SmartGate wifi direct

Featured Replies

Odd that in flight mode the WiFi gets turned back on. What version of Android are you running? Lollipop should have settings for Downtime or Do Not Disturb, might be a better way of achieving the same end result?

5.0.1 on a S4.

I can replicate it,

Open Smartgate app and tap Connect.

Put device in Flight mode.

Go to Smartgate App and watch it going from being Connected to Disconnected.

Watch the WIFI symbol come on and connect to house WIFI.

And if you tap disconnect on the Smartgate App before enabling flight mode?

Try using the DND feature of Lollipop instead of flight mode?

Samsung make a right pigs ear of customising Android though, it might be something to do with Samsungs implementation of WiFi Direct.

I'll try and replicate on mine at the weekend on a couple of HTC's, one on Lollipop and one on something older, can't remember what without looking other than 4.xxxxx

I have 3 Moto E G2's I could try as well if the HTC does the same as you are getting.

To be honest I'm not sure how it behaves but I will try it.

Do you connect & disconnect everytime you get in & out of the car?

I assumed it would self connect when WIFI in range then disconnect when not. Im guessing that I would be in car (connected), then get out of car (disconnected). But for some reason the App decides to try reconnect (even though Smartgate unit is out of range and in Flight Mode).

Meanwhile I can confirm that Smartgate is only taking the fuel consumption into account.

The gas consumption is completely disregarded.

Therefor the Smartgate numbers and indications (Skoda Drive and MFA Pro) are totally useless for G-Tec owners.

It does NOT turn on my WIFI

Steps

Tap "Disconnect from Smartgate"

Status button shows "Connect to Smartgate" (i.e state Disconnected"

Put phone in flight mode

Status button continues to show "Connect to Smartgate" (i.e state Disconnected".

Andyvee,

I have been able to replicate the issue using x2 devices (S4 & S6), see behaviour using screen capturing software. Captured steps show the behaviour of BOTH connection settings.

I'm able to consistently replicate the Smartgate issue of turning WIFI on when in flight mode on two Android devices using Smartgate App 1.1.25

- Samsung Galaxy S4 v5.0.1

- Samsung Galaxy S6 v5.1.1

Video of issue, along with the steps below can help clarify the issue. I've shown the 2 connectivity options, but the issue is with Option 2.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_fLW3swTqFTMk5MYnM1Q3F4QTA/view

Steps to reproduce:

Option 1- WIFI Client

Open Smartgate

Set Connection type: Setting - type of connection - WIFI Client

Kill app

Reopen App with new connection type

Note the Green connection status button swapping from "Connect to Smartgate" (i.e state Disconnected") to "Disconnect from Smartgate" (i.e. state connected). The app is doing that.

Put phone in flight mode

Note the Green connection status button stays on "Connect to Smartgate" (i.e state Disconnected")

Option 2 - WIFI Client Direct

Open Smartgate

Set Connection type: Setting - type of connection - WIFI Client Direct

Kill app

Reopen App with new connection type

Note the Green connection status button stays on "Disconnect from Smartgate" (i.e. state connected).

Put phone in flight mode

Note this time the Green connection status button stays on "Disconnect from Smartgate" (i.e. state connected).

Watch how the devices WIFI gets turned on even with the device set to Flight mode, and as a result of no Smartgate unit switched on it connects to my house WIFI.

Seems to do the same on my HTC as well, if I use WiFi Direct it turns the WiFi back on. Seems you have to manually disconnect to stop it controlling the WiFi.

Thanks for checking. IMHO it's not a very good experience for the app, overriding a phones flight mode request.

My delaer is going to feed it back to Skoda so hopefully they can get it fixed for the next version of the app.
