Front Assist not working - 4 repairs later :-(

Featured Replies

My car was hit in a carpark after someone decided that the handbrake didnt need to be applied and their car rolled backwards into mine (i wasnt even in ther car).

Since then i have no end of problems with the Front Assist radar.  The front bumper was replaced by Blade Skoda in Gloucester and the front assist has never worked properly since.  It has now been back to them 4 times, calibrated 3 times and on its last visit it had the Radar unit replaced.  As soon as i now turn the car on i get the "Front Assist is not avaialble" display on the dash which stays there for the whole journey.

I've contacted Skoda about this and its obviously something Blade Skoda just cant repair.  Has anybody else had problems with this sensor and what would the advice be as i dont want to spend more time dropping the car off to them for no reason at all.

Any advice or help here would be greatly appreciated.

Just get SUK on the case to make sure they do the job properly this time.

Well its finally been done.  Spoke to SUK and they chased with the garage.  Still took a couple more visits which is far too much to fix what should be a calibration of the sensors.

I love the car but if they can't fix faults or do repairs correctly then its the servicing that will make me question whether to buy a Skoda again.

TBF this is new tech and safety related. If the setup is not spot on and within the tight tolerances needed the system will just say it's not available rather than risk a problem.

This unit is a VAG part, and stamped with Audi rings IIRC, so your next car would not just be a Skoda but also Audi, VW, Porsche.......

We're the dealer technicians 'masterfit' trained?

Personally I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't standard on my car, I've never found it all that useful so far; annoying, confusing and occasionally alarming but not thus far of any great merit!

It can be a bit twitchy at times and has kicked in on a few occasions with scary warning lights with nothing in front of me at all, which confused the hell out of me and the manual doesn't actually show that particular warning light with the red car in the central display, it took about a year before the garage could even explain vaguely what it might be, sadly they said it was Adaptive Cruise Control, which is something my car definitely doesn't have. So zero points to Henry's in Glasgow for that useless piece of information...

It did forcibly apply the brakes once when someone braked suddenly in front of me ( town driving 30 mph limit) to turn left but there was no danger of a collision whatsoever. However, the Front Assist intervention was actually more dangerous as it was completely unexpected and losing control of the brakes like that coupled with the warning flashing up gave me quite a fright and made me actually lose concentration on the road. Maybe mine is over sensitive but I remain to be convinced that it is actually a safety feature from my experience of it so far. It was never explained properly to me how it worked when I bought the car and it seems like the Skoda dealers don't entirely understand the technology either if they can't explain what the warning light actually means and why it was coming on occasionally with nothing actually in front of me on the road.
