VW Emissions Scandal Thread V2

Featured Replies

Re  "   Transport for London calculated the £2.5m figure from the number of owners of affected VW vehicles claiming a discount for which they were not entitled. "   What is this discount ( to which we are not entitled )  I am not aware of the alleged discount, plus it would appear  other manufacturers' diesels   are  also emitting more fumes than admitted. And no reference is made  to Superbs in the Skodas referred to.

There is a discount / exemption if a vehicle emits less then 75g/km Co2, so I doubt if anything in the VAG group qualified for this so the owners would have paid the full £11.50 per day.

If people were really smart they'd ban big cities. They're the cause of all these problems.

So Khan wants £2.5 million from V A G for a discount owners never got, not  much hope I would say. Not  very well  thought through, does him no good.

The Volkswagen Group must think that The Donald is the best thing to happen for them.

They will be expecting him to drop emissions restrictions in the first 100 days of being in the hot seat.

They will be launching their Light Truck Q7 that will have the Rolling Coal device (Defeat Device inactivated) and they might even name it the TRUMP because it blows smoke out its Ar53.

Then with his German Heritage they will be expecting to have no Trade Barriers as long as the have the Factories building in the US, and only limited numbers

brought in from Central & Eastern Europe & Mexico.

Nah!

Trump's in the process of changing all his rediculous positions and blubbering over how the media aren't being nice to him eg a picture of his double chin and failing to fall into line with his beliefs.

He's a media freak and he's THEIRS.

What an embarrassment.

More on German collusion with the setting of European emissions standards .

I always thought that way back when inline sixes were the BMW Mercedes norm, that is was ever so convenient that the crash standard adopted was for only 40% offset, which just happened to avoid the crankshaft.............that was convenient

Seems the automotive industry and legislators have an understanding of what's best for both rather than the public at large

About time

Interesting that Volkswagen Group are to use English as their language of choice ?

http://bbc.co.uk/news/business-38247779

They are very selective.

eg

The VW CEO & ex Head of Porsche is an excellent English Speaker when he chooses to.  Odd when questioned in English he does not answer in English.

Selective hearing and understanding of Technical Details quite often.  No Hear, See or Say any Evil.

So reports of investigations into Euro 6 Audi A3 2.0 TDI Emissions Testing.

It hardly matters which language the VW Group deny any wrong doing but they will need to say something officially.

Now the government have come round to the idea with a bit of help from the EU commission we can start taking this topic seriously.

It's interesting that the all powerful EU has taken no action against VW for breaking their rules, but is taking action against EU countries that they feel have not taken enough action against VW.

To me the question remains; would the affected cars have passed euro5 without the cheat software?.

It's surely time to put pressure on the responsible ones who signed off on the completely unrealistic test procedure which resulted in a mockery of clean air intentions.

It seems like the weak kneed bureaucrats accomodated industry lobbyists.

In the UK the public might expect the Motoring Press and media to stand up for them against big corporation,

Media like Autocar, What Car, PistonHeads etc.

But then the readers and others should be aware of who owns them and any close relationship or even partnership or financial interest in the likes of the VW Group.

Or the Owners & Founder of the groups Political Affiliations & Business Interest and past Political Appointments.

Transport, Industry etc. Involvement in the way of being a middle man in one large foriegn Corportation like VW taking over a British Iconic Company like Bentley as an example.

You would not want conflicts of interest or any suspicion of any even & you would tell reader what Partrnerships & Financial Income comes from

any big Corportation surely.

The commercial media are compromised in how hard they go, as usual.

It's left to the lawyers

The Koreans should be careful how they go forward with this.  If they **** off the EU and the US ie Nissan-Renault, VAG, GM,  they could find a similar non-tariff trade war starting.

The US already fined Hyundai-Kia something like $100M for stating unachievable fuel consumption/CO2 figures and this looks like a get back at other car firms trying to importing in to Korea.

A tit for tat war could be costly but especially for countries that rely so heavily on car exports and then it could spread to other imports/exports with countervailing duties via WTO sanctions.

Interesting times ahead, perhaps a period of poker style international trade wars especially with Trump entering the arena in 19 days time with promises to do stuff in his first 100 days!

AFAIK South Korea has massive tax penalties for those who buy an imported car

Free trade is a one way street for some countries
