My gearbox has broken :/

 

I am comparing prices for refurbished gearboxes and used gearboxes.

 

If I want a refurbished gearbox then they want to have my old gearbox back (for refurbishment again)

 

Therefore my question is: What would the scrap value of my old gearbox be? How would I find this out?

 

Once I know this, I can find out which of the options would be more economically favourable.

About a quid, the price of mixed scrap has crashed because it follows global steel prices.

Or remove your own gearbox and get it refurbished and refit.

I believe the casing is magnesium alloy, if that helps in any way.

I doubt it's worth very much as scrap, but might be entertaining to try to set fire to...

Or alternatively you could try source a second hand box, depending on the price of the rebuild, this may be a more economically viable option.
