Is there a way of disabling the start stop on my superb without having to try to remember to push the button to turn it off...pain in the arse....

I asked the same question when I had my VW Tiguan. The dealer didn't want to know but some of the forum members suggested it might be possible if you used VCDS or whatever it's called. I decided to live with it.

My wife has it on her Pug 2008 manual and restart is instantaneous but on my DSG Tig I found it almost dangerous as there was a second or two delay in restart.

I was told the reason the dealer wouldn't do it was due to emissions, it could put it into the next RFT band.

I'm going to ask my remap man if he can do anything about it and the seatbelt chime

I've seen the option on VCDS (on my dad's car) so it looks to be possible to disable with that. I was going to ask the other way, and ask if it's possible to enable as mine shows the option but isn't active and i didn't want to turn on and screw anything up!. :D

That makes sense as i've compared my option codes with my dad's and he has a 160 amp starter motor (from memory) whereas mine is 120 amp. I was curious as i have the same engine as his (CFFB) and have seen the option in the Central Electrics Module and thought hmmm.... lol

Stop start becomes active when the engine is warmed up and the electrical load on the car is low. When you come to a stop, put the car in neutral and let the clutch back up and the engine stops itself. The engine starts when you push the clutch down again. Not sure of the DSG behaviour as I haven't tried it... 

DSG on the Octy operates when you come to a stop with your foot on the brake , as you take your foot off the engines starts , on the Octy you can disable it with VCDS so I imagine you can with the Superb

They'll tell you anything won't they!? The car's emissions are tested as per when it comes out the factory. If you have a remap it doesn't get re-tested so disabling start-stop would have no effect.

I've driven a Touareg 3.0 TDI with the 8 speed auto box with start-stop. It worked flawlessly. Put your foot hard on the brake and the engine cuts out. Then lift of slightly on the pedal and the engine restarts.

 

I believe it works exactly the same on the DSG.

The drivers door must be closed.

The drivers seatbelt must be fastened.

The bonnet must be closed.

A speed of at least 4kmh has been achieved since the last time the engine was stopped.

A trailer is not connected.

 

Other influences...

 

The minimum engine operating temperature has not been achieved.

The charge state of the vehicle battery is too low.

The current electrical consumption is too high.
High air-conditioning capacity (high fan speed and/or big difference between the desired and actual interior temperature).
 
Other considerations...
 
If the vehicle remains outdoors for a long time in minus temperatures or in direct sunlight, it can take several hours until the internal temperature of the vehicle battery reaches a suitable temperature for proper operation of the start/stop system.
 
If the driver's seat belt is removed for more than approx. 30 seconds or the driver's door is opened during stop mode, the engine will have to be started manually.
 
After the manual engine start and with a manual gearbox the automatic engine shutdown can take place only when a minimum distance required for the system function has been covered.
 
When the engine is off, the system can automatically start the engine before the desired journey continues. Some possible reasons for this are:
 
The vehicle begins to roll, e.g. on a slope.
The brake pedal has been actuated several times.
The current electrical consumption is too high.

On the MkIII Octavia it is possible to check in the 'Status' menu where the car will tell you if the start / stop system is in operation or not, and if not why not.

Start / stop operation in vehicles with an automatic gearbox...

 

In compliance with the operating conditions, automatic engine shutdown / automatic engine start takes place as described.

 

Automatic engine shutdown:

 

- Bring the vehicle to a stop and depress the brake pedal.


- Automatic engine shutdown takes place, segment display shows START STOP ACTIVE or a check mark appears in the MAXI DOT display

 

Automatic engine start:

 

- Release the brake pedal.

- The automatic start procedure begins.

 

Further information on automatic transmission:

 

- The automatic engine shut down takes place when the selector lever is in positions P, D, S and N and in Tiptronic mode.

- When the selector lever is in position P, the engine remains shut down even after you release the brake pedal. The engine starts automatically by pressing the accelerator pedal or by moving the selector lever into a different mode and releasing the brake pedal.

- If the engine is off and the selector lever is put to the R position then the engine will start.

- If the gear selector is moved from position R to the position D, S or N, the vehicle must reach a speed of more than 10kmh before the automatic engine shutdown starts.

- There is no automatic engine shutdown when the system detects that the vehicle is moving due to a large steering angle.

- No automatic engine shutdown takes place when the vehicle is moving at low speed (e.g. during a traffic jam or when tuning) and remains stationary after pressing the brake pedal lightly.

- Automatic engine shutdown takes place if you press the brake pedal down with more force.

I have been struggling with disableing SS for a while now.

You cannot disable permanently SS. Well, you actually can (with VCDS), but it gives you a permanent warning on maxidot.

 

There are two ways to disable SS: temperature method and voltage method:

Now, these methods doesn`t work on facelift Superb. At least voltage method cannot be used. 

Temperature method probably can be used, but now the golden question, how?

 

What is the right coding to get both temperatures changed from -50 to +50?

This any use? Not my work, but I had it filed ready to try when my next car turns up

 

(1) Temperature Method
These instructions were sourced from the Golfmk7.com site. Grateful acknowledgement to the author "Allenlin" who has said that the VCDS tweak was developed on a 103TDI. Allenlin has produced a short video which shows that SS has been disabled (see the link below) I have implemented this tweak on my mkVII, and I can vouch that it works.

1. Enter 19-CAN Gateway


2.Click on Adaptation-10

3. From drop-down channel list select (1)-Start/Stopp Auntemperaturvorgabe-Minimaltemperatur (it's almost at end of channel list)

o    In New value box, enter 50 (default stored value = -50.0)

o    Click Do it! tab

o    Click Add to Log to save a copy of the change

4.From drop-down channel list select (2)-Start/Stopp Auntemperaturvorgabe-Maximaltemperatur (it's almost at end of channel list)

o    In New value box, enter 50 (default stored value = -50.0)

o    Click Do it! tab

o    Click Add to Log to save a copy of the change

No use. Older vehicles has an option Start/Stopp Auntemperaturvorgabe-Minimaltemperatur in VCDS dropdown menu with cangeable temperature values. Newer vehicles have only coding 002000. To change temperatures, you have to change the coding, but no sign of codes on internet yet.

I understand now, they making it difficult.

Hold on, Im almost liking it.....when im doing my town/taxi days.

I never thought I would "get use" to stop/start when I collected mine in June last year... but I now just ignore it and let it do what it wants... although were I live it does not get used on a regular basis (live in the country with open roads) 

 

A chap at work has a Volvo with it and he told me "just ignore it" so I did, and it is now second nature... They do say it can save 5% a year in fuel, a big saving for a taxi... not sure how true that is... 

Although I do not have SS I did for a month use the car as if it did have SS, so when I pulled up to some lights I would stop, HB on GB in N and push my Kessy off button. It made about four to five mpg difference. This only took place when the car was up to temperature and after driving twenty miles to the city where I work. I still when I come up to TL stop the engine when I know those lights will be off for more than half a minute.

Once you get used to how it works you can "sort of" control it... If I pull up at traffic lights in a line of traffic I put my foot firm on the brake, the stop/start kicks in.... Once I see the lights go to amber I lift my foot slightly the engine restarts and I am ready to go... 

 

If on the other hand I come to a junction and know I am only going to be a short time, I stop then lift the pressure off the brake a little, this keeps you still, but also keeps the engine running... 

 

It did take some getting use to but once you find the right pressure on the pedal it is second nature... 

 

This is mentioned in the handbook :)

S/S is a dreadfull feature in my Audi 3.0TDI, starting and stopping this lump rocks the car each & every time, this and extra delay when pulling away is vey annoying to say the least, I try to press "that" button now as soon as the motor starts.

 

S/S on a powerfull car is daft, you pull up to the line, see a gap and your engine stops, "great".   For the more fuel wary "eco" vehicles it makes some sense, but you should get the choice to enable it or not in the menu's.

 

I have tried perm disabling it, it appears in multiple section in VCDS, but I never fully cracked it.  It would be perm alarming in the MFD or reset itself upon locking, unlocking and startup.

 

Rant over..... :angel:  Keep pressing the buttons   ;)
