics by then.

Regarding the 108, i would think it will not fit, as the inside edges are of a bigger size that the one i bought. Also, the mechanism seems a bit different.

You can however do some test by removing your light and measuring the hole.

For those who do not know how to remove the light, please have a look at the attached picture from the manual.

I believe the one JJC fitted is like Polo fitment, similar dimensions:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rc-HD-reverse-Camera-VW-Polo-Transmitter-Receiver-Parking-sensor-Night-vision-/182084316977?hash=item2a65122f31:g:-ykAAOSwPgxVOP7t

So that is basically more or less simlar to the 108. Maybe the 101 could be more compatible but then I've not had it out yet to work out any probelms with the gap.

The only one that is closer to 100% intended tot fit, is the one from ravest above, with clear lens, but I'm not inspired with confidence with the less than perfect fit and it looks like something someone cobbled up on a 3d printer. Mind you, who are we fooling they might all be.

Needs more competition in this area with octavia 5e/III guaranteed parts !

I prefer the more OEM look one like JJC has even if its a bit too big, did it fit well ?

Also do you need besite enabling camera in vcds to do anything else, there was some talk about the 12v ?

Why not just buy a license plate with camera? Or even better, why not buy the original from Skoda?

Challenge accepted and completed :)

The installation went very smooth, i got the power from the rear wiper, and did not have to deal with the 12v coding for reverse light.

After using the double sided adhesive tape the product was held firmly into place. No more wiggle.

By comparing both products, i can say that the only difference from the original one, is the metallic spring that holds the light, witch in the purchased product is made of plastic.

To answer norsko, i did buy a license plate and realized that is not worth puncturing the boot.

Also, in my case, i went to a dealership and asked about the camera, and they said that an original camera cannot be installed on my car ( possibly because in the octavia configurator you need to upgrade to columbus or amundsen to add a camera), and an after market one would cost about 500 EUR + labor.

And finally, an original camera costs between 100 and 300 EUR (for the high line) on ebay, and i got this at 10% of that cost.

Photo with the camera picture please. :)

How does your license plate lighting look like now? Isn't assymetric?

Image is good enough  even in the night.

The only two problems i have are:

 - cannot see the bumper in the video feed, it is covered by the overlay : Look! Safe to move ?

 - image is slightly to the right due to it's location

The illumination of the license plate is a bit asymmetrical, but something i can live with.

I edited the license plate photo to remove the numbers , but it reflects the real illumination.

Also, it would be nice to have the option to activate it without engaging reverse.

Looks good, as your camera is on the left I would have put it in the left number plate light position as then the camera would not have obstructed the light

John

I really don't mind the light issue, the plate is readable at night, and i wanted to have the camera as close to the middle as possible.

1) why wonder, actually check the dimensions might be an idea ?

2) I wouldn't anyway I'd favour number plate light option at this point because there is no actual benefit to removng the handle is there other than add camera ?

( I'd rather not personally, will it be as good as the original? ).

I have to say they really stand out on non dark cars.

Possibly a v2 I can imagine is you are going to remove and cover the lens and spray to colour code the car ?

I don't think it will be as bad on a black car though, just fit.

http://pages.ebay.co...8965522&alt=web this will not fit the MKiii as it is a clip in and does not have the bolts, though I have seen that there are add on back plates that you can get to let you use this type.

I have the original one and has missed the option to use it without reversing also.

This trunk handle camera seems a good choice with the sony CCD option.

Great viewing angle (like the original) and sharp picture, it's worth checking the feedbacks from the buyers.

Getting a bit off thread here...

Getting a bit off thread here...

Agreed, but this rear camera thingy is worth its own thread, lots of great help and suggestions.

Might even have a go myself.......... How do you get at the rear of/remove the Amundsen, my crowbar is a bit big........?

the connections for the camera are on the back of the bit in the glove box so no crowbar needed :D

John

Thanks John.

Now even more tempted...

I have a March 15 Elegance with Park Assist (Which I have never used) and Amundsen. When you have fitted the rear camera what does the screen show? I see different shots on this thread so would just like to clarify if you have the all round sensor display as well as the camera picture on the Amundsen?

Anything in particular to look out for? Problems?

I would most likely go for the Wi-fi option instead of trying to run cables, but is fairly straightforward to run the cables?
