Featured Replies

By next week maybe the dealer will just have to utter the magic words and wave the wand and it will be fixed with a puff of smoke - well maybe not smoke!

aaaeeee, that is too easy, they must to touch it and whisper magic words.

If people were really smart they'd ban big cities. They're the cause of all these problems.

Tony R,

If you are interested and can be bothered to use your VIN, maybe check if your Skoda has any other outstanding Service Campaign Actions

which now seem to be call Recall Actions by Skoda.

http://master.skoda-auto.com/mini-apps/recall-actions

Then there are proper official Recalls, Safety matters.

http://gov.uk/check-if-a-vehicle-has-been-recalled

As  I said on the thread that has gone on the  Missing list,  I did some time ago feed in my VIN and  received  the answer  my Superb is not affected. As I did not believe that answer, I subsequently contacted  SKODA UK with the  link someone on that thread supplied and received the response that my car IS affected, and which was followed up with a letter of that confirmation from Skoda.  Thanks for your interest.

I know i keep saying this about Translation & Lost in Translation.

But much is lost from German to English and even technical terms spoken in English & American English

and reported by Journalists.

Key words,, used to cause confusion on purpose,

Injectors, Air Filter, Grill, Catalyst, Software etc.

The thing is the General Public, Journalists, Owners and Politicians, are not really knowing what is

to do with the US fix and AD-Blue, and also the EU & RoW Fixes,  Ad-Blue Vehicles and TDI without but still

with the 'Defeat Device'.,

and the various components that may or not need replacing, or that can not be replaced / substituded,

Catalysts, Catalytic Converters, DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) Probes, Sensors, Fuel Injectors or Urea Injectors, EGR Valves / Systems, Canisters, Charcoal Filters etc.

Anyone see the BBC Panorama programme last night?  They showed the cheating in action - quite interesting.

They also tested a Zafira with similarly interesting results.  In my opinion all manufacturers are probably up to to it, unless they have magic diesel engines that work differently to VW ones...

What really surprised me that although it was evident that the Opel badged version of the Zafira didn't have any "defeat" software it didn't come anywhere near meeting the emission requirement for its engine even though the tests were conducted to exactly the standards laid down, so GM don't cheat the system they just lie about the emissions of their engines and comment well the tests weren't carried out properly??!

We haven't got to the bottom of this yet and I bet the other manufacturers are all really squirming in their board rooms as we speak!

Wonder if the Russian anti-doping agency will be offering to do testing for automotive manufacturers now that they're not allow to test people any more.

Passes guaranteed for the right price Tovarish!

just thinking ahead, has anyone considered a V3.0 for this thread... you never know

I received the 'your affected' letter last week.  Feels like winning the worlds worst raffle.

'Tax Evasion Investigations'.

Never rain but it pours.

(& we know how poor VW Group vehicles door seals are on the Budget & Premium Models.)

I bet that the Volkswagen Group and all the Board, Shareholding Corporations and Investors from various countries and tax regimes like having to open their books, and show just how the VWG Imports and Exports and deals around the world.

Financial Pyramid Banking and Borrowing exposed possibly.

'Tax Evasion Investigations'.

Financial Pyramid Banking and Borrowing exposed possibly.

Isn't this just more random speculation on your part?

It might well be.

But it has basis in the 'it will all come out in the wash eventually' so we will see come time.

Who would ever have believed that the 2nd Biggest Car Manufacturer in the World would

have cheated and lied or been blind to employees cheating on their behalf for so many years.

Is speculation from Media Article reading so unusual?

On the BBC news now VAG under investigation for tax evasion in germany

See post #27

At least people have stopped posting a copy of their letter - you know, the one we've all had and all that's different is the name and address.

Or so I thought.

Looks like Vauxhall need their own special Zafira scrappage scheme!

Looks like Vauxhall need their own special Zafira scrappage scheme!

They catch fire and scrap themselves now - problem sorted by self engineering :giggle:

They have one already, they self combust according to the news I've seen!

Interesting that the BBC couldn't find a lab in the UK to do the testing so had to go the Czech Republic

I wonder why that was?

It might actually say something about the BBC and the Panorama Producers that might not be able to find lots of things

unless they are very expensive and involve some TV Licence payers money and some overseas expenses and the likes.

Or, just maybe, that there aren't any labs in the UK that are set up to do emissions testing in accordance with the Euro standards that wanted to be involved.

Its famous for being the No1 beer drinking country in Europe. Budweiser and Pilsner originated there.

Cant image that would influence the BBC crew though!

Did everyone see the BBC panorama documentary on this?

As above -  post #27

Interesting article in The Car Connection re, will Europe get shafted (compared to the U.S.)

Re the Panorama programme...

So the emissions test, set by the 'EU regulators' involves a cold, temperature stable car/test cell and set driving parameters. The Passat passed the test.

Then the Passat was driven outside the standard test procedure (hot engine, higher speeds etc) and it produced higher emissions. But that proves nothing.

It doesn't prove there was any active 'cheat device' during the test - the only way you could possibly prove that would be to record the emissions during an open road test performed at the same engine/road speeds and engine/ambient temperatures as required when on test in the test cell.

There are no requirements to pass the set emission levels at differing engine/road speeds or temperatures than that specified for the test.

The manufacturers ensure their vehicles pass the test procedure, not really that surprising. I've heard tales of motor cycles designed with a flat spot at the rpm that noise limits are measured at.

It would have been much more enlightening if three or more manufacturer's products were tested (as per the official test) rather than just a Euro 5 Passat and Euro 6 non-flammable Zafira.

Perhaps I missed the bit where VAG have been proven to fail Euro 5/Euro 6 emission tests and/or that the 'cheat device' was definitely in operation in Europe to meet the Euro regulations - I lost the will to live in the original thread after wading through the first few dozen pages.

Final thought is with all those that claim (like on Panorama) that emissions played a part in their choice of car purchase. Really? Fuel consumption may have swayed a decision (within the constraints of everyone knowing that the 'official' consumption figures are rarely achievable) but emissions....?

I think you might have done just that.

I could've sworn I saw/heard VW admit to the Panorama peeps that their car was sensing that it was in a European test and behaving 'better' for the duration thereof?
