4 mile round trip!! Does it get fully warmed up in 2 miles? Your mpg must be well south of 25.

I tried but I couldn't get on with E / coast mode. Watching the rev counter drop to 900rpm when I was travelling at 65mph was just wrong. I also found I was using the brakes much more to compensate for the lack of engine braking. I quickly went back to D mode & Sport when needed.

I use E/Coast mode all the time.  It's perhaps because I can remember driving two strokes in the 1960s that had a lockable flywheel to prevent the engine being starved of oil if you lift off and also it was jerky when you took your foot off the loud pedal if you didn't use the coasting option.

I'll need to replace the tyres on my 280 estate fairly soon, the std Continental eco contact 6s fitted from new have been okay, currently 18k miles with the fronts close to the tread wear indicators,a little bit more left on the rears.

The car is on a PCP so I need the same standard or better, any thoughts on replacement options?

Can't comment, I never had good experiences with Contis, or Bridgetones for that matter.

I run mine on Falken's cos I'm tight & I don't do huge mileage any more. It's my car so it's my rules & they've been fine. I'm on my 2nd set in the 40,000 miles & 6 years I've had it.

The Conti All Seasons I’ve had on for 18m now are great. They’ve covered about 7.5k and are still as quiet as they were new and there is no perceptible wear, but I do drive “sedately”.

I've looked at those, they look decent, but I'm leaning more towards summer tyres. The Conti premium 7s get good reviews, similar prce to the Eco 6s, they're on my list, still looking.

With the experience I’ve had with these, I’ll be sticking with All Seasons. There brilliant in the dry, wet and on snow, which I encountered on my first month of ownership.

….oh yeah, and soooo much quieter than the OE P7’s.

Choice of all-seasons or dedicated season tires depends on many factors, only you know what your winter and driving conditions are ...

I guess I should quickly introduce myself, many years ago I once owned a Superb Elegance 2.0TDI, I think it was about 2010 but I've gone & got me another one, and  "Yes, I still got my original briskoda Login"

This time it's a 2023MY 280 L&K, its amazing how much more refined this one is, it's nearly run-in now but I'm really enjoying this car and I have already done few VCDS tweaks too.

Not digging the wooden throttle response but I've not been flooring it yet, so time will tell if I need a pedal box and "NO" I don't really like the alloys but they can be changed easily enough.

I do have a question about the underneath of the car though.

When I popped the wheels off to fit a set of mudflaps I discovered there is no undertray directly below the sump, there is a short under-tray under the rads that includes a couple of air scoops on to the gearbox.

I cannot see any fixings for one "if it was missing" so it looks like it's not meant to have a "full" one.  The dealer could not confirm and without another 280 that I can stick my head under it's hard to confirm.

The parts guy could only find what I already found on FleaBay and that is a full length under-tray part, but I don't see how that'll fit because I already have the front part of it.

So, can I please ask you guys that actually have a 280 to stick your head under.  I have included a picture of my car, I hope it helps?

Thanks in advanceIMG_20240604_122707.thumb.jpg.b65406990c43f660625a24d29d681583.jpg

Interesting question, will look under and report.

I am also not so-so with the 19s, I think they look great but ride feels "hard". The wooden feeling in the pedal, I noticed if I set the car in 'Sport' driving mode, the response is fairly adequate. Obviously as MartiniB mentioned it sticks too much to the gears, so I manually "help" to get into a higher gear. When the road gets bad and the ride suffers, I go into "Comfort" and put the DSG into Sport.

Doing like this, during the last thousand or so km I've noticed the lack of pedal feedback is less traumatic....

Very curious. For a modern car that looks odd without an under tray. I'll have a look under mine as well.

As for the Throttle response, yes I found the same. In D mode there was a definite lag between pressing the throttle & any forward motion. Some forum members have talked about there being an "Audi throttle mode" in VCDS which can turned on to sharpen up the response. However, others have also reported that this function did not improve anything in their opinion.

As for mine, I fitted a Racechip Throttle pedal which was originally bought for my wife's 1.5 Karoq to cure the biblical throttle lag that car had. I switched it to my Superb when we sold the Karoq. Same fitting & connections & it has certainly improved the throttle response. When the Racechip is in R+2 mode & DSG is in Sport the car becomes a bit of a "hooligan" with "savage" near instantaneous acceleration & gear changes. Far to aggressive for me so I run the Racechip in N (normal) mode which is fine.

Depending on the road surface 19" wheels can ride a bit hard especially with suspension in Sport mode. I run my suspension in Sport mode & the DSG in D most of the time but switch to Normal or Comfort suspension as required by passengers &/or road conditions.

I was getting some weird engine management lights and odd behviour. Took the throttle pedal gizmo out and all was fine. They go bad sometimes/eventually... so bear that in mind if you get odd behaviour. I'd forgotten it was there ;)  I notice the difference without it. Run eco mode normally, then tap into sport or manual if I want to be a bit more responsive. With the pedal gizmo it was fine pretty much always in eco mode. Not what one buys this type of car for, but also looking down on the motorway to see you left it in sport and it's sitting there in 5th awaiitng the starters pistol... :) and you joined a few junctions back... hehe oops.

I did check the "Audi Throttle" setting in VCDS and mine is already set to that,  I'll just get used to what I have for now before jumping in with a pedal box.

I also apologise for not stating the wheels on mine are the 18" ones that look like plastic hubcaps.  If I change them I was considering 19's but I do like the way my car rides on our rubbish roads.  Maybe I'll try to like what they look like a bit harder if the 19's will spoil my ride.

Got two dashcams to fit also, so a bit annoying to discover the 12V outlets are permanently powered, I will have to purchase one of those little timer/voltage drop boxes.

The Undertray is the most urgent as I can get the dealer to get me one, if it is missing of course.

Thanks again

Well well well.

Looks like mine doesn't have a tray either. However, after 7 years of ownership I think I can live without one.

I am sure at some time, some talented fella recommended a saving of xxx vs. a potential "air flow disturbance" and the board chose to save some pennies. And they all were happy, except whoever pays, that is the customer, of course.

As for the pedal feel, I'd rather try fist a piggyback engine Stage I and then see how it moves. I was thinking to let pass a few more thousand k's to get a feel of the car "original", and then go spending in hooligan mode ....

Torn between Racechip and DTE (DTUK for you guys in the Island), but I need to start reading dedicated literature on the subject ...

Honestly, the 19s are very fine for smooth roads ... like the ones in upper/western Europe. Get to southern and eastern latitudes and ride becomes choppy and harsh, not only for a Superb, but for most vehicles. Here very large rims are only for true fans, maniacs or people with look/attitude deficiencies 🤪

Last not I forgot to mention: return journey from Italy I made +38MPG over 1500km with lawful driving. Sign that IS possible to have both power and economy 😆

I had a DTUK box on an old Audi A6 1.9TDi ( which had a tray under the engine. I know this because the tray came loose while I was driving in Belgium on holiday & had to get a garage to make a temporary fix). The extra boost of power & torque made it quite swift except, after 150,000 miles (10,000 after fitting the DTUK box) the clutch went. Not sure if this was due to general wear & tear or, because of the extra torque from the DTUK box.

After having my 280 remapped (Revo stg 1) a few years ago, it is holding up well 🤞 . The extra 80bhp certainly makes it quicker & , like yours, the fuel consumption is up to 38 on a long run. Only 26mpg around town though which I can live with because I don't do high mileages any more.

Mine is on 19 Trinity rims which I had powder coated black to match the paint colour of the car. Cheaper then getting new rims & it makes the car look better IMO. Not to everyone's taste but I like the meaner look of an all black car. However, it's a pain to keep a black car looking clean.🧽

Thanks guy's, the missing undertray is another one I can cross off the list.

IMHO they have opted for a short under tray on our 280's for increased cooling because the "lesser" models still get a full tray.

Wish mine had the Trinity's, if I painted my wheels black they would look like shiny plastic hubcaps even more than they do already, their saving grace is the 18's ride nice.

If I do go for 19's I'll probably have All Seasons on them, they run a bit softer so the change may not be too noticeable

Hi,

The undertray and rear control arms protections were optional only if the vehicle was equipped with DCC.

Mine (2021) has them:

20240414_182223.jpg

Interesting, mine is a DCC vehicle and I have the plastic protectors, albeit different looking on the rear arms but the short / sump visible engine  one.

So when you say it's optional on DCC cars, do you mean it would have to be "factory" ordered and only  if DCC equipped??

That's right, at least in the Spanish market. It was necessary to have the DCC option selected so that the configurator would let you select the extra protections.

I have not been able to find the image that indicated the extra in the configurator, but this thread talks about it:

"1SK L TWU Additional front underbody guard plus underbody stone guard"

The full undertray is not a standard fitment. I think it’s only fitted to territories which has challenging terrain. I recall a member bought and fitted one, but can’t remember who.

EDIT… It was JR RS in Oz

Update

Thanks for the extra info, at least I know nothing is missing because it has the smaller under-engine guard that I assume is what you get by default.

Next thought is "Is it worth putting a full one on?" - lol

Here you go…
