gearbox plug removal tool

Featured Replies

Noticed that Skoda have put a sort of tamper proof plug on the gearbox (which is very thoughtful of them !!!) which is a splined sort of thing with a protruding bit in the middle. Anyone know where i can buy the removal tool  from?  And what gearbox oil is recommended for the six speed gearbox, I know it should be synthetic but not sure of what viscosity or anything..Thanks guys

I thought they had a torx type rather than splined?

Any ive seen its a tamper proof torx bit thats needed. I cant remember the size but i got a set off ebay.

So it's an M16 spline socket, Thanks guys.

It's m16 security spline bit. A normal one won't fit as it has the dimple

Revival, hope that's ok - does anyone know whether that stupid centre can be easily drilled out for an ordinary spline socket?

What a con.

I suspect it'll be unnecessarily hard steel and you'd have problems keeping a drill bit centered.

You could try carefully bending the centre with a strong tool, if it's soft you may be able to work it back and forth to break it off.

... or drill your existing bit!

Maybe a couple of flat screwdrivers wedged in opposite sides and pipe grips to turn them, even grips on any exposed part of the bolt.

Can you take a photo?
