Will Adblue tanks be fitted in old Yeti boots

Featured Replies

^^^^re your last point, wouldn't 11 million indicate more than AdBlue edition cars?.

I thought it was the case that none of the US cars in the recall use Adblue?

Well I had formed the impression that the AdBlue series was developed specifically to gain U.S. certification, but I guess we'll know before too long.

Not getting worked up just enjoying all the banter,I think we are all trying to get to the truth about which engines are affected as the only confirmation so far from Skoda is it IS the EA189 2ltr........2009-2013 ,as to the mpg figures I don't think that they are that far away IF anybody takes the time to drive really steady and can't expect to get near the given figures if you drive it like you stole it and I can't say I'm dissapolnted with my mpg as I have control over it in my driving manner and can even exceed mpg sometimes on steady runs,I'm more than happy with the car in the time we have had it,but I am concerned to any financial loss I might occur beyond the expected usual one because of VAG trying to deceive us all to get world domination of car sales.

A huge amount of fuss over something which is entirely predictable if you set entirely artificial and arbitrary targets then people will "Game" them-it is an entirely rational act for any intelligent person to respond to such issues. It would be surprising if it was rare. Therefore who was surprised, i suggest only the naive. If you say people must be out of casualty within 4 hours you end up with people queued in parked ambulances or admitted to corridors. If you expect any different or worse get huffy about it then you just don't understand. what would have been wrong with testing road vehicles on the road? Ask a politician why "alice in wonderland" tests were set rather than blaming engineers for successfully meeting them.

See Switzerland has now band the sale of all remaining VAG stock with EU5 diesel engines (1.2, 1.6 & 2.0).

Seems they like taking on dodgy organisations then, in support of the US  :giggle:

...and associations.

I thought it was the ecu/software programming and not the engine

Exactly so this software is not attached to the engine but part of the car's computer control system.  Surely by leaving it in place we keep the better emissions figures at least while stationary at the traffic lights!

Taking off the software fix will only make the overall emissions worse!

My understanding is that there are various factors that switch in the 'reduced emissions test' mode eg: front wheels spinning, back wheels stationary; steering remaining straight ahead. Further if this reduced emission mode were to be permanently switched in, the power output of the engine would be significantly reduced....

It's likely that Fred, like me, remembers that as fact of 1940's life rather than as a Dad's Army joke.

Correct!

That's what the wife is for! I keep telling her that it was part of the marriage licence fee. 49 years married this December, unless she reads this.

My silence is available for a 'consideration' ))))

@Fred It cost you 7/6d for the licence. Think how much a divorce will cost you. Say no mooooooooooooore...

'Nuff said, I'll try to keep on topic now.

Can they fit a large balloon to the exhaust pipe? When it fills, just pop down to your local VAG dealer and they will exchange it for an empty one.

Where are they going to store all the Full Balloons and will they be made by Durex.  :notme:

One and a bit million Audi's affected, from A1 to Q5, on the news at lunch time.

How long will it be before other makers own up that they are doing it also?

I cannot envisage that there will be a headlong rush to get the software downgrade fitted to peoples' 2.0 TDI's....

I can't see how every vehicle using the affected engines wouldn't be implicated, they all use the same mapping, ECU etc. I know my SEAT Exeo 170 tdi will be affected as will every other car with that engine. I'm not sure why there's confusion. It just depends if it matters in the slightest for Europe.

Oh I've just heard Skoda is affected as well as Audi now too, there's a surprise! :D

I meant from the owners not the Dealers... :|

Yes... but gamification isn't always good: VW gamed the US government on emissions - they are now learning that was a bad move (stock down 40% at time of writing, CEO resigned and under "investigation", etc).

Also gamification does not excuse lack of transparency: if VW had stated in every car handbook that their emission figures were artificial and "detected by the engine which used optimal parameters for the purposes of the test" then this furore would simply have reflected onto the civil servants...
