Does this screen grab mean windows 10 is on my PC?

Featured Replies

Good luck!

Done. It's not a quick process is it.

Tried a few times and it was asking for more space on the C: drive, so had to put in a USB drive. Left it running overnight and it was done when this morning.

Had a quick look round it this morning and seems OK. Bit of shock at first as the keyboard didn't work but it wasn't in tablet mode.

BING is back though :x  but soon got rid of that to Google

  • Can anyone on 10 confirm chrome working? So long as that works, she won't be upset at any other niggles.

  • Yup. Chrome installed and working fine for me.   Phil

I had to enable the on screen keyboard on the taskbar as it didn't always appear when required. I did a system refresh before I did the update to get rid of all the stuff that had accumulated since Dec.

I've now done it on all three of our machines. Got one of each really. A desktop, a laptop and a tablet.

Working very well on all three.

The desktop was the quickest to do. It whizzed through but then it does has an SSD so that must have helped.

I've won brownie points with the other half though as the tablet is working really well now. Much faster and the battery life is fantastic.

My inner child screamed at me to "just do it!"

Backed up the little I hadn't already done and let loose the beast.

2hr later working fine including ancient Samsung printer which had issues under Win7.

Boot is spectacularly fast compared to 7 even on a spinning disk.

Might have heledp that I keep everything very up to date with patches and for everything is bought and licensed.

Updated my Laptop today

Seamless process and seems to be running fine with no problems at all......YET

Has anyone who has updated already been running Kaspersky total security on their machine?, did the update go ok and leave it without issues?.

I have McAfee and its installed perfectly

McAfee here too.

I have KIS and that has a fair number of issues and you have to search quite hard to find the patched version of KIS 2015. I don't know which security suite I'll have next though.

Found the latest version of Total Security 2016 on their site last night, thanks for that, Upgrade good to go for weekend now.

Kaspersky have yet to update their Business AV products, despite them being A) more costly and B) based on a lot of the same code as the Home ones.

In the subject of Kaspersky

Is it better than others?

Kasperski is pretty good.

Not sure it's so much better than the free options AVG / Comodo etc but you'll have less nagware.

AV has been fighting  a losing battle for some years, they're all some way off the mark now. Cloud based stuff is more effective but I'm not sure much of it is available to home users yet.

Panda AV claims to be cloud based but wasn't actually all that great last I looked.

Turned the laptop on this morning and it told me the update was ready for downlaod.  I knew I wouldn't be able to resist it and it is now running Windows 10.  Only problem I have is it starts us and tells me theat Windows Defender is disabled and my computer is at risk.  Also if I use Firefox it locks the whole lot up and I have to hit the big off switch and reboot it all.  I have downloaded the latest version but it makes no difference.

At the moment I am using Edge but would prefer to go back to Firefox as I have used it for years now and know my way around it.

There seems to be a lot of windows 10 preparation updates.

Edge is supposed to be pretty decent but until it has adblock and noscript I'll stick to FF

I agree about the ad block but Firefox just locks the laptop up as soon as you try to load a new page.  I have deleted it and will try and reload to see if that works.

Firefox works perfectly well on Windows 10, tested it here by installing the latest version. I suspect maybe one of the add ins that you have installed is not happy and needs updating to work with Windows 10.

Windows defender maybe disabled it you have any other antivirus installed. In Windows 10, just like 8 and 8.1 before it Windows defender is a full blown but not very good AV product. With Windows 7 Defender simply dealt with Malware and was a separate install.

WIn10 must be sucking up all of M$ attention, the Win7 update yesterday left my PC unstable, I had to go into Safe Mode, delete the M$ updated GFX driver and reinstall the last one directly from the AMD website, another reason to avoid Win10 - you cant turn off auto-updates.

I don't have defender apparently it is being turned off because I have Windows Security Essentials.  I haven't tried to reload it as yet as I have been painting the kitchen ceiling.  To be honest I would rather do battle with Windows 10 and Firefox than paint anything.

Oh and it won't let me post smiies!

Win 10 wont let me 'Quote' a post

Win 7 on my other Lap top, will

Any ideas?

Its the edge browser, does not work well here either. The forum software this site runs on will need a patch at some point, until then use firefox/chrome etc.

(Used my Win 7 Laptop to answer)

Alternatively there is still Internet Explorer in windows 10 which I'm using and it's working perfectly.
