It's the sheer upside-down attitude of the thing plus (as has been said) the fabulous music- it got my daughter into Squeeze, which can't be a bad thing!

I agree it's sexist and violent, but then so is real life, sadly. At least GTA VC is tongue-in-cheek and I think it actually pokes fun at the gangsta lifestyle.

But isnt that the point. Life doesnt have to be like that, and the more we accept it does, the worse it gets.

It may be OK for adults who can fully realise its only a game and understand it fully, but kids dont.

I seem to remember the outcry (and rightly so) about the James Bulger case.....and please dont tell me Thompson and Venables never came into contact with any violent material in their lives.

I know this thread is about games, and I am sorry to divert off, and you may well think I,m wrong and being over sensitive. But the game is rated 18 yes? So why allow under 18,s to play it?

You can tell my girls that "Flipper" or "Lassie" are only films, but watching them can still affect them making them upset.

Andy

Back to the thread.

What was gt concept like, as from what ive heard the cars are few and lame, with little tracks. Does anyone know if its on the platinum range?

At the moment my favourite car is the impreza sti v6 in white with white alloys, with around 400bhp.

Has anyone had problems with tyres? i use soft tyres with a longer life as im finding the tyres wearing down completely after 4/5 laps, while I cant pit as the other cars are very close behind. What is the strategy to save on tread apart from softer braking and less severe steering.

What race can you win the tickford falcon on? Is it one of the endurance races?

Personally If i had children i wouldnt let them play vice city till they were 15.

Id probably buy them a car to fix and learn about, something that I always wanted when I was younger and never got.

OK, nobody seems to have mentioned The Getaway.

My brother's addicted.

ok,

go grab yourself an xbox,

get started with midnight2 and collin4,

cause real soon the driving game to end all driving games is coming

and its xbox only:

Project Gotham Racing 2

I really cant wait to drive that enzo...

Jon, we did this to death already in this thread. There's a link in there to a site full of humorous names.

(Sorry - a little off topic).

my mum taught them when they were in care after the bulger incident.... two little ******* yes.. but their basic problem was a lack of parental interest/ love. did meet one of them forget which.. but wasnt told i had till atfterwards.. just seemed normal gobby scouse kid in need of a right good kicking - just like every other street toe rag who spends all their time located outside the spar smoking. (ironically not inside beating the ****e out of people on a PS2 - unlike most of us geeks.)

I think ultimately humans, particularly males, have a certain amount aggression that just comes from our primitive instincts. If the outlet for this is knocking seven shades of stuff out of animated sprites rather than toddlers, I think it's a good thing.

Maybe that's why all the little sods have PS2s in their "prison cells"...

Well, I had Midnight Club II sitting on my desk when I got in this morning - am looking forward to getting home and giving it a whirl :)

Only

Wasnt the first project gotham racing pretty poor?

I dont have an xbox, but ill buy one later when they go cheaper, just for the cd jukebox feature with the trippy colours, i was literally blown away when i saw it.

You will love midnight club 2 i promise you. Wait till you get the 1971 bestia. The game starts off with a pretty slow car, but as you win other cars in the game they get faster and faster. So you learn how to handle the speed of the cars, and i mean FAST.

First car is based on a mazda 323 turbo 4x4 with a whaletail on the back, next one is an integra type r and after that an is300 i think. Only problem is that they didnt get the car liecense 's from the manufacturers like gt3. So the cars have false names and design is altered slightly. I dont see why manufacturers dont like seeing their cars smashed up?

The first map is LA, drive down the reservior overflow and hit the nitro!

Vice city was my favourite game for a long time until midnight club 2.

I have to say that unless games are able to beat GT3 with the cars tunability and lifelike effects, they dont stand a chance.

I mean its OK being able to change the look of the car, but actually making a difference to its handling and performance is something else.

Andy

GP3 has it all on PC. All the suspension and aero settings you could wish for.

Never played it, but I like the realism of the cars in GT3 being mostly real, and more car like than F1 like. Even different driven wheel configs make for a different game.

Yep, and when i play around with them, the car either drives like it has glue on the tyres, or spins off at every corner :D

when do you lot play all these games then? Are you playing now, and typing on here with the other hand?

The key to succesfull tweaking on any game that allows it -- is 1 mod & run for a few laps,if its good keep it and move to next adjustment - if its rubbish - go back to standard, can take ages - but usually works.

I have joined V8 Thunder.com -- which is an online racing community, MrkyMrk is one of the Admins on that site - and joined as a result of seeing the site on his sig -- it uses Nascar Racing 2003 -- with a few adaptations to allow for ASCAR rules.

Unfortunately to race I need to get on the Sierra server -- which tells me I must download the patch....all 16MB!!!! of it - -definately one for my broadband connection, which goes live next week(I hope, please, pretty please)

Not as often as I used to, Nick. Slightly off topic - I have jsut re-discovered Transport Tycoon. Now if ever there was an addictive game, that was it. Now my son's into it as well. Thankfully he has his own PC!! :D

Yup, with GP3 if I'm going to start fiddling I'll go into practice mode and do a few laps with each setup. After a while you get used to combos of settings that you should move together. So, for example, if you take rear wing off you normally need to up your 5th and 6th gear ratios correspondingly otherwise you just hit the limiter. But you also need to think about taking front wing off as well otherwise the car gets very tail happy. You learn a lot about this stuff from just playing!

(Can't say its translated into me driving a road car any better, but at least I understand what's going on underneath me!!)

:D

ooh transport tycoon -- I loved that program -- if only I could translate running a $Multi Million company into real life....The last time I played the game,it was getting a bit out of hand - I could change my entire fleet of trucks, trains, planes every 6 months -- and still be making a profit of between $3,000,000 & $5,000,000 --- if only it was that easy :D

Yeah that's the sort of thing - drop the wing, lift the ratio's,move the brake balance -- always have to remember to save a base setting tho - nothing worse than messing up and having to start again

Getting close to the magic 1000, Dave!! :D
