Will the Bolero be able to be upgraded to use SmartLink?

Is week 22 when the OS is to operate SmartLink is released or is that when they start building cars with SmartLink already installed.

  • I have sent an email to Which about this see if they can add some clout. Might be worth trying whatcar as well as it is their car of the year and all that.

  • You know what... You're right Ollie. The Fabia is a fantastic car nevertheless and I'm going to put this aggression/frustration aside and look forward to it! My car is being built as we speak! Yes I'

Hello all and greetings from Poland. Decided to register on Uk forum, as Polish is pretty much dead ;). As for Mirrorlink. I have a Fabia to be delivered to dealer on May 22nd. I recall it to be manufactured on week 18. And i got a real headache with this mirrorlink roumors, as I paid extra for Bolero radio and face possibility that it will be useless. How do you think. Will Skoda update alredy built fabias to be compatible with Android auto? (Btw which is in my opinion much better option tham mirrorlink). Cheers.

Welcome to the forum Miwost . I'm in the same position as you my build week is 21. There must be a firmware update or Skoda will have plenty of upset customers.

Hope so. Fortunately advance I paid is really low (less then 100 pounds ) so if worse comes to worst i will cancel my order. Though I really cannot wait for my new car so i would do this with true regret. They sell a model with no navi option and their competition has it in offer (clio, i20, mazda 2, polo, corsa, etc.). Resolving this should be among their top priorities.

I have an old HTC phone ( coal fired ) I had hoped I may be able to use Copilot with my new Fabia, currently in Germany awaiting shipment. After reading all the posts I think this is possibly a non starter. Looks as if I had better hang on to my Tomtom Joe

Holy cow!

I hope this is a firmware update. And not hardware.

I will be requesting fitment of this hardware from Skoda as part of an ongoing complaint.

I have tried the free trial of Sygic and it does not work with mirrorlink

Skoda is replacing MirrorLink with SmartLink - combination of MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Car - since CW22 (MY16). Info comes From http://www.skodacommunity.de/skoda-forum/skoda-fabia-iii-forum/98699-fabia-mj2016-smartlink-statt-mirrorlink/

Can you find out more information as to whether this is hardware or software?

As much as I don't like apple I feel for the users who are waiting for car play. They deserve the same connectivity.

I am very intrigued by this as this is what was originally promised. I hope this isn't old information before I got that official note that VAG had pulled out

I'm also disappointed with the mirrorlink in my fabia. Does not live up to my expectations at all, completely useless based of my tests so far. When I picked up the fabia I got a manual about smartlink, so hopefully it's merely a software upgrade away.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what was this mirrorlink-gadget supposed to do apart from using a smartphone as a gps?

One of my primary use cases would be to control e.g. spotify from the bolero, but the screen goes dark with an error msg as soon as the car starts moving. Also, I would like to use google maps instead of this certified gps app.

Has anyone tried to connect to SmartGate via the service app? According to the manual, there is supposed to be an open wifi AP (from the car's unit) to connect to, but I cant find it when searching for wifi networks, also I cannot find any setting to turn it on in the bolero.

According to this Skoda link SmartLink is compatible with the Bolero system, really keeping my fingers crossed for a firmware upgrade but I'll put money on it being available well after wk22 for us upgraders.

Sorry just realised same as like above, doh but still keeping fingers and toes crossed for an update to Bolero

Smart link is new. Brings mirrorlink (android) car play (android) and android auto (google) together. To plug your phone into the screen through USB. This allows phone functions eg music and navigation use able through the screen and speakers.

Smart gate is a WiFi connection for your phone to view car data (eg mpg and throttle position etc) to be viewed on the phone.

My only concern is it comes under the Superb tab - but let's hope it's just a firmware update!

According to that post from yeti owners its software!!! Wonder how long before they launch it to work with android auto.

Will be idea car (except not as much power as I want!)

I plan to raise matters with VW and technical support for Skoda to make sure mirrorlink compatible apps work (release the code to allow use while driving and get mirrorlink to authorise for safety)

OR

Find out if compensation (possibly equivalent to 3 years cost of the Sygic navigation)

OR

If radios are to be replaced with sat nav function I'd like one fitted to my car.

Doesn't seem fair for clients to spend on mobile phones to be compatible with the car, to find future features that were promised are not going to be useable

Did you get any information?

I took delivery of my Fabia last Friday and just this morning I called Skoda Sweden who does not want to help me any further but says I have to contact my dealer. I have presented him with two issues:

Mirrorlink does not provide what different dealers told me, that you can connect your android phone and mirror its content on the radio - it shuts off as soon as you start driving, so completely useless

Smartgate wifi is not installed. The swedish press release, as well as info on the UK and Swedish site, does not indicate you cannot get SmartGate on 2015 models, nor that you have to purchase any extra equipment other than the 6.5 inch Bolero radio. Instead all information points to that you get Smartgate wifi together with the 6.5" bolero.

My dealer had no clue what I was talking about but will contact Skoda to get more information. I think several people within the Skoda world has failed to understand how it all fits together in terms of market names (mirrorlink, smartgate, smartlink), software vs hardware requirements and options when building the car.

Skoda has to make sure all 2015 models with Bolero gets a proper Mirrorlink system and smartgate wifi setup, regardless if this requires software and or hardware retrofit/upgrade. People have purchased their car based on that these technologies would be present in  and functioning.

I don't know about Sweden but the UK brochure clearly lists Smartgate as an optional extra.

Smartgate is a option in Norway to. I ordered at my Fabia.

It is not mentioned at all as an optional extra in the Swedish brochure. How much was it in Norway?

1000 NOK, 1100 SEK and 85 £

Hi, I'm also from Norway. I have bought a fabia. When I ordered it so was smartgate and mirrorlink an option, but my dealer said that with mirrorlink, one has no use for smartgate,i also asked skoda Norway about smartlink them have not heard anything about it

That was strange. What dealer? When did you order and do you have any build week yet?

Here it how it looks like in Poland.

1. Smartgate is extra paid (around 80 pounds)

2. Mirrorlink is included within Bolero option - if you pay for Bolero, you get Mirrorlink.

Cheers.
