Back on its wheels at last!

  • Wento for a quick trip to the petrol station. Got sidetracked. I am loving this car! It sounds like it's gargling on the fuel not just drinking it, what an awesome sound!

School run, followed by a rush-hour commute in to central Wellington. Turns out the heater doesn't work.

Like for the pics.

From first principles for the heater, do its water pipes get hot with the engine?

I've just found out that the urquattro only heats the air to the side vents, and I was only feeling the centre one, so it might actually work.

Will do some testing when I have time. The next couple of weeks are going to be rather busy :)

That I didn't know, and I used to have a mate who had an Audi coupe (before he head-butted the planet with it, and made it 3 feet shorter. FWIW he was unhurt in this 60mph crash).

I'm back from two weeks in the U.S. A drive in Rusty was required as soon as possible.

@RobClubley - Preference for the top photo because the quarter angle shows off the car better, and the background shows off NZ better!

No petrol in the A4, so a great excuse to commute in the ur.
Average MPG isn't too bad over the first 200 miles or so.
My ABS light comes on every time I go over 70kph, sometimes stays on, sometimes goes off again. It goes off and stays off if I fiddle with the ABS off switch. Something else for the list.

Hmm Having intermittent issues posting images hosted on Facebook. Can anyone see the above images or are they broken?

None of the last post images here Rob, the rest are ok.

@RobClubley - The top one is just a wee square and a very long number; the other 2 work for me (Chrome on W7).

Rob - Car park and dash photos (plus two at top of the page) work fine for me on Macbook (via Chrome and safari - don't have IE).

Lovely car!!

This is Sam. Not the one who got locked in the garage and made those prints on the bonnet.

Took the front apart to start on the list of jobs I need to do. First, start fitting the Samco hoses.

Headlight washers plumbed in at last with the kit from Classic Quattros.

I made Rusty cry! Turns out the headlight washer pump leaks. As soon as I topped the bottle up, water dribbled out of the washers.

Water hoses done.

First time I've really got a look at the turbo. It looks alright. No play in the compressor wheel.

Hmm that's not so good. The flexi hose to the intake was repaired with duct tape, too.

All back together - time for a test drive. It feels a bit better but still runs out of power at about 5000 rpm.
The intake hose is slightly twisted so might be deforming under boost - need to loosen it and sort it but it's a pig to get to.

Just checking.. yep the coolant stayed in.

Took the wife for her first ride in the car. She pointed out about ten things wrong with it that I haven't got to yet.
Then we broke down in the shopping centre car park - not quite enough charge in the battery to start the car. She got a bit grumpy because we needed to be somewhere and I had to call the AA for a jump start from a booster pack.

Today was more successful - I took Rusty to the Capital Rodders Swap Meet.
Longest drive yet - Tawa to Upper Hutt. Coming back over SH58 made me grin. Must sort out the rear wheel rubbing issue though!!

It was my fault. So annoyed with myself!.
I have an awkward uphill 90 degree turn in the drive to get into my garage and I have to go in at an angle. I misjudged it and as it was dark I couldn't see properly in the side mirror that it was about to make contact with the door frame.

After a bit of polishing.  The pinstripe needs removing and re-doing and there is a bit of a dent
