Diesel Engines

Featured Replies

so if i have a diesel for 12 years, and my neighbour has 9x new cars (changes them every year nearly) Are you saying that to produce 9x cars produces less air polution than running my diesel for 12 years? Or do we not care about that as it is not on our door step?     - Im all for a greener future, but the hypocrisy is ridiculous, Government needs to make cars manufactured to last 15 hard years + people can only buy 1 car per 10 years, that's way more effective than a few old diesel cars knocking about ... but ofc the Tories wont do that, as they wont want to effect the stock prices of their vested interests.

The issue is air pollution at certain times that it seriously affect some peoples ability to breath ie asmatics, old, young, where particularly NO reduces their lung capacity to a dangerous level.

It will just mean that dirty cars will not be allowed in to cities on those days.

there's too many of us anyway. and we live too long

  • Jobsworths and lowlifes spring to mind plus the claim of 29,000 early deaths without one shred of evidence.

  • That's hardly going to dissuade Councils  from forcing through changes designed to line their pockets under the altruistic banner of "doing the right thing for everyone/saving the Earth"   Round her

Sorry i just think its nonsense, and it wont make a once of difference. I bet you after these bans, the pollution levels will show no improvements. These red areas are just extreme congestion areas. Not to mention bar Europe, seem to be massive industrial areas (and massive world population areas), of which are the worlds highest China and America, but im sure its all the old diesels, because its easier to blame individuals, than massive industry that would effect the Tories shares.

There has been movement since 2013,

but the German Government are always going to be protecting their own Vehicle Manufacturers industry

before caring about the other nations or the Environment.

David Cameron will always assume the position with or without lubricants.

I notice the red areas are China the the USA, what percentage of their cars are diesel? Overall I suspect well under 20%

Who still produces Euro 3 emission cars?

In all fairness they are bespoke police vehicles that have 3.something litre ford tdci euro 3 motors fitted.

Really these Euro 3 engines in 15 Plate Police cars?

I think it is the buses, trucks etc that create more NO than the cars.

You have to see, and smell, the pollution in many Chinese cities to believe it, a smog blanket 100 or 200 feet thick you can see out of a hotel window.

Wonder what the French are doing with all their dervs

Doing ??? .What do you mean ,it'll be another EU edict the French don't like, so they will just ignore it.

We already have the most comprehensive system for logging vehicle registration in to Western Europe's biggest city ie London and this can easily be applied to those days when we do not want high polluting vehicles entering the city so if you do take your car in to the city on those still summer days you will get a £100 fine or whatever. and Paris is much smaller than London so they can implement the technology, as they plan, in the next 4 years to implement a low emission zone as we have in London and would expect to be rolled out to other major UK cities.

Could be a nice little earner like the Congestion charge and now the Dartford crossing is too.  Buy a hybrid/petrol car if you intend to keep it long term and go to the cities often it is suggested.

  • 1 month later...

Apparently according to SMMT figures, Diesel registrations down by 2.5% and petrol up by 6.1% so they both registered about 97K vehicles.  Also first time diesel cars stopped rising and actually fell.  Predicted that the trend is for petrol to outsell diesel from Q3 onwards.

Just in April 2015 they were saying as other were how sale of petrol was down lower than diesel sales.

but Diesel cars were continuing to rise and how 2 thirds of vehicles registered were petrol & 1 3rd Diesel.

(obvious incorrect because some must be neither.)

They spin numbers and they used to expect sales / first registrations to be high in Q1,  Pre April.

So lets see what happens in Q4 this year.

Then the biggest Group Buyer in the UK is Motability Finance, so these cars Bought by Motability Finance and leased affects the UK

Market and people are losing DLA HR Mobility Component or PIP, and Motability Finance purchases will really drop in the next 2 years.

Who buys car anymore?

With Value Added Tax at a huge 20% who want to take a several grand hit buying a car, just lease it.

So yes, register with Lease companies / Motability etc, no wonder tax receipts are so poor, taxed out of the purchase market.

The SMMT survey was talking about registrations and as we know certain UK concessionaires, and use to tactics to compel franchises to take registered stock even if the market is soft and their offers are far worse even than cars make in the same factory and just badge engineered.

Is that how you do it?  Many others still buy cars.

Somebody buys them even if that is the Charity Motability Finance, or a Bank or Financial Establishment,

or the Finance arm of the manufacturer.

Reason being someone owns them to Lease or Hire out, and then they sell at a later date.

Now more often the Biggest Motor Auction Organisation is Financing Dealers Stock on the Forecourt for them to sell

or Lease to the people buying or leasing.

So plenty buy cars, actually every car must sell to someone private or company.

New Cars and then as used cars.

As we know people and companies actually still borrow money from Banks & Financial Institutions and buy cars,

or use their own cash money earned and own them.
