Rob's Ur Quattro

I'm thinking white. Or maybe silver.

Or white spokes with dark grey inside.

Or I dunno.

The wheels have been stripped for paint so I'll need to paint them. :)

Back on its wheels at last!

  • Wento for a quick trip to the petrol station. Got sidetracked. I am loving this car! It sounds like it's gargling on the fuel not just drinking it, what an awesome sound!

I vote white :)

I still prefer white on the Quattro. Go on, you know it makes sense :)

They'd be a bugger to keep clean though.

I thought that's why you had children ;)

My daughter is just about old enough to be trained in the removal of brake dust.

Weird thing.
I emailed Audi UK with my chassis number to confirm paint code and apparently the factory in Germany says my car is Zermatt Silver Metallic.
This is puzzling because I've seen every layer of paint on my car and there's no silver in there. So it hasn't has a respray unless it was bare metal, which is highly unlikely.
I'm wondering if this is something to worry about!

Surely as there is no original metal left on your car this is a moot point :D Have you decided on a final colour for the paint/wheels combo yet Rob

This car is just taken from Google Images,

but i did a touch up on one the same a few years back and this is the same as the Zermatt Silver i had mixed.

Body will be Montego Black Metallic - which is the only black Audi offered in 1984 and there wasn't a black in 1985, so it must be the right shade.

Tempted to go Zermatt Silver on the new wheels, which is the colour of the original wheels.

By the way the wheels have been scanned at Gatwick on their way to me. Excite.

Wheels have cleared customs. Waiting for the call now to pay import duty. 5 days since collection in UK.

The spoiler on the other hand was posted in Germany on the 10th and hasn't reached NZ yet. World's slowest plane?

Hah, typical it arrived in the country an hour after I posted the above.

It's the 'God of wheels' letting you know they should be painted white. Once you agree to this your bits will appear :)

I'm pretty much certain that one or the other of you is right; they should be silver or white, but it depends on whether the spoke pattern is road only, competition only, or one that was used for both.

tbh if the wheel has lots of spokes I think silver looks better and if it has big spokes and a deep dish then I prefer white. I realise this has no scientific or restoration basis :)
