'Exhaust Workshop'

Featured Replies

We have a 08 Fabia. Estate, a little while ago admittedly we were dawdling along in traffic and the 'Exhaust Workshop' made its self known.  The error was quickly googled and as nothing major was returned in the results, the error has been somewhat dismissed as the car drove fine.

With an impending MOT I thought I had better take a look at things.  Some googling and stories from others gave me an inkling of the problem... the EGR.  So off with the engine cover and whilst looking at how the EGR comes off I saw this:

A quick visit to the dealer and they want £50-odd for the the assembly that this, and the other vac pipes all feed into from the various components.  This seems a bit un-necessary to me so the question here is if anyone can advise on if just the hose can be replaced or as I was wondering, if some sort of joint is available to splice the existing pipe together?

I do plan on modifying the engine cover to prevent this from re-occuring and a temp repair has been undertaken and proven to work as no re-occurrence of the issue has been seen in 410 miles over four days.

In that photo it looks like you might be able to just cut the hose where it's bust, chuck away the bit left on the EGR, and connect your 4cm shorter pipe onto there?

I'll have a look at that, thanks.  My only thought is will there be enough pipe to make the bend without it collapsing in on its self.

Yeah, it'll be fine.

how long until your MOT?

I had to replace the vac unit on my Roomster and as such I *think* I have a full set of those pipes somewhere in the garage.

I'll not be home to confirm until next weekend though.
