Does this screen grab mean windows 10 is on my PC?

Featured Replies

I've got it currently installing very slowly on my Intel Atom based Acer tablet (1GB Ram and 32GB HDD), currently at 22% done and progressing.

lol I still have one of those single core bad boys knocking about Win XP FTW!

  • Can anyone on 10 confirm chrome working? So long as that works, she won't be upset at any other niggles.

  • Yup. Chrome installed and working fine for me.   Phil

reinstalled chrome = doesnt work at all, fully uninstalled chrome and reinstalled = doesnt work at all........... pages unresponsive every time piece of ****

Done a clean install here, although it won't activate using the Win8 key I have. Microsoft claim it will work in 24-48 hours so we shall see.

The clean install was one of the simplest things I've done, the only driver I've had to install manually was the touchpad. All others were downloaded as soon as I connected to WiFi. It was also remarkably quick but I do cheat by having a 5GB partition at the start of my drive to copy the files from a windows ISO to. This can be booted like a normal CD (assuming you have an laptop with good EFI support) and installs in less than 5 minutes. This is on a Dell Vostro 3360 with a Samsung 850 Evo so it's not a slow machine.

Chrome is working perfectly normally here and most changes look to be cosmetic around the start menu and windows settings.

Unresponsive or looks like no net connection?

My only drama with a fresh install at this point (which I have iso ready for in the event) is that my HP crap will all be gone and beats audio etc which will all have to be installed from scratch along with my stupid epson wifi printer which is crazy to set up without the original frisbee I donated to gravity.

Perhaps its because during the update I selected the custom option and turned off all the default options for 'helping' to make the world a better place.....

Unresponsive or looks like no net connection?

both at the same time looks like no net then can't even go into settings. My friggin wifi signal is 50% poorer also for no apparent reason on it's proper driver or trying the windows special........

even the new video player doesn't seem to be able to play anything on it just audio with a black screen. Not a happy camper tonight, rage has set in. I have found the lets go back to Win8.1 option but it tells me I may need to reinstall programs again anyway FML! So it's a fresh install and then a full recovery to 8.1 if it's still annoying me.

Worst thing is I have lost some licenced software that I have to deactivate to retain the key, but thats gone now. Thanks Win 10!

I'm surprised chrome isn't working. Google were part of the windows 10 project testing weren't they?

The no net connection looking issue in certain apps ( on one of my REVO media boxes IE Edge would show not connected although chrome was fine ) is due to the Public / Private net type setting getting switched at install.

Its now also buried under "Find Devices and Content".

If it is any consolation, I am approaching three days on a disk defrag and optimisation. Its only a (nearly full) 1TB drive as well!!

You got NVIDIA gfx on your machine?? If so, be prepared for more hair pulling, the effluent has hit the fan - as predicted by many tech sites.

No problems with win10... after an update... but to finish that I had to deal with hard restarts...

Firefox works good... :D

I think that must have been the most painless OS update, just left the PC to it and everything looks to be working with no extra input on my part.

Noting the time it is, I am now on what appears to be a working Windows 10...................... FML!

End process to keep my pre installed software suit was to reformat primary partition and use iso for factory install back to win 8.1, the moment that had logged in (having done an offline user account set up not that log in with your msn account crap), I put in the win 10 boot disc I burned with the ISO I got earlier as the win 10 update icon was not there and likely wouldn't until 2gb of win 8.1 updates rolled in. This was my last attempt after a couple of same issue Win 10 updates and installs. All working with Chrome now. :)

Windows Tablet didn't flag anything to download last night

Windows Tablet didn't flag anything to download last night

I'm going to hold off on the tablet until I've seen someone else has done it successfully.  It is rather short on disk space (unless it gets rid of the restore partition). One of my w7 pcs is updating at the moment - the other three aren't.

When presented with the options which did you choose?

Windows 10 Home

Windows 10 Home N

Windows 10 Home Single Language

Windows 10 Pro

Windows 10 Pro N.

Im guessing that because 10 Pro is business focused then its not free. Also whats The N for?

Mine didn't flag up anything yesterday as such, it was 29th July so I clicked on that windows update icon at bottom right, which has been lingering like a bad smell for the last while and instead of it saying would you like to reserve, now said it was ready to go and followed prompts from there. During the update process it allowed me to choose to save and or burn the ISO of the install (I did all 3).

I had the Windows icon (which led me to the reserve update option) but that icon disappeared yesterday?

Hmmm, this is fun times....

I work for a software company. We've already had several customers asking about Windows 10 compatibility.

I want to verify it works properly, so that we can use the Compatible with Windows 10 logo etc.

Is there a test yet? Not that I can find.

Still only makes reference to Windows 8.

It depends what version of Windows you currently have, the following list should tell you which version to install:

Windows 10 Home

- Windows 7 Starter
- Windows 7 Home Basic
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- Windows 8.1
- Windows 8.1 with Bing

Windows 10 Pro
- Windows 7 Professional
- Windows 7 Ultimate
- Windows 8.1 Pro

If you choose a Pro install but only have a Home licence key, it will not activate leaving you to either reinstall or purchase a licence.

There are normally K and N editions of windows but I wouldn't worry about them for normal use:

Windows N: Has multimedia support removed from the OS install.  This is the version sold to the European market and is missing Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, and Windows DVD Maker.  This was due to sanctions by the European Union (EU) against Microsoft for violating anti-trust laws.

Windows K: This edition is sold to South Korean markets and comes pre-installed with links to other competing instant messaging and media player software.

Windows KN: Is a combination of K and N.  It has links to other competing IM/MP software, but also does not include Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, or Windows DVD Maker.

Well downloaded Windows 10 Home changed to ISO and selected both 32 and 64 bit versions just so I had both rather than doing individually. It took all of a few minutes to download but then realised the 6gb iso is too large to fit on a dvd. So now im downloading just the 64bit version as that's the majority of PC's it will be used on but even though its half the size @ 3gb its taking forever. I suspect because its the most popular download and there are literally millions downloading this version. On our business infinity connection its took 1 hour to get to 14%. I should have just mounted the 6gb iso image on a usb stick. Grrrr deleted it now.
