And this is the problem, now that the brand doesn't have to try any more to win fans with superior customer service and obvious competitive pricing, it does seem they are slipping a bit despite continually being near the top of surveys (again, the cynic in me doesn't quite believe this).

I'm hopefully benefiting from the shocking position of SEAT customer service on the surveys and the huge efforts they are now trying to make to catch up at last, partly due to the recent success of the Leon. Haven't got any complaints so far to be honest, but if I do upgrade to a newer model of the trio then I may go VW for the residuals and the expertise of the 3, which I've come to realise is a bit lacking with SEAT. This isn't a critism of them per se, but more because of the much lower numbers of Miis about. According to a seemingly knowledgable technician, the sharing/passing of technical information from VW to Skoda and Seat isn't quite as instant and transparent as one would believe as I recently found out when asking about a PAS software update.

the pricing was one of the factors that led me away from skoda to Hyundai last month, and lack of action by sales staff when I spent 10-15 minutes looking round the new fabia outside there showroom door which wouldn't open

the other was the amount of options I would have to add to get what I wanted (to match the equipment on my GLII) which then ment factory order and long delays

Yes agree with all the options to suit. Makes a ridiculously priced Fabia [emoji107]

As I've said, driven the new Fabia SE, 1.2 Turbo and my opinion is, looks ugly, it's bloody stupid to put a touch screen in the car including the base model and not having a satnav (considering the nav is a option on the Citigo) the centre cup holder below the radio screen thing (sounds stupid but will get annoying after a while, especially those who drive a lot of miles on business) is in a stupid position, the gear stick get's in the way in gear's 1 3 & 5 so you have to awkwardly reach over to get a drink out of the holder, the brakes grind, the turbo suffers from awful lag and the car won't let you select 5th gear at 30mph half the time despite the CItigo being able to do this, to be frank the new Fabia didn't deserve "Car of the Year" it just didn't, as much of a Skoda fan I am, there not getting any better to look at, perhaps to drive (excluding the Fabia) yes and the interior of the Fabia was okay IMO but the Citigo felt roomier than the new Fabia and I'd actually feel more comfortable making a 200 mile trip in the Citigo than the new Fabia

Agree [emoji106]

My Citigo is way roomier and pleasant compared to what my Rapid was. I felt so cramped in there even with the seat right back. Looked nice and the Sport seats were nice (harder than the Citigo) but just too closed in [emoji57]

Park the Citigo next to a Mk 2 Fabia and there is not a lot of difference, and most of the additional size is the bonnet.

Fabia mk2 is not for me at all. To me mk3 looks great from inside and outside.

Let's be pleased that all cars doesn't look the same. Otherwise it would be boring. ;)

My first car was a 1981 Mini. The Citigo is the closest I've come to it since in terms of fun driving.

You know I could not agree more with you. Just the other day I was thinking that Buck is very Mini like (proper one). Bags of character and from personal experience epic on the fun stuff!!

Mk2 fabia is a world ahead of the looks of the mk3 and the boxy mk1.

Just popped in to defend the Fabia!...  :moon:  :finger: .... :giggle:

Okay I'm an old fart and as a result looks and image are way in the past in favour of practical and sensible. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking you younger guys at all, there was no cooler dude (actally I was Hip!) than me in my time.

My Mk 11 Fabia 1.2 Tsi Elegance is a fantastic little car and believe me I've driven a lot since my first, an Austin A35!.

Having owned a Mk1 Fabia Elegance 1.9 PD followed by a Mk11 2 1.2HTP (70) I cannot sing the praises of my current car enough. I've owned it for just less than 3 years and love it as much as the day I bought it. All the bells and whistles such as Cruise, Climate Leather steering wheel, parking aid with graphics, Arm rest, sunlasses holder etc make it a lovely car to be in. The Turbo assist means it will really shift (more than what I need) and the 7 speed  DSG gearbox is simply the best Auto I've ever owned by miles!

As for the Mk111, I doubt I will buy one but it looks fine to me and in the old adage "if it aint broke don't fix it" I am so pleased they haven't changed the car too much from previous models. Sticking to a 'mould' has worked well for the likes of Merc and BMW for years.

What I have noticed is when I visit this thread there is so much enthusiasm for the Citigo compared to the many moans on the Fabia Mk11 thread it's like a breath of fresh air. This little Citigo must be one fine car. Good luck guys, forget VW and stay Skoda, you know it makes sense   ;)

That is one stunning looking motor even though I say in my above post I put practicality over style ;) . What a cracking looking car!

Test drove the Polo GTI today. Absolutely sold. Looks like I'll be going for it at the end of this year...

Driving home in the Citigo, felt sloooooow.

That's because it is in comparison lol. Glad you enjoyed it.

I know. But I drive both a 116d, and a 330D GT, with the 8-Speed BMW DSGs, and going back to my Citigo didn't feel anything like it. Nothing compares to the in-gear pull from the manual GTI, although it's a full second slower to 62mph than the 330GT I've driven, the Polo GTI feels the fastest car I've driven :)

But is the slowest round them corners ;)

On your test drive, did they actually chuck you the keys and let you rag it? I remember when I test drove the Fabia vRS they only let me out with a salesman who sat there looking not too impressed at any hard cornering or braking.

The guy came with me, but was more than happy - in fact, positively condoned - me flooring it, and seeing what it's like. :)

The way it should be done, take a car to test drive, see how it handles at hard accelerating (that is my eyes a safety feature as you sometimes need to floor it to get out of a situation) and a handling and brake test, you'll be more sold to buy it then

Camlep - excuse me if there is another thread somewhere which I haven't seen, but my order was accepted today for a new Polo GTI. I've requested March 1st delivery to get the new plate, but will be ready in February (current 14 week wait so I'm told). Suits me fine coming out of winter rather than heading into winter with a new car.

Wasn't sure if you had ordered one, were still ordering one, or simply spent too much tuning the 'go! :)

Camlep realised a while back how absolutely stupid trading the Citigo for a much worse car (the Polo) would be and decided he will keep the Citigo

Disclaimer - What was said was an assumption of what is going through Camlep's mind and not what he is actually planning to do [emoji14]

I'm sitting about 90% certain I'll go for it before the end of the year. Possibly when I get paid at the start of next month. Just weighing up pros and cons. Citigo is a sensible car for a university student. Sometimes being sensible just isn't interesting enough, though! :D Will let you know if I order it. Nice to see delivery will be ready for March plate! :)

You know it! Why trade for a GTI when you drive a Citigo VRS? ;)

I still love my Citigo, and still have it for a few months yet. It's always plenty of fun, especially once you're "up to speed" as it were - corners like its on rails. My wife hates driving it for all the reasons I love it, the connected-mark-1-Mini-ness of feeling the drivetrain at work through the car, the snappy gearchange, the exposed metal inside the car.

Funny you should say that, my father mentioned once that his current Up! was, in terms of driver experience, the closest he'd had to the original Mini. There's plenty of feel to the car.
