Fave Driving Game?

Featured Replies

As a change to the "what CDs do you have in your multichanger" or "what colour vRS" threads, here's one for you...

For those of you in possession of a PC/Mac/Console, what (if any) is your favourite driving game (cars/bikes)?

I would say Trans Am on the spectrum just to confuse the younger readers (hello Jason!), but I won't....

Midnight Club II should be arriving tomorrow which looks like it might be fun...

How about Chequered Flag on the Speccy? :D

Other than that, probably Carmageddon...

Rob.

I can still happily spend hours playing TOCA 2. Hammering the saloon cars around the various tracks is a source of endless amusement to me.

Midtown Madness 3 is - albeit quite flawed - great fun, especially played online :D

TOCA on the PC was good too, although I suspect I only ever played the demo... Not a fan of rallying games (CMR, etc) - never had the patience to get into it and all that bl00dy sliding around! ;)

GP3's the mutt's nuts. Must get round to buying GP4 sometime (i.e. when it becomes a

I'd forgotten REVS ! - Loved it as the 'dynamics/physics' were great. You really felt the car move and could trim the line through bends etc. Basic graphics (for now) but hours of simple fun.

The original PC Indy500 was the same - and you could also set up some fantastic multi car pile ups

I got Grand Prix Legends which was hard to learn and it kept crashing (ha ha) so I've given up.

I have a game on my PC called "need for speed, porsche 2000"

It's got about 40 different types of porshce to drive from through their entire history, and each one can have "mods" bought for them which is excellent. On top of this, it takes serious skill to keep the cars on the road at speed as they all exude the classic porsche twitchiness when braking & accelerating around bends. It really feels like driving a RWD car. It was also a free hack, which was nice.

Loved GT 1 & 2 on PS1.

Never really done driving on the PC, maybe I should give it another look, too many FPS.

Xbox, umm Toca is nice, but I hate the flimsy DTM's. Colin McRae is cracking till it goes wrong, I'm sooo bad on gravel and mud, yet Ice and tarmac bring :D. Sega GT is okay, no it's good, choice of cars tune, GT1 less a bit...dislike how it auto adjusts competion to your tunes, but does them better...bigger turbo please!

To choose, I'd have to say GT2 on PS with GT wagon and lordy only knows what.

As an aside, games in general seem to be getting less addictive. Take an online role play game, 3-4 years ago it came out was great, not good eye candy, but good depth and a good few of us were hooked, thanks Breathe, Red Hot Ant and Bt forthe 0800 revolution. But since that day others havecome out, all great candy, but after a few weeks intrest wains...now is that old age, burnt the fuel for that genre or what?

Same goes for the doom, iguess, but half life brought it to the masses of FPS....spent countless unds on these rehased titles every few quarters...Really liked the Delta force line, just never followed the mission plans for an added 1 v 60 AI goons challenge, online again brings a new level. Rogue Spear is just too dam good online for words, rainbow six, god damit just shoot em...castle wolfenstien was quite good, again online, squad play is great till you cap somebody by accident...and the WWII US solider one, I played so much I fried my brain, again online beach assaults rocked, especially as a sniper behind enemy lines

Really liked the FPS genre over driving, even more so once online, there is somthing so very very much better about playing a real mind, one that knows, one that will entertain your every predictable whim and punish you for it....Yes okay I hide behind a Barret or Enfield, but thats the nature of my business.

Arh that was good...can see me on an install frenzy later tonight...

GT2 yes GT2 was good...is that back on topic?

And if were admiting to old things, then spy hunter on somthing and perhaps a sign of where I am today, sitting on the lounge floor for hours typing in the code for bommer attack (plane bomb landing strip) on TI 64, then play for 5 mins and get bored, swithc off repeat next day, was that the first reusable code example?

I can remember playing the demo - I think my best performance was getting round the first corner before crashing spectacularly!

re GPL

I so wanted to be able to do that game, but AMD Athlons and that game do not mix apparently !

At least I made it round a lap once !

Colin,

Agree with you re: FPS fun online, but that's reserved for PCs (mouse & keyboard can't be beat) - whereas the xbox is for more fun stuff that suits a gamepad :)

Ian had some game on the PS2 which was a barrel of laughs...

Basically we played TOCA2 (me for the first time) around Oulton park, I was in the lead somehow and decided to do a handbrake turn to celebrate the victory...only to be informed there was another lap to be had...oops, so decided to buy a copy for xboxas it was a good laugh.

Well we then moved onto somthing where you had to chase each other or another mode which was fun, this was crash mode!

You had to crash and cause as much damage as possible....fairly simple concept, hit what you can...

...

...

...

...straight through the intersection missed everything!

can't recall the name of it though, was a good laugh however, even at my expense.

metropolis street racer on dreamcast. updated one now called project gotham racing on xbox

That would explain my painfull night then, think that was the night I gave up installing demos!

ps

I think Jon TaviaRS had a game which was quite old, but also had great almost realistic dynamics, not so much eye candy though. But you could or the community could add course in, as such I think he had the ring in it...I could nver find a copy of the retail base copy though...it was old...

GT3 Concept car Edition... cant wait for GT4. Stuntcar Racer on the Amiga was also wicked;)

I still love GT3 on the PS2. Got loads of cars, all tuned up, but still the Castrol Toms Supra does the biz, although the Tickford isnt bad, but then nothing beats the Lotus F1 car.

I would never bother with driving games on a pc, it doesnt have the presence of a 32" widesceen with sound running through the (seaparate) sorround system.

Andy

GTA Vice City on PS2. It's the only one I can do (but the kids show me up- even the 5 year old) but I used to get along ok-ish on Ridge Racer.

I refuse to allow that game space in my house, for me or my daughters.

Colin : F-Zero?

Andy - XBOX on a 32" screen with surround sound is very good :) Still think Halo would be better if I could hook up a mouse somewhere though :D

You can do this with GP3 on the PC. Load in loads of tracks, assuming you have the right "add-ons" ;). I think I may even have the Ring downloaded - I'll check when I get home this evening. There's some nice fantasy tracks out there as well, but for us die hard GP fans, the original tracks are still the best (Spa being one of my favourites).

can i ask why? (not having played it?)

I think when it was released there was a big hoo-har about the violent content / swearing / etc etc. I've never played it myself, but I think it was deservedly given an 18 certificate so only mature sensible gamers like us Briskoda types are able to play it.

The game is very violent and you get to steal cars, beat people up and steal their cash, pick up hookers and then chuck them from moving cars etc... my kids can handle it, they live in Croydon.

Rage racer and GT 1 & 2 on the PSX.

All the Lotus games on the amiga , oh and supercars (the top down view one) , but I think the one that gets the crwn would have to be GTA vice city.

I know its not a pure driving game but it is so much fun
