Enabling both rear fogs on O2 FL & Yeti - success!

Featured Replies

Just a quick note to those with FL O2's and Yeti who may want both rear fogs enabling, or the fogs swapping over for use on the continent.

I managed to successfully enable both rear fogs on a FL O2 vRS yesterday for @ProfesorDeBuceo.

A big thanks to @Eddie-NL for confirming my thoughts on this.

You need VCP to do this, as it can interrogate and make the necessary infamous Byte 18 changes on the BCM which VCDS cannot do.

It also looks like cold diagnostics etc. can be turned off so that LEDs or HIDs can be fitted, but I haven't tried this part out yet.

Anyone requiring this doing, drop me a PM.

Well done.

I can see this becoming the next 'must have' mod for FL owners.

And perhaps a change from VCDS to VCP...

Mike Holroyd asked me if I would use VCP exclusively and bin VCDS, and the answer is a definitive no.

VCP is MUCH more powerful (and dangerous in the wrong hands), but the VCDS user interface and ease of use means that 99% of things I still do in VCDS.

I only use VCP for the controllers that VCDS still doesn't have label files for (such as 5F on the MQB) and for functions that VCDS cannot do.

VCP is much more up to date on newer platforms and controllers.

Have Ross tech ever said why vcds can't see byte 18,or is it deliberate because of the damage it can do?

I don't believe this is a fault of VCDS, I believe the byte is actually set as 00 by VAG rather than being hidden by rosstech.

This is probably because byte 18 can't contain enough information to cover all light configs. In PQ35 based cars, the light config is split over some 40+ bytes (48 iirc) which is much more information than byte 18 could ever contain.

VCP is allowing direct access to the eeprom to change each of these bytes. Until recently, you would need to manually find the correct byte in the eeprom and change it (this can be done in VAS and ODIS too) but since then VCP have added a much simpler UI to allow common changes such as dual fog lights and disabling bulb checking for LEDs.

It has been requested that rosstech allow access but I think they are much more worried about legal issues than VCP is and have so far declined to give direct eeprom access.

This is just my understanding and I'm happy to be corrected about the 00 'mask'.

Anyone near Glasgow able to sort both rear fogs on my facelift Octavia?

G

On second thoughts I'm heading down towards Blackpool/Southport tomoz if anyone can help me out?

G

Massive thanks to AndyVee, was down @ Southport with the family and he kindly let me travel to his on the way home to have 2nd rear fog enabled! Absolute gem of a person!

Cheers Andy,

For a MK2 pre-FL Octavia or a Mk3 Octavia you do NOT need to access the eeprom. Mike has given the MK3 procedure above and I'm sure you can find the MK2 pre-FL instructions on here somewhere.

The difficult one is the MK2 FL Octavia, this requires direct access to the eeprom. This is completely at your own risk and if you're not comfortable with binary/hex then I'd suggest you stay away or purchase VCP.

Using ODIS-e or VAS, in the CECM (module 9), access the eeprom (code is probably 42013), you're interested in addresses 3073-3075 and 3076-3078.

As Egypt is a LHD country, I'd expect the current values to be:

- 3073-3075 should be 71 2C 24

- 3076-3078 should be 31 2C 24

You need to change 3076 from 31 to 71 to activate the right hand fog light.

Save and check it works.

correct code

thx all for your replies

i tried what you have informed me but i couldnt find what you said about the adresses 31 and 71

i what to informe you that the binary/hex codes can be appear using odis

i tried thar on an octavia 2 2012

can you informe me what binary no i should change and what is the binary code for the activation

regards

The addresses are 3073-3075 and 3076-3078.

The default data should be 71 2C 24 and 31 2C 24.

You need to change the 31 to 71.

I don't think it can be done using ODIS, it requires ODIS-e (engineering) or VAS to perform the change. There is a rough guide in Russian with some pictures for ODIS-e, just remember it is not the gateway you are interested in, it's module 9.

Again, please be very careful when attempting this as it's entirely possible to destroy the CECM or any other module you change bits in.
