Back on its wheels at last!

  • Wento for a quick trip to the petrol station. Got sidetracked. I am loving this car! It sounds like it's gargling on the fuel not just drinking it, what an awesome sound!

My wheels appear to fit.

Loving the build Rob.

For me these really need to be silver

If they were the rally versions then I agree white would be the choice, BUT not on these.

Actually now I have seen them on the car I think they should be white... but with NO (large) centre cap covering the bolts.

I love the way that your wheels are trying to look white :p

bet you're excited :)

Dammit I'm swinging back towards white now.

Maybe powder coated.

It'll be a while before I can afford tyres anyway, so plenty of time :)

We'll see! It depends on a few things, and also once it's done how much I use two cars.

I have two cars and find I use them one at a time :D but seriously, I use the right car for the right job. Unfortunately you have two fast cars for hooning around. not sure how you prioritise that one :D

Oh my days Rob, behave, posting porn this early in the morning, that blue Quattro with WHITE WHEELS is just gorgeous

Blue looks good, though I think I would seriously consider white with white wheels, a timeless classy look IMO. Looking great Rob, love the enthusiasm and passion behind giving this car a second life, great stuff.

White would be a bit too drastic a colour change, plus I'm not painting the engine bay (yet).

If I went white I would be tempted to add the rally graphics :D

Sent them an email trying to get them to commit to a paint date...

Excited.

Actually starting to look like a car agaib Rob, looking forward to next update!

None. Also I ordered a pinstriping kit so I can add the pinstripes that my car hasn't had for at least 15 years.

Now I'm thinking about blue paint.

Those early cars were only available in red, white, black and possibly silver.

Having said which I love that sort of shade of blue! :D

Okay no more silliness. It should be original black.

If I'm restoring a car to standard (excluding period extras) I always go with the original colour, that's how it left the factory. If the car is being played about with in the rebuild, then it doesn't matter so much to me. Keep it standard to it's vin number. Wheel type and colour can be changed at any time, the body work is a whole different ball game if you want to use and enjoy the car. It takes time to change it once the car has been restored (unless you are a talented body man), It can also devalue the car. Stay stock and you cannot go wrong in the long run.

I was looking at the new MB coupe a few days ago and I think it was in the same colour as your forthcoming car. Looked stunning. Best looking MB I've seen for years.

Mine will never be original again exactly, it has been hacked around quite a bit. Original head unit is gone, doors have been butchered a bit to fit in speakers, original seat material is gone, seat heaters are gone.

I'm really happy about that rear shelf now being fixed.

Mechanically it's mostly as it was stock. some bodges need fixing like the fuel pump wiring (current pump was robbed from an Audi 80 I think) I want it to look as original as possible when it's done. I like the red leather, it needs some serious scrubbing as it's filthy.

Carpets are okay and should clean up well. The last owner found a period Blaupunkt tape/radio. I want to wire this up and make it work but also get a hidden Bluetooth unit and amp to power some nice speakers. Maybe a sub in the back if I can build it in in cleanly.

I've ditched the stock pneumatic central locking for a remote electric kit but none of that will be visible.

Wiring obviously needs some sorting out!

I have a big pack of Dynamat for the roof, floor, doors (waxoil in there needs removing :( )

Looking forward to getting into it!

But back to colour, it really needs to stay original black. Wheels, spoilers etc can be easily put back to stock. Colour not so much.
