R.I.P Richard Burns

Featured Replies

Felt this deserved to be in the Motorway as he was a car lover.

I knew he was ill with a brain tumour which forced him out of WRC a couple of years ago, but now sadly he has passed away. :( :(

Another character in the sporting world taken from us. :thumbdwn:

RIP Burnsy

Any links? Google and BBC news/WRC news didn't show up anything!

I know - my sources are faster than sky or google. :)

I think its a thread on www.britishrally.com and I found that through a thread on SCN at the moment

A sad loss. Can't see anything on Google News yet either.

Steve

If this is right its very sad, a TRUE competitor has left the building today. Was a nice guy. Will be sadly missed :(

Can't see anything on Google News yet either.

Or on his official website!

a crying shame,my thoughts are with richards family.

- the real tragedy of the day :shakehead

he could have given rallying so much more but was denied the chance - life can be so unfair - one person abuses their body to insane amounts and survives for many years yet Richard lives a far cleaner lifestyle and this happens .

This is very sad news.

I saw him driving about 2 months ago at castle coombe, they had all the cars hes ever raced going around the track with himself and one of the Mcrae brothers in a pickup. The crowd gave him a very good reception and he looked very well, and later im sure i saw him driving around the track.

He will be missed. RIP.

I can't believe it. Poor fella, he's been suffering for a long time with that. There hasn't much been said about his condition so I assumed he was on the mend.

RIP Burnsy

Absolutely. What he said . Godspeed Richard, and dont go teararsing around upsetting the Angels . R.I.P.

As all have said above,a great loss of such a great talent taken before he could show us all even more of his skills and potential.

R.I.P.

Strange that hasnt been on the news  - RIP indeed.

Sad news indeed :(

It is reported on the Times web site, and now the BBC but there is nothing on his official site.

It is a sad loss to motorsport

but i fear that the death of a Brirish world champion is not news worthy enough when a sad alcoholic, womanising footballer, who squandered a second chance at life is in the news.

R.I.P Richard.

I so wish it had been a rumour but now its appeared on the bbc site as well - why?

why do the good guys get taken like that ?

****** to not being contraversial

- best has had so much coverage and public grief yet he effectively drank hisself to death in the full knowledge of what he was doing , not only that he had a second chance with the transplant and still kept boozing - what a wonderful rolemodel he was - for some reason that totally escapes me kids look up to footballers .... great  The amount of money and time that could have saved deserving cases really winds me up and with all that when the good guy goes they can hardly be bothered to move the reports of the pi55head to report on Richard

bring on the flaming - I'm not bothered - feel just a little better for saying that and I meant every word!:(

RIP. Such a talent and only 34.

RIP Richard. Such a waste, he could have carried on to greater things.

And i wholeheartedly agree with Scrutineer, why have we had minute by minute coverage of his condition for the last week??? What kind of a role model was he!

As i sit here bbc news this morning has been a Best memorial programme. At least the sports presenter had been following rallying and was shocked at the news.

Just seen it briefly on Sky news pity they are more interested in that waster George Best or Brian Lara beating his record.

Such a sad loss at a young age.

Now reported on richard`s official website with a memorial page for mesages of condolence.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.....

A real shame

Its sad to think think that he didn't get more coverage in the media (I'm not saying they had to be on the door set of the hospital) but you can always see the type of attitude eg Sky News had towards him & other rally drivers. Anytime I seen him mentioned, even when he was still rallying for Peugeot, the photos shown of him were in Subaru overalls (before he even shaved his head).

I always wondered was it because Sky Sports don't have the coverage  .

He was a great talent and will sorely be missed, he won a World Championship and it would be a great shame if the English media don't honour his achievements.
