VRS spare wheel

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking for a spare wheel for my VRS hatchback. Dealer wanted approx £330 for a space saver with tool kit, thinking about a full size 2nd hand alloy with tyre.

Does anyone know if a full size alloy with tyre will fit in the spare wheel space in the hatchback boot?

Also i understand i need a minimum 17" alloy to clear the front brake calipers, but does anyone know what spec wheel i need, ie pcd, offset etc?

Www.mytyres.co.uk sell individual alloys or steels with tyres.

I got one for my last car for around £120

Have a look on this thread, it got discussed recently:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/371410-my16-mkiii-vrs-tdi-quick-review-after-first-5-days/

In short, you need a minimum of a 17" wheel to clear the front brakes, and a full size wheel will fit in the wheel well if you are prepared to lift the boot floor slightly.

The 17" wheels fitted to the MK3 Octavia are 17x7J, with tyres of size 225/50R17. Someone will be along soon with more details I'm sure but I would have thought any VAG 17" wheel would fit. It'll need to have a PCD of 5x112, with a tyre of 225/50R17. Offset will probably be around 50.

Kinda wished I ordered the wheel when I got my car now. Wasn't too bothered about the wheel but now I have no jack either!

Thanks for the info. How much does the boot floor lift up with a full size wheel?

Glad I spent the extra £100 and ordered a spare with mine. Just seemed wrong not having one.

Tyres are 225/45R17. 205/50R17 may also suit on a VRS. 17x7 inch rim should have offset of around 45.

I have an 18x8J wheel in the well (225/40 tyre), lifts the boot floor by about 20mm. I don't notice it though as I have a hard plastic boot liner. If you were really fussy you could prop the floor up around the wheel well with something but I haven't bothered.

How come it is £330 for a space saver. Sure its nowhere near that as an accessory, even with the jack etc.

I think it is as a dealer accessory. Much cheaper (£70 I think for me) to order with the car.

So glad all VW Golfs have a spare wheel as factory standard fit even on the basic trim.

However because I chose the dynaudio sound package I have to have an 18" skinny spare in the well as the subwoof only sits in an 18" wheel!

I could get an 18" alloy & fit it in the well & leave the vario floor (standard fit again) in the higher position, but I would have to rig a longer screw for the sub & extend the wiring for the sub to reach over the tall wheel...........

So have just left it instead, & if I get a flat on the front I will fit the skinny to the rear & swap the rear with the front, safer........unless in nasty place to do swap then will direct swap until I find a safer place to do the swap.

Could be worse, could be a can of foam :P

I bought a brand new anthracite gemini from ebay seller for £150, plus goodyear efficient grip new for £40 on special from camskill, less than a month ago.

The space saver and the polystyrene is in the shed at present. But if you're keeping her, you can trim the edges of the grey polystyrene tool kit the spare wheel kit comes with and it too clears the variable boot floor. (Mine is in an estate).

So much more reassuring having had two punctures in teh first month I had it. Can. Not. Believe. They let you buy a motorvehicle with only foam to get you home...

Does anyone know if international countries require a spare mandatorily out of interest?

I tried their website, they dont list the 2.0tdi vrs octavia. I emailed them and they said there is no confirmation from skoda about suitable replacements or there not in stock.

I bought the car used with 6k on the clock from the dealer so it came with the foam can in the boot :(. When i bought it i asked about a spare wheel and they quoted me about £330.

I would suggest you ring another dealers parts department. Say you want price for the space saver spare kit (including the jack). I have looked at Skoda accessories on line and they start at £41. Sure it's around £60. Think you've been quoted for another alloy plus jack etc. Then ring your dealers parts department.

Shame.

Currently waiting on quote from another dealer. But new space saver with tool kit for vrs on a well known auction site is £330 (part number 5K0601011AA for wheel)

I have just changed from a Mk2 FL vRS to a Mk3 vRS and have an 18" Neptune from my previous car and the tool kit with jack etc.

I have two questions for those 'in the know'.

Am I correct in thinking that the PCD is the same? I'm not worried about the wheel matching as it would be only a spare; and

Is the jack the same for the Mark 2 and Mark 3 Octavia?  I have the foam and tools etc. (unused) from the old car and would prefer not to have to buy another set.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Wheel is fine it will fit......Jack I've no idea as I've not looked at mine

The jack for mk3 is different and better. I am not sure if the mk2 jack CAN be used on mk3.

Thanks for the responses, it looks like I'll be re-using the spare and ordering a new jack.

I'm looking into spare for my new bed also. Just been quoted approx £305 by dealer. Could someone please advise what is the actual size of the official space saver wheel. I've seen kits on eBay which say suitable for vRS to replace 18" wheel but the actual size of space saver is 16". But I'm sure I've read elsewhere it needs to be a 17" wheel. Or is space saver different? Thanks.

Sorry should have said vrs, not bed! Predictive text :-)
