Rob's Ur Quattro

Well the dash no longer flickers since I ran a new earth to the rear lights!

I re-fitted the door card on the driver's side after testing the window. I even got my daughter to help scrub it clean!

This is a concern though!

Back to the starting - I fixed the fuel pump - just a dodgy wire joint to the pump.
Still no start though.
Checked the wiring as best I could, looks okay I think. I even tried adding back the dodgy looking loop in the ignition wiring, no joy.
Tried the spare starter switch from the GT. Nope.
Found two blown fuses, changed them, no apparent difference.
But now the radiator fan runs all the time the ignition is on!
Two days to go!
Charging battery again just in case it's that. If not it might be time to investigate the starter itself.

Back on its wheels at last!

  • Wento for a quick trip to the petrol station. Got sidetracked. I am loving this car! It sounds like it's gargling on the fuel not just drinking it, what an awesome sound!

It's amazing how much better it makes me feel knowing I can start the car. After three days of thinking it was broken and looking for the fault I was starting to feel a bit disheartened. So much to fix, but knowing that it moves at least helps.

I drove Rusty for about 50m around the drive today. Made me happy.

Passenger side window regulator, that's why it isn't working. Going to look around for someone local who can repair it.

It took me ages to get the seat in place, then I realised the new seatbelt was stopping it from going in. So there's some modification to do there.

Tempted to drive it down to Kohl before I do much more, and get the carpet made.

I am guessing they are real leather seats, have a look for leather seats and hair dryer, I picked up some new seats and using the hair dryer really worked at removing some of the creases etc.

When I fitted the driver's seat I found out that the new seatbelt rubbed as the seat moved. I tried the various brackets that came with the kit but wasn't happy with it, so I popped the new one apart and was happy to find that it bolts together. Next job was to drill out the rivet holding the original one, trim the metal very slightly and attach the new head to the old bracket.

Sam halped out in his usual fashion, i.e getting in my face and knocking stuff off the bench.

Painted the seatbelt thingy and fitted it back to the seat, it works :D
Then I decided to jack up the car and have a look around under the engine.
The bushes are all buggered...

Good news! I drained and re-filled the power steering fluid, and fired up the quattro. It seems to have cured that horrible buzzing noise from the pump. Yay!

I'm now trying to decide what to do next. Tempted to work on the brake lights and indicators then drive it down the road to get a carpet made.

I like the idea of getting the interior all done. It'd help with some of the wiring too, having somewhere to connect it to in the centre console.

How cool is it to be able to say "I fired up the Quattro". Gene Hunt would be proud :)

Booked in for next Monday for shiny new carpets!
Let's hope it's not raining as I still have no passenger window.

  • Author

Woot!

Just drove my quattro for the first time :) Got into third gear briefly. Speedo reads zero all the time. Steering still noisy. It got a bit damp in the rain and has no passenger window at the moment.

But the best bit is it beeps the horn randomly. Must be the slip ring I modified on the new wheel. Not the best when you're trying to be incognito in a car that's not road legal. But funny :)

Looks awesome!

I actually like the wheels that are on it as well.

Probably a stupid question as you've no doubt mentioned it before and I've missed it but is that the actual number plate?

  • Author

The stock wheels are pretty cool and I will be retaining them and getting them cleaned up. :)

But big white ones will also be awesome.

That is the actual plate, yes :D
