Fave Driving Game?

Featured Replies

Just bought Indycar Series for the PC -- what a missed oportunity that is -- really fast, quite challenging 200mph + with another car 5" from you.

But the overall picture leaves you wanting more -- yes you have the garage and you can tweek the settings, but you have no way to compare - no telemetry.

But the most annoying thing is - NO MIRROR'S -- how the hell are you supposed to know when someones gaining on you ?? -- oh yeah the spotter tells you as they are about to pull past - Great.

Overall I would give 5/10 -- It's a shame Codemasters have not kept up there usual high qualty with this product --- I can't see there being Indycar Series II -- but if they do -- it will need to be much, much better

An old game I used to really love on the Amiga was Indy 500, great fun driving the wrong way round on the first lap and trying to get all 20 cars to crash in one shunt!

On the PS2 I find GT3 pretty good, I love the driving and tuning of the cars, but the actual racing is pants. All the cars go round in a big bunch - and I hate the way you bounce off the cars/scenery.

My current favorite is Burn Out 2: Point of Impact - its a really racing game, loads of fun, with the focus on speed. There's a special section of the game where you have to crash a car and try to cause as much damage as possible.

Got good reviews when it came out, but it's pretty difficult to find. I eventually found mine pre-owned for

There's nothing beats driving against other human beings.

An EXCELLENT PC driving sim with very good multiplayer capabilities is "Live For Speed". It's only available over the web, there's FWD, RWD and 4WD cars. All can be "set up" like your GT type games. It's far more accessible than the likes of NASCAR 2003 (which, as mentioned above, is what our league revolves around) because you're not jumping straight into a 800HP 2.5 ton beast... Only downside is that it does require a ton of PC horsepower to run adequately - the level of physics modelling is silly, even down to tyre wall flex!!.

Enjoy,

Mark

Definatly an excellent game. I've got it on the 'cube and it's great multiplayer in either racing or crash mode. Especially with a couple of wavebirds (the 'cube's wireless controller).

It's just come out in the platinum range for the PS2.

No licenced cars but top-notch arcade driving.

I can concur with Marks views on this program -- I don't think it's going to far to call Gran Turismo for the PC -- by far the best physics of ANY PC driving game -- although broadband and fast PC a must - download is 140Mb

Well despite my Xbox having a paddy...TOCA II is getting quite favourable...

That said the GT racer thats coming looks very complex and feels fairly good...will definitly need analogue controls for really good times/feel.

...racing 6 wheelers MACH's is wierd, I guess that's what a furby feels like then.

Only kiding.

TOCA 2 is excellent. Can there be anything better than flying around Mount Panorama in an Aussie V8 Supercar? :drive:

Currently on around 80% complete and i've had it less than 2 weeks ;)

Im struggling to get past 50% with those silly jaguar challenge things.. :o

GT3 \ GT3 concept, logitech driving force pro, heaven....

(until GT4 at least)

GT3 ps2 for now:)

GTR pc... immense.. poss the best ever..:D

PGR2 Xbox love it...

Not tried GT3, must have a go one night, using that wheel will be a joy over the "controllers" :)

I like TOCA II for the semi belivable AI, in that they still brake where they are supposed to...but do they...I have seen quite a few latebreakers, mostly as I spin off seeing them go past laughing...but they give as much, more than you can.

Of course it's two things, simulation and experince. You can't configure the car...but the driving is quite good and perhaps a tad physical if your to physical, which you can't be...

That said the GT that Paul is refering to is simulation heaven cubed. No console will get close to the technical ability of that or the live for speed title could manage. Beauty of patches and mods that the consoles would struggle to manage. That said the GT1/2/3/4 series is good for models + venues and ability to alter most settings. :D

Hence real/unimplemented AI is best again, as it is in many other genres.

Gues what I've just downloaded.

Stunt Car Racer of the Amiga.

****ing class :D

Control = Go

Space = Turbo

Arrow keys = left & right

Up arrow = reverse

dwn arrow = reverse turbo

OK Control does not = GO.

Can't find the accelerator. (So thats what I've been doing wrong all this time)

What about Outrun - used think that was boss when I was a nipper even had it for the Commodore 64!!

... played this on an Arcade classics thingy the other month. Really really bad, but kept me amused when I was 11 !

For those of you in possession of a PC/Mac/Console' date=' what (if any) is your favourite driving game (cars/bikes)?

All the various Lotus Turbo Challenge's , and Super Cars 2 (top down view) on the Amiga

The last of the ridge racer games on the PS1 , Oh and Gran turismo I&II (not played three)

Enjoying PGR2 on the X-box as well.

The only driving games I enjoy enough to remain on my PC are:

Grand Prix Legends

NASCAR Racing 2003

F1 Challenge 99-03

The first two I play for the online racing and the last one for the numerous mods that have been made for it.
