Fitting an underseat amp with columbus.

Featured Replies

Hello gents,

First post here!

I have a 63 plate Vrs with an aftermarket columbus radio, now I'm looking to upgrade the sound quality so want to fit an underseat amp.

I have got the in phase usw10 active amp, I have spliced into the high level rear speaker wires on the loom for the input, I have power to the sub.

Now, my question is, does anybody know which colour/labeled cable is used from the unit for the remote turn on/p cont?

Sorry for the long winded post, thanks!

Paul.

Frankly it is going to take a whole more than a more powerful amplifier (or even a sub-woofer which is I suspect what you are talking about) to provide improved audio quality in a vRS. I suspect that you would be better off installing masses of sound deadening material and perhaps higher quality speakers.

Having said that, no car is exactly an audiophile's idea of listening Nirvana.

I'll now try to answer your question rather than troll.

A Columbus has no remote turn on output.  You'll need one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381183541462 , or an equivalent, which you splice into the permanent feed and the CANBus wires. It then provides you with a switched feed.

Columbus (RNS510 in VW speak) pinouts are here: http://www.my-gti.com/529/volkswagen-rns-510-pin-assignments

Cheers Phil, very helpful and informative!

Will get a can-bus generator on order and see how I get on.

I'm just happy that my question actually made sense, after the first reply thought that I'd asked a daft questions!

Just shout if you need any more help. I've yet to fail to sort out any electrical challenges on mine so I'll do my best to help you with any problems you've got.
