Apologies I post the 230bhp as a new topic as I didny see this doh!

Anyway not impressed a bit let down if I'm honest, they can't make the vrs much faster as it would take from the GTI I've been told but seat Leon Is what 280bhp and the golf gets 4x4 this latest update should have at least one of these to make me interested, and for another grand, sorry they need to work harder than his edition , anyway just saying

Wonder if the configurator has a sister, could be popular going down as often as it does.

  • Well here she is !  Over the moon with it.   Missing roof rails though and have been told that they should have been there and to await a bulletin from skoda about them ( mind you i like it without

I'm not sure I agree with you here.

The cars listed, whilst on the same platform, are quite different. The Leon and Golf are fantastic cars, however I need the rear room and boot space so rules both out.

The VRS TSI standard is a quick enough car and still able to crack 0-60 in around 6 seconds and in real world wouldn't struggle against the aforementioned cars until you start hitting 100mph+. I'm not talking 0-60 here, I'm talking real world performance.

I do agree that a 4x4 VRS would be a major seller, I for one would buy one. Skoda though have decided to give the Cupra engine and 4x4 to the new Superb instead, who knows, that may come to the Octavia in time, for now though both the 230 and standard are cracking cars that can cover a huge array of needs largely centred around space/practicality and in these areas, they are amongst the best in class my humble opinion. I mean come on, my VRS has more boot space than the latest Ford Mondeo Estate and mines the hatch!

I reckon the vRS 230 is a precursor to an official performance pack offering for the regular vRS model.

I do also reckon that Skoda will likely in time bring out a vRS+ model that will likely get either the 265 or 280ps Cupra motor and VAQ diff possibly as a last hurrah for the Mk3 platform.....I dont think we'll ever see a 4wd vRS though certainly not in the Mk3's lifetime

I would quite happily pay the extra just to get the differential as lack of traction often let's down my car when trying to power out of a slow corner if its not bone dry. Where as my friends cupra even with the extra power doesn't seem to struggle as much which I find really impressive

But a cupra just doesn't have the load space I need so that's a no go. The octy is probably the only estate with such a good combo of performance, space and value

The 280 Cupra boys are still having their issues with traction though, only have to read a few of the posts on their forum.

Not saying I'm disagreeing as the tech largely works, however I've just had to learn to drive the car a little differently and not treat the go pedal as an on/off switch, not saying you do by the way, just find stepping back a little and building up the power makes for better forward progress.

Skoda have the answer to those wanting more go and traction, their bigger car in the form of 2.0 TSI 280ps 4x4 Superb.

Job done.

Don't think the Superb will match the Octavia in the bends though, that extra wheelbase isn't kind to the handling in my experience.

The Superb 4x4 handling will really have to be bad then because the Octavia is no Fiesta ST.

(3-4 " / 75-80mm can make a big difference in so many ways!!,

but then its all a bit academic at UK NSL's,  they all get around corners.)

No it isn't, however please try and get 5 adults in comfort plus 590 litres min of boot filled and still be able to get to 60 in 6 seconds whilst being able to achieve good in gear acceleration in an Fiesta ST,...... :D

I had the latest Clio RS 1.6 turbo RS edc (for 8 months) - (quicker to 60 than the ST and just as able in the bends if driven correctly) and my TSI VRS is just as able as covering ground as the Clio and a Fiesta ST for that matter, if you know how to drive of course  :D

People looking at the VRS 230 surely would be looking at it for many reasons and not just performance like, space, practicality, to name but a few, and in this area the ST ain't great!

People looking for a small pocket rocket then yeah, I agree the Fiesta ST is great,....

It all depends on your needs and for me and many others a VRS TSI 230 or even a stock one for that matter would tick as many if not more boxes than the ST?

Try putting the same people in the bigger / spacier Superb then, and have the pace and added safety of the Part Time AWD.

Do you really get 0-60 (62)  in 6 Seconds in a 220 - 230 ps Octavia 5 up with Luggage.?

No not really do you, and why would you try.

It was something I noticed every time I jumped from the Octy mk2 into the superb mk2 when we owned both , the way the Superb turned in and held its line could on occasion be quite unsettling . The Superb was very unrewarding to drive in that manner much more of a cruiser but then I was also unconvinced by the old 3.6 model, nice engine but not really best suited for the Superb.

But Skoda want a flagship model and it fits the bill .

I was talking about a All new 2.0 TSI 280 4x4 Superb.  but if Skoda have built that with not very good handling,

what hope would the Octavia vRS taken to the same as the Leon Cupra 280 or Golf R 296, without a bit more engineering

or AWD.

Yeah I'm sure they are, its a lot of power for two front wheels but every little helps. Of course you are right with using the pedal as an on off switch. A sure fire way to torch your front tyres in the vrs and get nowhere fast :-) I bet with the remap you have to be even more careful

its the wheelbase that caused it , a long car is a long car

Very true,  Audi RS6 are such a liability.  Ask David Beckham.

It can be hard to get the power down if you just floor it off the line, as expected, but once you are moving even a little the diff sorts out any torque steer (ive had none so far and am currently running winters). I get a few spins again cos of the current tyre i have on, but the diff is very good at getting the power down... will be much better with summer rubber on.

There is a Seat Cupra Leon ST 280/DSG on Autotrader today with a £30,000 asking price.

At least there are choices now at Octavia Hatch / Estate size with some amount of proper go.

The Golf R Estate looks like a good solution to Length, Space, Handling / Traction,  just splashing the cash is required.

Direct Competition from Skoda using the same components but costing less is unlikely anytime soon.

Try putting the same people in the bigger / spacier Superb then, and have the pace and added safety of the Part Time AWD.

In response to your second part, I have and managed to with ease (GPS verified), however in fairness my VRS was kicking out 248bhp/268flbt stock (results across two separate dyno's before you ask)

Very much so, however and to be honest, I went for more in gear shove in the remap and real world useable power band so happy with it's 0-60 time, in gear now it's in another league!!

Telboy5,

it would be good if you could make the RWYB at Santa Pod on Saturday 16th May.

Seeing how your car goes and getting times would be interesting.

There is a get together of Fabia Mk2 vRS owners and others,

and Mk1 Owners & others also meeting.

There are threads in the Mk1 or 2 sections and the more the merrier.

It would be interesting to see how a standard vrs pulls a quarter mile vs a remapped one.

George, hmmm tempting.

If you're ever in the Bournemouth area, please give me a shout, happy for you to take a go in my car, although please wait until I fit the summer tyres back on as winter plus all that power don't mix that well  :D  :D

It certainly would be, APR have some interesting timed results for their MK7 GTI,...

Thanks for the offer,

there is a member here with a Golf R down your way that i might get a chance to visit when i am down that way.

let us know what your times are with winter tyres on because in the real world you might want to use your power not only on sunny summer days.

I have driven a few Octavia and similar but also more powerful engine VAG vehicles,

i know how they go and the pace they go or 0-100's when you start any time you want to go.

Dynos print outs with a car strapped down,

and also standing starts when you want are always interesting,

but the Strip can show some interesting tales of the times.

Not really like getting on a slippy road with some diesel and spillages is it.

?

Are tyres the modification that has you getting the power down and good traction, or have you other mods

on the car?

0-60 of 6 seconds with 5 up and luggage is quite an achievement in a Front Wheel Drive car,

True, plus the colder air should help the times!!
