mirrorlink

Featured Replies

I am excited about mirrorlink and the integration of things I use on my phone into the car! And android auto once launched. However my nexus 5 is not supported. Very few are (Sony xperia z and HTC one m8 to name a couple available today)

Does anyone have any information about how to get the mirrorlink to work with a nexus phone from day one?

I'm looking forward to seeing what Mirror link can do but I doubt my ageing Samsung Galaxy S2 will be compatible either.

My Lumia 830 isn't compatable... But it might be when Windows 10 drops!!! which will be before I get my Fabby III so YAY!! :D

The impending arrival of my Fabia could be just the excuse I need to get a new phone. I hope the S5 is compatible.

I'm not sure that the s5 is, it may be with lollipop but it won't work with kitkat, and depends on the software on the bolero head unit :)

Surprised to hear the Nexus 5 isn't supported, it's a pretty recent handset. Any idea why?

My understanding is that Mirrorlink works on all Android devices.. as does Smartgate.

You need to be on the latest version of Android + you need to download the Drivelink app from Samsung Apps or Google Play store..

That should be all you need..

Your understanding is IMHO wrong. See https://cert.mirrorlink.com/ProductListing/ for compatible smartphones (limit search to SmartLink version 1.1).

I have a Samsung SIII and it works fine on it.. there are plenty of videos on youtube showing people connecting Samsungs, HTCs, Sonys, et al.. working with the mirrorlink app in Skodas, VWs, BMWs, Hondas.. etc..etc.. and some cars seem to update the refresh a little faster than others, but it still works.. the official mirrorlink site is quite slow at updating what is currently compatible and what isn't..

Take it from the Skoda website.. Smargate and Mirrorlink compatibility..

Supported Devices
smartgate-devices.jpgiOS devices (version 7 and higher)

Android devices (version 4.0 and higher)

Note:

Restriction for Android 4.3 and higher: Mobile Data are not available when using the SmartGate feature. Up to 4 different devices with same application may be connected, as well as 1 user with four applications running.

Friends,

perhaps I'm getting old!  I've ordered my new Skoda Fabia Estate. In my opinion, all this new technology is way over my head. It's something I could live without.

However, something I'd be loathe to live without, is a lack of CD Player!

Can anyone confirm if new Skodas now come without a CD player?  Or is there a CD changer hiding in the boot? What's the point of surround sound, if no CD can be played?

Frank.

The new Skoda Fabia with the Bolero radio and Mirrorlink doesn't come with a CD player or CD changer. It has FM/DAB radio reception, USB link so you can play music from an MP3 player or smartphone such as an IPod or from a memory stick, it's got an SD card slot which you can store music on and has Bluetooth streaming, again from a smartphone or iPod/iPad.

You may be able to get a lead that will allow you to plug a portable CD player into it via the USB port but I can't confirm that. Looks like you're going to have to do some downloading on a PC and put your music CDs on a memory stick or something like that as it ain't going to let you put a CD in.

Gazbull17,

thanks for your post. I was dreading that news!  I do have an MP3 player plugged into my current car.  Now I might need a portable CD player?  Are they any good?

I'm annoyed to say the least, it isn't as if I'm expecting to play cassette tapes!!  DAB radio is a good function, but what the reception will be like in Pembrokeshire, I don't know. my table top DAB radio can play all BBC digital stations available down here.

I just hope my PC doesn't die, with all the extra work it needs to do.

What would fellow members do?  Use an SD card, or a couple MP3 players which can store hundreds of songs?

Frank.

External memory storage would be the best if you have lots of CDs, you could put all of them on and still have memory space for more if you buy them.

They're relatively cheap for a 500GB version or you could get a memory stick which will still hold quite a few CDs then as you get sick of what's on there you can just delete and add others.

WOW, i had not even thought there would be no CD player, i simply assumed its sitting their somewhere, given the average age of the fabia drivers i see are around 'bus pass age ' then do you think Skoda are aiming a tad high with their target demographic, most have only just embraced CD's !

Not sure why you need a CD player Frank.. you can copy your CDs into MP3 format and store them on an SD card or a USB memory stick - as soon as you connect either you can have all your music available to you through the touch screen.

I've just ordered myself a class 10 64Gb SDXC card for all my music which I will transfer to it.  I will probably leave it in the slot permanently and take it out when I have the car serviced.  I just have to re-rip all my CDs again into the highest quality I can, as space is not an issue, that won't be a problem - just time consuming - but I have several weeks before the new car turns up!

And don't worry about DAB reception.. DAB is pretty good in most areas these days, plus you still have FM/AM available through the sound system, I checked when I took a Mk3 for a test drive a few weeks ago.

I say Get Ripping and leave the CDs at home.. then you can keep your USB slot free for charging your phone if you need to, or a separate Sat Nav should you want to.. also an SD card uses far less power than a CD player and besides every pot hole and speed bump you hit will cause the CD to skip around, not good!

bus pass age - cheeky! :p

Nexus 5 WILL work once they release android auto.

Cars plus phones are regulated. A lot won't work because of simple software and a lot won't work because they haven't been confirmed to be safe to use in a car.

Samsung S5 isn't on the list.

There is a long wait for apple to be compatible.

I'd like to know if there's an app available for nexus 5 that will provide functionality with mirror link.

I'm sure that the SD card would be the best way of getting music in the car. Lots of storage and no software issues like a phone or USB stick could. Plus will free up the USB port for other devices.

I also note the surround function doesn't work with DAB. Will look into this once I've got the car.

You are right... and wrong. So far very few devices worki with Bolero as It requires MirrorLink 1.1. I can confirm HTC One M7, M8 and Mini 2 work as I have tester them by myself. But due to limits set by Skoda  that enable only certified apps ranking while driving for me MirrorLink in Bolero is unuseful.

Hello SkodaDTI,

thank you for your informative reply. Er, 64GB SD card, I'm assuming it'll hold a zillion songs? I also take your point about highest quality!

As you can tell I'm not too technical. Does the music have to be transferred to the SD card, in one go, or can it be done in stages?

Thank you, and fellow members for your kind help, for a geezer like me. By the way, I ain't got a bus pass - but a rail card would be nice! :)

64Gb will hold plenty.. you'll fit thousands of tracks into that amount of space seriously.. and you probably won't get through them all unless you're driving non-stop around the coast of britain several times over.. you can copy your mp3s to your SD card in stages, or all at once, it's up to you.. do 5 or 10 albums at a time, or just the 1 - it doesn't matter..  the card is dead easy to put in and take out inside the glovebox.. its just the same as on a Digital camera.. just push it in the slot until it clicks.. to remove push it again it and it will spring out.. just remember to take it out when your car gets a service.. don't want some dodgy mechanic swiping it!

Currently so few apps for mirrorlink as well as phones. Good job I didn't bother jumping on the bandwagon so soon.

I'll wait until android auto is here and I can then use this function!

Ah! My S2 is running Lollipop. Is that all I'll need?

Oh man I'm so confused. I have a moto g running android 4.4.4 will that work? And have I just signed up for a £15000 car that doesn't have sat nav in there?

Just pop in to the dealer and try connecting to a showroom model, it's probably the only way you're going to find out before you get the car.
