Would it be possible to invade someone's track day and familiarise yourself with it?

Time is probably against me.

I have a month, a car in bits and a holiday to squeeze in with the family too.

 

Most likely I'll try to familiarise myself by staying out for most of the 30 minute qualifying period.

At least being near the back should make for some good overtaking opportunities.

Appreciated, but I don't expect people to travel those kind of distances.

It's a 30 minute qualifying session and a 40 minute race with one mandatory pit stop.

It's a long way to spend 20 seconds trying to get me back in the car.

 

For info, I think I can only get three people into the pits when my 40 minute race is on too.

Yeah could pretend to change the wheels and give the front screen a quick polish.

Baring in mind there are a lot of teams with Fox in the name out there, and that a fair few Brisky members are keen to help out and a few may even be driving at some point... I've decided to call the team "Brisky Racing".

Think it fits better.  This is where it evolved from after all.

39 cars registered for the Tin Tops.

That must include some reserves as it's a lot!

9 Fiestas in there too, so class C (Fiesta 2,000cc) is looking nice and busy too.

 

My car won't be completely finished, but the seat and drivetrain are in.

Still some weight to shed, but that'll have to come later.

 

Genuinely excited now.

Damo and me are both doing the test day at Donnington on Tuesday as we've never even driven the cars before.

Then 5 days later we race!

Chance to get used to the cars and track before the race.

 

Issue with (new) fuel pump in the morning.

Dropped tank and sorted.

Then electrical problem acting like a speed limiter over 4,000 - 5,000rpm (car revs to 9,000) so in total I did five laps all day, at best the first two corners with a car working correctly.

Such is life in racing! So much for learning the car and track before going to Donington on Sunday!

This was after turning up at 9am and leaving at 3pm, six hours.

 

We tried a number of things but just couldn't sort it.

Turning off the ignition cleared the issue, until you used the power for another 100m or so, then back to kangarooing on throttle as though it was short of fuel.

Borderline undrivable, so ended up limping back to the pits each time with other cars shooting past me.

We have a few days to sort it... otherwise it's looking like Donington will be a miss for me, which would be a real shame.

JDR are on the case, I hope they find it.

 

Damo had trailer issues and got there at about 1pm.

Fortunately his car is already set up for the Tin Tops and tried and tested so he could go out and do some laps.

The half a lap we did together his car seems a bit quicker in the corners and mine on the straights.

Possibly because mine used to run slicks so needs the set up changing a bit.  But lack of laps today meant no chance to play with it.

Shame you didn't get too much practice time, but at least these gremlins have shown themselves now rather than on race day

Does the engine/electrics have enough mass connections? Sound like missing mass cables or loose ones (even without hearing it   )
