  • In that case you (and I) are going to die in an exploding ball of fire in the bottom of a snow filled ravine, having slid off an ungritted ice-covered road due to us not having spent £800 on a spare s

  • Im sorry, but that is the sillyest thing Ive read so far today. Ok granted, Im used to a totally different winter than you, but no matter how good a driver you are, summertyres is outright dangerous

  • In a lot of the UK we can have an entire year with no snow and ice, and for the few days that it might happen I can just leave the car on the drive. If I lived in a more rural area with worse weather

On all year every year, and when the snow comes they might get changed to snow tyres, or i will use a suitable car with them on,

since snow tyres are no use on vehicles with no clearance if roads are not ploughed.

Winter or Snow Tyres being of no use either if the road is closed to anything other than 4x4's,

and they (Police Scotland) mean 4x4's that can get through without bellying out in deep snow.

3C this morning.

IT was 3 degrees and thick fog, and dark! cycling to work at 5.15 yesterday morning in the sticks, but 16 on my way home, I will not change both bike and car till it gets below 5 most days .I need them to get up the 20% hills with sharp bends to get to and from work, necessity for me

Now there's a hard man, on a bloody pushbike at 5 in the morning in the cold fog and dark and you pussies are in yer heater boxes with snow tyres :)

No sign of any temps in single figures down south here in Dorset, including overnight.

The next few nights have a forecast minimums of (Deg.C) 11,11,13,12,11,12,11 with daytime highs around 14-15C over the same period.

Not yet seen him doing 60 in an NSL with the flow of traffic though ;). :D

. I can get 50 on the flat if the winds behind me , I got some chavs in an souped up Evo gobsmacked at that , and 65 mph going down hangingstone lane tour route past cow and calf in other direction

Think how much more you could do with a fairing.  Never understood why bicycle racers cannot/do not use fairings like us bikers, would be much faster, further , better, a bit Luddite-ish.

They just use those crazy helmets haha.

Thats good going.

Most of em around here seem to do 20mph and use the entire width of thr road to get round corners.

Local tyre fitter put the Winters on our Fabia and BMW yesterday.

I'll be swapping the wheels on the Passat this weekend.

It's just started to snow near Hamilton.

That'll be my Twitter inbox chock full of reports of accidents on the M74 and M8 due to people Driving To The Weather Conditions!

Snowing in Birmingham.  Just seen pictures of it lying in Stoke.

Car thermometer warmed up a couple of degree coming down from the higher land above sea level Brum is down to the floor of the Severn Valley, just the Malvern Hills getting a dusting.

A few nights of around zero and flurries (not McD ones) and sleet predicted and then a few days of warmer before the December chill cometh.

Snow on car this morning and -1.5 but bitter wind makes it colder , texting on the train as I left the bike at home for once !

Hopefully the snow gates will open soon on the A93, it is a bit blowy.

Oh this is good weather for a twincharger just serviced and with new plugs, George you were right.

And for the first time ever, I think I'm going to invest in winter tyres, my wife is the main driver and is worried about the snow when it properly arrives. Not entirely sure which tyres it will be yet, so some scouting around required. If I'm correct the mk2 Fabia Vrs has a setting in display for winter tyres?

IIRC that's really just for setting a max speed if the tyre recommends one.

Yes just a Winter Tyre Fitted Warning that you set at any speed the suits,

you have another Speed Limit warning you can set as well.

If you fit winter tyres with a lower speed rating than your standard fit summers then you must either be able to set an electronic warning or have a warning sticker positioned in view of the driver.

I have H rated winters so have the warning set to 130mph :) lol.

Who says?

Skoda?

Exactly!

In the UK vehicles of different classes do not even have a Sticker inside to tell the driver the class of Vehicle and

the NSL's applying to it.

Or anything to tell you what tyres are fitted, but they are going to be good for 70 mph unless marked 'Offroad only' 'Not for road use'.

or 'Agricultural Use Only'

?

Which of the Multi-National or National UK Tyre Fitting Companies have these Stickers to apply to

vehicles they have fitted the tyres to?

No EU legislation

Never known it enforced in the UK but it's the reason why many cars have electronic winter tyre alarms.

So you don't need the warning device or sticker?

So you don't need the warning device or sticker?

According to EU law you do. It's part of the type approval legislation and covers all member states.

It's to cover you getting in a strange car and doing 155mph on German Autobahns with H rated winters fitted or driving in a Northern European country with studded tyres rated at 50mph without your knowledge of what is fitted.

As I said it's one of those directives that I've never known enforced in the UK but it is there.

It's the reason many cars have winter tyre speed warning systems.
