Rob's Ur Quattro

Lovely to see a car like this come back to life again...assuming at that age is a 10v?

Really respect you are restoring pretty much to OEM too.

I spent a few moments drooling over that OEM AudiSport wheel......

Back on its wheels at last!

  • Wento for a quick trip to the petrol station. Got sidetracked. I am loving this car! It sounds like it's gargling on the fuel not just drinking it, what an awesome sound!

Thanks :)

Yeah I want it to look OEM but I don't mind fitting more modern stuff under the skin, like electric central locking.

It is a 10v WR engine, 197bhp from the factory.

I hope to be able to just change fluids and fix any issues (like the squeaky steering) without messing with the engine for now.

Still not 100% decided on the wheels. I decided to get the factory 15" Ronals refurbed but tyre sizes are weird and hard to get here. I started looking at aftermarket wheels which were in keeping with the car but the offset is also weird.

So I went back to the refurb option.

Then these came up for sale yesterday (pics are on Facebook, sorry):

They're 17x8.5" and similar to Sport quattro wheels.

Newly powder coated.

Hmm...

I really like those...i guess you can always have them refinished in silver or another colour if you get fed up with the white.

Understand getting parts for UR Quattros is getting ever harder as Audi have given up factory support for them (a good few years ago) I understand?

10v ultimately no doubt that bit more reliable than a 20 in any case.....

Looks over-wheeled with 17s, IMO.

I love the 'white with decals' version. yummy :)

Do you need a Michelle Mouton co driver?

Co-driver? Wouldn't that make you Fab Pons instead?

Well obviously I wanted to drive it, I just didn't want to seem pushy ;)

Ahh dammit he sold them to someone in Germany - less hassle for him. Ah well, happy new year everyone. I will drive the Rusty quattro this year!

Tell you what... Looking at those pics I can see why you picked just rust... There's some real skill showing in what they are doing... Things like the sunroof and pillar rebuild are quality pieces of fabrication!

Called Just Rust. Trying not to hassle them too much :)
The rear corner is rebuilt in metal now, not rust and filler. Front guards aren't removed yet, waiting for that to happen to see the A pillar rust. And they have promised me some more photos.

AK Motorsport are going to be getting some more of the white AZEV 5 spoke 17s pictured above. Might be rude not to :)

Is it wrong to be thinking about changing the rear spoiler?

Only if you fit one from a Sport S1 E2! ;)

When do you hope to have it back on the road Rob...guess its still a while off? Good progress on the bodywork front though.

I was hoping to have it at least drivable by mid this year but that was assuming I got it back at Christmas then six months to put it back together. Optimistic maybe :D

I definitely want to drive it in 2016 ! Would love to have it ready to take to car shows next summer, so December to March. It's not going to be a show car but it will get a lot of interest as it's so rare to see one of these.

Nice one Rob excited to see further progress on this soon.

Power wise are you looking to go above the stock 197hp/200ps?

They have promised me a full 9 days's work starting today. (next Monday is a public holiday in NZ for Waitangi Day)

Looking forward to the promised photos of what's under the front guards.

I'm off work Thursday so I'll call in for a look :D

As for power - initially my plan is to get it on the road and make everything that's there work.

Maybe later I'll look at some tuning stuff.

Rear end now getting sorted out. Many towbar fixing holes to fill. And stripping the underseal has revealed a bodged repair from when the car has been hit in the rear. It was mostly held together with underseal behind the rear arch.

ooooh it's starting to look like a car again.....well a little bit :)

I'm starting to wonder if you should use Mod privileges to rename the thread "Project Colander". ;)

Called for a quick look and saw lots of hammering and smoke and welding going on in my car's boot.

They showed me this and said the rear of my Audi has the worst damage repairs they've ever seen. Multiple bodged repairs covered by lots of underseal to hide it. Lovely.

Your car reminds me of the 'Spittoon' joke. They can't stop now. Explanations of the joke are available on request :-)
